A good deal of this is either from a) the second beta trial from back in October, or b) from the second trailer, that arrived soon after trial was finished:

While I can definitely agree we don't have enough variety in the AAA space, the best I can say, at least for SE, is that maybe they may still be able to surprise. SoF: Origins has some color, I'm trusting FF7's remake will have more color as we continue the "series", and maybe even Forspoken may have something for those who want it (though I'll admit I'm already in the hole for that game too for other reasons LOL).

Oh wow the music in that clip is great wtf.

I actually think despite the shock of the initial reveal, Stranger of Paradise will be good in its own right

This person is getting annoying fast.

I legit don't understand how this person has gathered a large following. Not only that, despite the fact this person got so many things wrong for E3 AND TGA, people are forgiving this person and...I just don't get it.

Fuuuuck

I've got that "what game do I play oh no," anxiety.

I've got the 'new hotness' of Halo: Infinite. Buuuut I played three whole Halo games this week and, having played Infinite's opening missions (until you get to the open world), I can see that fatigue wearing in fast. That's despite the game's excellent gameplay.

I've got the slightly older, more niche hotness of SMTV. But I don't know whether I want the commitment of a long JRPG right now. However, it would be nice to have something to play on the Switch.

I could also go for something else - maybe Danganronpa if I can find a physical copy from GAME when I go to see Spider-Man on Thursday.

Either way, I'm at a point where I just don't have the drive to play anything and it sucks :(

oh shit oh fuck yeah this is very important

Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST| will be a separate thread. General threads will continue as normal, independent from the new Direct threads.
probably a good thing since this thread has taken more of a chill community vibe

Play SMTV, you're gonna get hooked.

So um... can I ask a dumb question....

What exactly will the purpose of each thread be then? The direct thread was where we'd chill out and talk about whatever and sometimes Nintendo, then when there was actually something to speculate about coming soon we'd speculate. That's what we've done here too.

EDIT: nevermind I see your post above

Ever since Bamco dropped the intro cinematic for Elden Ring it is all I want to be playing right now. Smh my head.

Isn't the next Dragon Quest game being billed as a Dragon Quest "for adults"? Square just wants to watch the world burn.

It's still made by the same people and having Akira Toriyama as character designer and they certainly know a big part of the appeal of Dragon Quest is that it's silly and goofy so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I'm sure they wouldn't alianate their japanese audience so it's probably gonna be "japanese adult" and not "westernized adult", which means we should get something like DBZ for Dragon Quest's Dragon Ball.

It's always a shock to me that Strangers of paradise isn't planned for Switch when the game is looking like an early PS3 game sometimes.
It runs and looks relatively really bad on next-gen consoles even so I'm not surprised myself. Though whilst I'd say that technically your point is a bit hyperbolic, it definitely has that "PS3/360 Unreal Engine 3" aesthetic going for it. It's rare that you see games that just look a bit 'unclean' nowadays. Even most Switch games with poor resolutions and PS3.5-level graphics don't look as 'dirty' as some games from that era.

Play SMTV, you're gonna get hooked.
I think I might. Then afterwards I can play Halo Infinite or Danganronpa or something else. What difficulty would you recommend for someone who has barely any JRPG experience, but doesn't want things to be so easy that I might as well watch the cutscenes?

oh my god

fuck

I’m sorry for everything I said about you I had no idea you were ACTUALLY SamusHunter
Good lord. And I went on that rant about samushunter the other day and everything, shit. 😳

Well, actually I'm pretty sure the whole reason @Raccoon's even doing that is to draw ire for the giggles, so he probably doesn't want an apology. 😂

Ive been facing that question myself because some people are saying V is easier than previous SMT and others are saying it's harder. Since I'm familiar with the series and like the challenge, I will try hard for starters, and will lower to normal if it's too much.

So I would recommend you start you normal. If its like previous SMT games, it's hard but fair and addictive, the difficulty makes you engage with the game's systems. You can always drop to easy if it's too much for you (and I've heard easy it's the equivalent to normal on other RPGs).

Yeah, it's a tough choice :( Thankfully! It seems that you can freely change between Normal and Casual any time you want, so I'll just go with Normal as I can always change up and down depending on how I feel.

Now to the choice of English or Japanese voices...

...fuck

That one was easy for me, one of them has Aogami calling me SHOUNEN with a masc deep voice and the other doesn't 😌

Okay, so here is the first wave of details about the new Nintendo Direct Speculation thread.

The thread will be intended for speculation about the presumed Nintendo Direct in Q1 2022. Once the Direct is announced, the hype season will be over and the thread will be closed, not returning until the fall hype season. I have been working on developing ways to enhance the spectacle and excitement of Direct hype season for this thread, and my goal is to heighten the intensity of this short period. Currently the intended launch time is midnight eastern time, January 1st, but I am open to the possibility of starting earlier if people would like. The earliest I am able to start is currently December 27, 2022. I am eager to hear feedback about the community's preferred start date.

While I have nothing concrete to report right now about the details of the event, I hope that you all look forward to it.

Besting infinite renewed my motivation to play stuff more so I’m working on shining pearl and then some Ps5 stuff but I can definitely feel you about fatigue.

You can switch between Normal and the lower difficulties (Causal and Safety) at will so start on Normal I'd say and drop down to Casual if you're having trouble.

It's SMT so Normal is a healthy challenge and from what I've heard Casual isn't a complete cakewalk either.

Hi all. I haven’t been active much since this site went up. Hope everyone is doing great.

As we head closer to the end of the year, I’m personally getting excited for next year. It’s looking like we’re going to be gifted with a slew of wonderful games. Especially if Xenoblade shows up as been heavily speculated for awhile. While on the subject, did we ever get clarification on what E.M.R. stands for? Considering Mochizuki’s reputation as a credible reporter, I’m surprised this particular tweet didn’t gain traction back then.

Its means

Elma, Mythra and Rex.

(I’m lying. I don’t know lol)

frustrating for sure (esp since I played it on a 2009 MacBook at maybe 8-20 fps) but god do I love it

it’s such a good twist with incredible music

nothing in Psychonauts 2 lived up to it narratively, though I enjoyed the game

It is excellent but ugh. And afaik this version was toned down in difficulty!

I like that system, good idea.

Also the Direct will air February 9, 2022. I have 95% confidence in this prediction.

If the rumors about XC3 are true, I wonder if they will carry forward some sort of Blade system from XC2. I think it added a lot to the game, but hopefully any future version mitigates the gacha factor.

Was listening to a Retronauts episode talking about R&D1’s projects back in the day, and now I’m sitting here daydreaming what a Zelda Land game by R&D1 would’ve been like if they had been given the reins like with the Mario Land series

I am so sad that Slay the Spire modding never really took off on PC. And Monster Train seems to be following suit :(

Yes to both of those, but I'm craving an update on UFO 50 (https://50games.fun/) which I don't think was in consideration for Switch when it was first announced. And Switch would be absolutely PERFECT for it.

Enjoy the Everdrive! I got one a couple months ago and it's really easy to setup and get working. Had the Mother 3 fan translation up and running on my Game Boy Player in about 15 minutes. Tried to snag the SNES one during the holiday sale but screwed up and my order never went through so I missed out on the sale price :(

I still wouldn't be surprised if the OLED model didn't include a spec bump simply because of shortages of necessary parts. I also think we're going to be lucky if we see a spec bump before 2023 but 🤷‍♂️

Wasn't it in testing for ages?

One of the update notes is less network usage which thank goodness. It complains an awful lot for me that it can't reach the network.
I’ve never play on PC. But all these modding talk makes me one day want to jump on PC for certain games. Might not be for a long time tho.

I think it is but it's gonna be a late port and Kotec wouldn't wanna miss those sweet double dip sales. So no Switch announcement at first. And yes, there will be double dips for a game like SoP.

This has to be one of the best town theme's in all of gaming. I can't think of anything else that tops it.

Yeah, I think we're gonna get another fun round of Nintendo releasing their last properly scheduled game (Pokemon Legends, globally, though they're publishing Triangle Strategy outside Japan) and there'll be a Direct within 2 or 3 weeks. February 9th seems reasonable.

That, and I have jury duty on the 9th so it'll definitely be then. I have no doubt in my mind.

I get the feeling I'm about to be sucked back into the world of Chris Sawyer's Locomotion after many years away, thanks to the OpenLoco project, made by the same folks behind the OpenRCT2 project.

I just saved this video for sampling purposes because man, this is hilarious to me if that dude in the video is serious (even though I think it's staged). The PErsona-music makes it even cooler haha:

Preface: I currently don't know much about "trains"

I have been staring at A-Train on the eShop with a death glare, knowing FULL WELL that game would consume my soul.

Also I've considered importing the Japanese Switch Densha De Go game + controller because

well

I know I'm a train guy, deep down. I know in the pit of my soul, in the dungeon of my heart, is imprisoned an absolute degenerate freak who could tell you about rail gauges and locomotive model numbers all day. He's down there. I can't deny that. However, I choose to keep him jailed. If I have my way, he will stay imprisoned until my train of life leaves this mortal station.

hahahaha I'm a train guy

I know who Nigel Gresley, William Stroudley, and William Stanier are and what they did. I can loosely summarize the careers of the latter two

I am absolutely trainpilled and I give almost no indication
