News Red Dead Redemption coming to Switch and PS4 on August 17, physical version on October 13

So, I'm a bit confused at this game. It seems very, very boring. Maybe I have gotten accustomed to some sort of guidance, but there seems to be no direction on what to do and where to go? "Am I stupid?"
That's weird, it's GTA4 but Western, so therefore it works exactly like GTA : wherever you have to go next is always clearly shown on the map (the letters on the map), and during missions it also precisely shows you where to go and what to do. It's not a game in which you can be lost or not knowing what to do, it's always indicated. Just follow the white letters. (B for missions given by Bonnie, W for missions given by West Dickens, etc...)
Do all current available missions to unlock the next batch of missions until the end of the game.

As for it being boring... It might be a 2010 game (so it's somehow already showing its age in game design), but it's the exact same mission design formula that GTA4 released in 2008 had, with just a few more complex gameplay components and interactivities. So, if you weren't there when it released, yeah I can see how you could find it a bit boring now, it has aged a bit. (Not to mention that imo, the first third of the game isn't too exciting. Only the missions for the marshall are really fun in the first third of the game, and Bonnie while not giving you fun missions is at least a good character)

Story gets better and goes more into the tropes of western spaghetti in the second third. (More epic, more mysterious and almost mystical, more morally ambiguous). It's no RDR2 (which is a really long, strong, complex and well developed story), but RDR's story isn't half bad in comparison to what Rockstar used to do prior to GTA4.

Therein lies my problem then--I never played a GTA game. I knew the letters represented their names but just assumed those were sidequests that I could hit up at any point, not actual mandatory things to do. I thought when missions were happening, it was pretty fun. But now I'm sitting around like, "why did Bonnie show me how to ride a horse and then just go home". Appreciate the insight. Crazy how missing a GTA would make me completely clueless in regards to their game structure. It's like if I just never played Zelda, I just wouldn't know how the puzzles worked. I feel so dumb haha.

It's recommended you do the Bonnie missions first to get you acquainted with certain aspects. (You'll eventually get the lasso.) From there, any letter on your map will either be a main or side quest. You'll realize that more stuff opens up the further you progress through the main story. (This isn't like most modern open world games where suddenly all side quests are available from the getgo. Usually there's going to be a mission which teaches you a mechanic that will become vital in the quest.)

Also just noticed right now that the Switch icon for the game recently changed to now display a proper title!

Overall I enjoyed the game but I had no choice but to quit, as I got stuck in what is (to the best of my knowledge and Google searches) an obligatory horse cart race that I kept failing no matter how much I tried. It's that cart race which West Dickens brought me to (I think it's called Liars and Cheats) - I either eventually fell off the trail and crashed or if I tried to be a tad more careful I lost my first place. Again and again and again and again. :-(

Controlling speed is one of the trickier parts of the game.
One of the few things I've learned is that not only do you have to tap repeatedly but also hold the B button to maintain speed on horseback or wagon. Another thing, in particular, is that it's easy to maintain a very good lead so long as you can stick to the road and just keep accelerating. When you have about halfway stamina, I'd say decrease the rhythms of your taps, or do short three-tap-bursts followed by holding the button.

Beat this during the weekend

I can understand why it was so highly thought of at the time of release, but there's definitely some stuff that hasnt aged all that well. But overall it was still enjoyable, and I think I might just play the sequel in the future.

  • Story was interesting, and it made me want to learn more about the backstory.
  • soundtrack stellar

  • My main PS360 generation gripe, the color palette or lack there of. Sometimes it's just hard to see because there's like 4 different colors in total.
  • Lack of variety in missions.. story missions was basically kill these evil men and kill these evil men while doing an escort mission

The 2 looks better ofcourse, but often i did see a compare between zelda botw open world vs RDR2.
While RDR2 has a open world, it feels like go from point A to point B and so some missions. From Point B to Point C, do some missions.
I'm not sure if the whole game is like that, i need to reply it on my steamdeck again. But it felt not immersive because of that (the first part)

I have purchased the retail version of this game. It’s new and not a second hand but I can’t get the golden points. I’m in Italy and the game is Italian version. It says that the points are not available at the moment. Any one experienced my situation?

It happened to me too, it took about a week to finally be able to redeem the golden points.
