Alright, I've beaten the main story of Pokemon XD and have captured every Shadow pokemon except the very last one-Dragonite. I'm actually having a good deal of fun with this game. I miss this kind of old school challenge from the Pokemon RPGS.

Also, I love the new raffle. I'll join as soon as you fix the entry process!

Fighting the Deep King in Colosseum now, then it's just Togetic and some purification and I'll be done.

I love this game, I had a great time all over again despite playing through it a month ago.

Raffle problem should be fixed
Oh, very nice! However, while I've earned a badge, it's showing that I don't meet the entry criteria. Am I overlooking something?

Same for me.

We’re looking into it!

Same issue here. But its such a great idea you guys rock!

OK, there was a problem with automating the process at least retroactively but everyone who already earned a badge should have been manually added now. Let us know if there are further problems either here or by hitting me up via DM.

Works flawless now thank you so much :)

I'm playing Path of Radiance for the first time, but I don't think there's any chance I'll beat it by the end of the challenge. I've had to restart the ninth level three times already. Last night I got up to the boss of that map and he murked one of my spell casters because I forgot that he had a javelin. My Fire Emblem skills are rusty.

Well i at least need to hook mine up for a blitz run. Star Fox Assualt is one of the easier options I have. Battalion wars would be too long. And I will attempt one or two of the challenges

Completed and finished Purifying all Pokemon in Colosseum.

Images are spoilered because I took a bunch of pictures lol.

First some poorly lit images of me fighting Evice:

I went with Rui for my partner's name since that's the canon one.

Now the fully purified save file:

Probably about ~6 hours of that playtime was "idle time" doing the walking glitch to speed some purifications up. I also did Mt. Battle for the Time Flute.

And finally, here they all are safely traded to LeafGreen:

I love these two games, definitely recommend that people who are curious or interested in a harder, less traditional Pokemon game check them out.

Edit: Oops, I forgot my bonus pic:

70 Shines into Sunshine. Sirena Beach went surprisingly smoothly. The third mission was confusing, and spraying the mural in the casino is way too precise, but the rest was way better than my first playthrough.

I've been putting off Pianta Village. I probably should do that soon, that and finish Noki Bay. In my first playthrough I had an easy time with the eel. Hope my luck sticks around!

Working perfectly now, cheers

Back to the challenge, here's Metroid Prime completed at 100%, for Commemorative Cube and Prime Hunter:

I think that leaves me next with polishing off the coins - and perhaps 100% for good measure - in Super Mario Sunshine...

Not sure I’ll be able to finish the blue coin challenge after all (getting pretty frustrated with some of these) but I might come back to it. I however definitely have won a GC game for the commemorative cube, @Dopply :D

You're telling me to have a chance at getting a GC controller, I need to 100% Mario Sunshine, again, after enduring the pain and suffering of accomplishing that feat last year? Fine.

You can just beat any Gamecube game to get the Commemorative Cube badge if you want to enter the giveaway.

I'll be rocking this Miror B. badge forever

Btw @Dopply I believe I also qualify for the Commemorative Cube badge, unless that needs to be a separate game.

Also if I go and do it on XD now do I get to display the badge twice lmao?

You only get the badge for Colosseum OR XD.

You do indeed get the Commemorative Cube, but I didn't know you had 'beaten' the game. I need you all to tell me these things, haha.

Planning to hook up my gamecube tonight for tomorrow. Will give monkey ball 2 a go then probably blitz something else

For Commemorative Cube, I replayed one of the GOATs. DK Jungle Beat is still one of the most fun games I've ever played, and it still holds up in my opinion. Just love the creativity and how fun the combo system is. I always found the bosses to be a highlight. I really found them all very stylish and enjoyable, and I like the physicality of pounding on the bongos to beat them up lol

I don't know whether I'll try for any more of the challenges, but I may. Either way, I had fun replaying some of my old favorites. I have a lot of great memories that came from playing Gamecube games either by myself or with friends. A couple things that suck are that my system doesn't read discs on the first go most of the time now, and I seem to have misplaced my copy of Super Monkey Ball 2 somewhere (which I'm sure I'll find someday). Not a huge deal, ultimately. I don't have as much free time as I used to, so I rarely go back to old systems to replay games, so it was nice to have the "excuse" to do so with these badges. Hope to see more events like this in the future.

So Noki Bay has been cleared out. Noki Bay's a fun one with a lot of vertical platforming. The underwater missions are awkward but are far from impossible. Some nasty Blue Coin placements though - I am again thankful for the Blue Coin tracker I got.

Took the time to fully clear out Delfino Plaza and the prior levels too. So far, Gelato Beach is the worst overall level in the game. The Sandbird, the watermelon mission, an annoying 100 coin shine, and some of the least interesting platforming of the main levels. Great song though. I really do like Pinna Park and Noki Bay, though each has at least one annoying mission. Sunshine does a good job at having well themed and memorable levels, its a shame not all the missions themselves are fun. The infamous lily pad mission ended up going alright after a few attempts too, but I still don't like the structure of getting to the mission and how easily you can die or get yourself kicked back to the hub.

Two challenges stand in my way now - Pianta Village (and that horrid Chuckster Mission) and Corona Mountain (and that terrible boat). Victory is so close...

I’ve discovered all the challenges are beyond my time or skill willingness so I’m just doing a blitz run today for the participation badge. Now whether to do Star Fox Assualt, Wario World or Monkey ball 2

You guys should add an achievement for replacing your GameCube clock battery, which I just did lol. I had been putting it off for so long. Finally just buckled down and did it. It was a pretty easy fix. Still absolutely petrified to pull out ribbon cables but it went smoothly! Here’s to another 20 years of proper time keeping from the purple lunch box.

All 83 Shadow Pokemon snagged and purified! I actually finished this a few days ago, I just didn't get around to confirming it 'til now. All in all, I actually really enjoyed my time with XD. It's a good RPG, with some fun old school challenge. I just kind of wish it was longer!

Aw heck yeah, it's great to see some Jungle Beat love! The Country games may be my favorite, but I adore this weird and wild take on Donkey Kong. The intense punchout boss fights, the actionized, arcadey gameplay, the bizarre creativity in the enemy and level design; it's a good time for sure. If Nintendo ever wants to revisit some of this game's ideas for the future, I'd absolutely be down.

I'M BACK EVERYONE

Couldn't be part of this community challenge to this day because of work and other reasons but now I have more time! Currently playing Pikmin 1 (the Wii port). My favorite game ahah. I'll post here when I beat the game AND the Challenge Mode :)

Do you see what you get, Fami??? Do you see what you get when you mess with the WARRIOR?!

Proof for badges (collected all blue coins and beat the game):

I never want to see a Chuckster, or take Yoshi on a boat ride, again.

Are any of the pokemon permanently missable in Pokemon Coliseum or XD? I've got about 75 of them in XD, but I started from an old save, so not sure if I've missed any at this point.

Kind of related, but I was thinking about trying to pull a pokemon from one of the two games and going on a ribbon journey across the generations to see how many ribbons I can get on one pokemon. Has anyone seen any tips or guides related to something like that? I can always go through bulbapedia or something, I guess, but I imagine it's not well organized for that goal.

There's no missable Shadow Pokémon in either game.

Colosseum: You can eventually rematch certain trainers (usually after beating the game, but sometimes before) who will carry Shadow Pokémon that you may have missed earlier in the story. I can't be more specific than that, I'm afraid. Just search everywhere. Any Shadow Pokémon in the final gauntlet at Realgam must be snagged there, so if you missed one, you gotta do the whole thing again.
XD: After a certain point in the game, you'll meet Miror B, and you'll get the Miror Radar when you beat him. If you fail to snag any Shadow Pokémon, after a certain amount of time has passed the Radar will go off, showing you Miror's location. Battle him, and he'll have a random amount of Shadow Pokémon to snag. Any of Greevil's Shadow Pokémon must be snagged from him, so if you snag 3 and miss 3, you'll have to rematch him to snag the remaining 3.

In terms of ribbon collecting r/pokemonribbons on Reddit is a great resource. There's useful guides in the sidebar and plenty of people to ask for advice.

The Chuckster level might be the worst required mission in a 3D Mario game. It requires precision for talking to NPCs in order to succeed - just a little off and you get flung into the abyss. Beating it makes me just think "Thank goodness it's over!"

Still...I'm so close to finishing the game. 220 Blue Coins. Around 110 Shines. I can do this. Just...gotta get through that damn boat. Will that be the true worst? My perception of it IS colored by those ten terrible Blue Coins...

Yeah, I liked the scoring aspect of it. I got all the platinum medals back in the day, and I used to like finding ways to top my scores. I would replay a lot just to fight the bosses again though. Just found them all very creative and fun. DK repeatedly headbutting the egg on the bird boss or tossing a pineapple bomb into the elephant's trunk are just so wacky that they're unforgettable lol.

Well I’m blitzing Wario world… and added on the extra challenge of 100% and these last couple levels are surprisingly hard to do so

I did it, I finished all Wario World challenge chambers… that last one was hell, imagine if sunbird from sunshine was 7 rotating platforms with moving spikes on 2 sides with no flood and slippery physics.
Now for the last 2 bosses

I take it back. Corona Mountain is the absolute worst level in any 3D Mario game, and it's one of the most miserable final levels I've ever played in comparison to the rest of the game it's in. The first section is a little repetitive but not bad, some FLUDD hovering. But then...that boat. That horrible to control, extremely precise and finicky, crashes as soon as it barely skims a rock, surrounded by instant death everywhere boat. I hate it. Ruins the level. Horrid mechanic to make mandatory for the final level and a terrible final impression to leave on the player.

On the bright side? Only two more Blue Coins left, and then I am free.

Here, have some gameplay clips:

Here’s the proof of items collected(you get Wario ware transfer minigames for each level you 100%).

Now to face the final bosses

@Dopply

It is done. I am free.

Super Mario Sunshine is an interesting and polarizing game. In ways I do like this game more now on a second go. The movement shines a lot when you are more well versed in it. You can have a lot of fun combining Mario's athleticism with FLUDD's hover abilities, and as a result there is a lot of inherent fun to playing the game. But Sunshine also suffers from a weird structure (having to beat episode 7 of every level, making most optional shines pointless), some annoying missions on the critical path (Sandbird and Chuckster are the standouts there, for sure), a Yoshi that feel underutilized, and a pretty annoying 100% with lots upon lots of coin collecting. So many Red Coin missions. So many coins for 100 coin Shines that are their own separate missions. And all 240 of those damned Blue Coins, which are hell to find and keep track of without a guide and a tracker.

...was nice to cash in those Blue Coins, though.

Sunshine is still comfortably my least favorite of the 3D Mario's, but there's still a good amount to love, from its creative tropical setting to the fun movement. It's a nice, lived in world which feels especially nice given how safe the Mario brand can be, but it really could have used a few extra months of development time to, say, add one extra level or refine a few of the game's weaker missions. Worth playing, but bring a guide if you're doing more than the critical path. Really makes me curious to replay Odyssey again - in many ways I feel like it takes a lot of Sunshine's ideas and refines them, including the polish and focus of the more linear 3D games.

So, will I being doing more of this challenge? Not sure. Pokemon BDSP is out in less than a week, and I do want to replay SM64 with my new N64 NSO controller. But still, it was interesting to revisit Sunshine.

For A Cruel Melee’s Thesis:

This didn’t take as long as I thought it would, lol. I thought this was going to take an age, but it only took me five minutes. Rule of thumb for Cruel Smash: cheese, cheese, and more cheese. If you play the AI's game, you'll get whomped everytime.

Nothing is missable, but in Colosseum you could be waiting a looooong time before you can rematch the trainer. In XD they at least tend to go to Mirror B relatively quickly.

What is the best way to cheese?

Got all of the pokemon caught in XD! It was just a few from some out of the way folks in the first town, and then a couple from the final boss (plus mirror B's very last one). Now comes the arduous task of purifying everyone. I did a bunch of them this morning, though and once you get all 9 of the purification chambers going it seems to go pretty quick.

What is the best way to cheese?
My strat was to fly offstage, high enough that the Polygons all cluster onto either the left or right platform. Recover low, underneath the reach under the polygons, right under the platform. The polygons should all drop down in a group, so a well-timed Rest can KO all of them. Rinse and repeat for as long as you can.

Thanks @Robert

And @Dopply thats another one down! As usual my dog is proof it’s me XD

IMG_4226.jpg

Facepalm and I meant to use a different puff XD. Shrug, we’ll I did take out more tho

Hm I’m definitely not doing blue coin hell. So I guess that leaves Prime scan and MB2 as the 2 remaining badges I could go for

Pikmin done let's goooooooooo! ( @Dopply )

RdynFkl.jpg

As I already said somewhere on Fami, Pikmin is my favorite game ever, so it was a PLEASURE to beat it again (as I do every year tbh lol). 13 days is solid but I already did better (my personal record being 8 days back when I tried to speedrun the game). I did many mistakes but I'm still happy with my playthrough.

Also did the challenge mode badge 😁

x9DBOvj.jpg

Next one is the Smash Melee one I guess :)

EDIT: just did 5 KO on Cruel Melee. I'm so mad lmaoooo

I was going to do the Metroid Prime challenge on Trilogy, but as luck would have it, I was able to nab a Gamecube copy of Prime 1! Gonna do this challenge in true classic fashion (no Logbook completion percentage, lol!), which I think will liven up this challenge for me, as I haven't beaten either game with the original control scheme. Will be fun to note the differences in feel as I go through it.

Cruel Melee done

5NBIiWV.jpg

I thought it would take me longer but I guess I've been lucky because I only tried for, like, 15 minutes ahah. (sorry for @ing you again @Dopply lol)
