StarTopic Final Fantasy VII Rebirth |ST| "Don't fight here... you'll ruin the yellow paint!"

I adored Remake’s ending. Sounds like I have nothing to worry about! haha

I haven’t posted here yet but I’ve sunk 100+ hours into this game over the past three weeks. Finished the main story a week ago.

I cannot believe Square pulled this off. The combat, the characters, the cutscenes, the sense of scale and adventure, the mini games, the MUSIC, the silliness. It’s just the complete package. What an incredible game.

I even like the ending the more I sit on it. I’m definitely more eager and excited for Part 3 now than I was for Part 2 at the end of Remake.
I still loved the game, and I'm still really excited for Part 3!

Edit: I don't even dislike the ending. I just don't think it was executed well in certain parts.

Ive got a lot to say about it.

My initial reaction was disappointment and confusion. Although these games are essentially brand new mainline FFs, part of their job is remaking those iconic FF7 moments. And they definitely messed up the death scene itself in that moment.

HOWEVER, if they’re doing what I think they are and Cloud is repressing Aerith’s death and has become the ultimate unreliable narrator, which will then add to the Lifestream sequence in Part 3 when he finally remembers and accepts it (and we get the burial scene), I think that’s an amazing way to respect the themes of the original game. Like, seriously. It’s the perfect way to meaningfully expand on the original’s themes and plot points while still keeping older fans surprised. I can see the Lifestream sequence being absolutely devastating as Cloud finally accepts Zack’s death AND Aerith - all while a much more fleshed out Tifa is there with him.

Rebirth’s big diversion with the actual Forgotten Capital scene itself will all be worth it if they nail that payoff, imo. It’ll single handed oh justify the story changes of this trilogy.

I hope this is the case. They've done so much else right that I'll definitely give them the benefit of the doubt until the final part releases.

To throw my own opinion in the ring, (spoilering just in case, but there are no details in here) I was willing to take Remake's ending provided it went in a cool direction, whereas Rebirth's kinda ruined any goodwill I felt moving forward for the New Stuff. I'm still gonna play Refinale, but unless it pulls off a miracle, I'm just fully checked out of Nomura's added nonsense

This sounds way more harsh than I mean it to be

It’s nicer than me. I could’ve been more harsh. But i had low expectations narrative wise and as the game went on. I just went for the ride. Slowly paced ride.

Chapter 13 sucked (personally)

I actually quite liked Ch 13. I thought it was a cool penultimate thing.

Chapter 13 was a great final dungeon, only let down by
the Temple of the Ancients theme being kinda underwhelming

Just got to Cosmo Canyon, this is my favourite part of FFVII so i'm super excited to see how they have adapted it.

First impression of the area is mindblowing, holy shit!!
Looking at the detail and density of these towns, it’s crazy to think that this was the same company that was saying making these sorts of locations was too demanding on hd systems back in 2008 or so.

What really amazes me is that you can go right from these towns to a huge open area seamlessly. Its just such a far cry from the hallways of ff7 remake

Mister, this is a Nojima joint. Nomura is actually more of a purist in the current situation heh.

My biggest problem with the game is that Chadley never shuts up, lol
I generally don't mind him but the passive-aggressive 'ahem I notice that world intel has stalled' comments make me wish there was an option to tell him to shut up.

I really like this game. It feels like an improved version of xenoblade gameplay, but most people seems to not connect the dots. Maybe people should really try the xenoblade chronicles trilogy.

Anyway, what this game does better are the interruptions with minigames. They take away the monotony of always fighting and looking for beautiful vistas.

However, I feel more satisfied with the open world of xeno3 for some reason. Maybe because the transverse of the world map plays more friendly. Sometimes the gameplay is affected by too much animations.

Man, the banter of the main team is so funny. It feels like a good anime/persona all the time. They really nailed it.

However, the big fight scenes are mind blowing. Just started chapter 7 and I’m finally approaching golden saucer. I wanna see how big the theme park is.

So far so good. I finished ff remake a week ago and I rated that 10/10. This one is 9.5/10.

The corridor gameplay of remake was annoying at first, but after church, the game goes up and up and it feels awesome.

Anyway, I have almost 100h of ff7 (remake + rebirth) and I’m loving every second. Maybe I’ll finally give a chance to crises core after rebirth.

I beat a certain part in chapter 9... below is the whirlwind of emotions I went through

Cloud knocks Tifa into that huge mako pool

Huh? Tf? Did that happen in the original FF7? (haven't played it in a long time so I might not remember)

WHAT? SHE'S ABOUT TO DIE? SQUARE, DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE

Okay Sephiroth is here now I guess. So are a bunch of whispers.

Did Sephiroth... save her?

Yay Tifa came back, happy ending

Can someone remind me if that sequence happened in the original FF7? It's very possible that I just don't remember. I'm scared to look up anything online and accidentally find spoilers for the end of Rebirth.

Anyways, that was stressful. Since I'm now approaching chapter 10 and the last stretch of the game, I'm guessing things are going to get even more wild.

That sequence is new for Rebirth, although it has elements of a later sequence in the game.

They have similarities, but to me the battle system of Remake and Rebirth are leagues better than any Xeno game.

Okay, I'm at chapter 10, and I'm starting to consider just plowing ahead with main quests and queens blood only.

I really love this game, but a lot of the mini games are starting to irritate me.

I played for the first time entirely OG + Remake last month. I'm like one boss removed from the end of Intergrade rn. If Xenoblade was as fun to play as Remake I probably would've tried to clear it heh. There's something about Xenoblade 1 at least where the battle system IS confusing and the characters don't move/act smoothly in battle. In comparison Remake is like popping the heck off in that regard and I'm hearing Rebirth is even better.

i changed which drive the game is installed on. still crashes. thought it was due to maybe overheating so i moved my ps5 out of my tv stand onto the top. still crashing. i followed the steps from the square enix help page. still crashes. i’m in the temple of the ancients too and i just want to finish the game now and i cant. i give up :(

Possible bug in the game I’ve encountered. Pertains to Golden Saucer. Will spoiler tag:

I'm current doing the Ultra Party Animal Challenges. The one I'm doing is the G-Bike Challenge and I need to beat his score of 32,000 on Expert. Well I've done it twice already. First with a score of 32,650 and then again with around 34,000 something. But it's not accepting that he has lost and wants me to keep playing. Is there something special I'm supposed do in the challenge it's not telling me?

Has anyone else encountered this? Or has it worked fine for you?

It seems to be a fairly wide spread issue since the patch was issued. It happened to me so I gave up.

Not the battle system. It’s the overworld exploration. The battle system are completely different. However, the battle system of xeno3 is as good as in FF7. They are different but amazing with hard bosses.

Dang. Thanks! I hope it gets patched before I finish the game. I’m at 83% right now with 105 1/2 hours played. I’ve been super committed to trying to do almost everything, so it’s going to be highly disappointing if I miss out on completing this side quest. Oh well. Also not going to sit around and wait for patch. Could take weeks or more.

Xenoblade as a whole just has a real problem with uninteresting combat compared to basically to all of it's JRPG peers tbh!

Really hope Monolith ditches the auto-attack with skill cooldowns combat for something more engaging in their next project

Eh, I'd personally put 2 and X's combat systems over Remake/Rebirth tbh. Probably just personal taste though since I imagine very few people would agree with me

I've also probably just thoroughly burned myself out on Remake/Rebirth combat by playing both games pretty close to each other. It's still great don't get me wrong but the repetition really starts to set in

Offline MMORPG combat is a very different flavor than FF7R’s. While I do want the next Xenoblade to have more action elements (the Martial Artist dodge moves were such a tease in Xenoblade 3), I’m glad both series have their own identity.

Chapter 11...

To avoid rage quitting, I rage reduced the difficulty to easy on the Yin Yang fight. It became pathetically easy, but my god that was a terribly designed fight. That thing does too much damage and Cait's ATB doesn't fill quickly enough to do anything. And who thought a solo section with Cait Sith was a good idea at all? Those god damn boxes... jeez

Normally I wouldn't put up with this type of nonsense in a game, but Rebirth does so many other things right. It's just frustrating when things like this screw up what I would otherwise call a 10/10 game.

Yeah, not ashamed to say i turned it to easy for one of the fights too. I’m too old to care about my video game clout anymore lol. From like 2011-2016, I went through this phase where I had to play everything on hard mode. Then I realized it was actually ruining some games for me, and I was like “who the hell am I trying to impress?”

Alright, I'm in chapter 12, I've finished all the Queen's Blood matches, and I've gotten an A rank in all the available piano songs. Those were the two things I wanted to wrap up most, so I think it's full steam ahead with the main story from here on out.

I've been able to make so much progress due to having some time off this week, but as I binged the game more and more, I started to get frustrated more easily, mainly with the very slow pace of some dungeons and side quests. I feel like I was enjoying myself more when I was playing a few times per week and gradually moving through things. It was kind of like having a new TV episode every week.

On the other hand, that pace would have kept me playing this game for probably 2-3 months, and I don't really like playing one game for that long. I'm already approaching one month with this game, and that's on the upper end of how much time I spend with these things.

I will probably finish with somewhere between 60-70 hours (unless the finale is insanely long) with roughly 80% of side quests completed. It's been a great ride, but I think I'm ready for the end. Or maybe I'm not? I've heard there are mixed reactions to the ending, so I'll report back as soon as I've finished it. Whatever happens, I'm glad this project exists and that Square put so much effort into it. These things don't happen very often!

About 70hrs in now, and things are starting to come full circle arriving in the latest region... (Ch11)

i figured out a way to play without crashing and that is to stream the game and it’s actually really good, zero input lag and the game still looks stunning.

Not done yet. More info below. Suffice it to say, until now, I have never played a game that's equally amazing as it is rage-inducing.

I just spent at least 30 minutes fighting Sephiroth with Cloud and Aerith, and I got him down to probably single digit HP. Then out of nowhere, both Cloud and Aerith were trapped, he used Octoslash, killed both of them, and the camera zoomed in on him smirking. Then a game over screen.

I have to do this whole thing again? Who thought that kind of mechanic was a good idea? And if I wanted to go back and change the difficulty, I would have to go back ALL THE WAY TO THE BEGINNING of the final boss sequence. This is so disrespectful to players time.

Edit: oh, and when I click "retry from this battle" I can't even skip the cutscene leading into it. Good job, square.

Edit 2: I can't take it anymore. I'm going all the way back and switching to easy. This fight isn't even hard, it's just cheap. You can do everything right and still get screwed over.

Managed to get platinum today, so its my time to take a break from the game for a while, it has been one of the most amazing gaming experiences I've had in a while!

The retry screen is unnecessarily confusing. I died in the same place as you and had to start the fight over. Didn't realize until later that I should have clicked "Retry from Current Battle." If you do that, it should take you to the beginning of that phase, rather than the beginning of the whole fight.

52h. Aproaching Cosmo Canyon. Am I going too slow? I really really like this game. I can’t really point to anything bad. My only complain is that I kinda miss a little of more straight forward areas like FF7 remake.

The Whole desert area feels like side content. I like what I played but it feels unnecessary. Barret story could be more meaningful if you had a back story with Dane and smaller desert area.

I finally finished the game and was able to cool down a bit after some of the issues I was having. Despite some complaints, Rebirth's high points make the whole experience worth it. I'll be there for sure whenever part 3 comes out.

Just finished the game. 118 hours 35 minutes later, and I am so damn happy and satisfied with what I played. Rebirth was a great example of why I play video games. An epic and unforgettable journey that’ll be thinking about for quite some time.

Ugh, even though I was getting kind of burnt out on Rebirth before I beat it, I'm having a hard time moving on from this world and it's characters. I'm even thinking about booting up Remake for the first time in 4 years. I could also clean up some sidequests in Rebirth, since I got a bit lazy with those after chapter 9 or 10.
I can’t get over that bar rude goes into. that scene is absolute gold.
I was sort of hoping you could get a bald cap for everyone and join that bar. Oh well.

You could always replay the OG, too!

True! When I first played FF7, I was kind of new to final fantasy in general and had trouble with the combat in some places. It would be fun to go on a revenge tour with some busted character builds.

FINALLY managed to finish chapter 13 and for the last half hour or so my mouth was wide open the whole time. also i don’t think i’ve ever been teary at a video game before but they got me good at one point

My god, the side content drop in chapter 12 is brutal lol

The finish line is right there, but i feel bad leaving all this stuff unresolved...

Just hit Chapter 11. Starting to get burned out on all the sidecontent so I'm stopping going for max ranks and stuff. It's kinda exhausting and I'm no completionist.

Anyone have a tip for beating this stupid Odin fight in the combat simulator? I can't stop that stupid one hit kill.
You have to make sure you are avoiding getting hit as much as possible. The gimmick with the fight is if you get hit too much he’ll end you with the one hit kill. Better to just get safe pokes in at times until you can stagger him.

Equip everyone with Revival Earrings. That’ll at least give you one free death. Also use synergy abilities as often as possible. Best party imo was Cloud, Aerith, Tifa.
