You were right, the game wasn't there. The part about insider info... What makes you say that?
It's an old post (from resetera) and at the time people still thought Xenoblade would release before the end of the fiscal year according to things that had been said, which is clearly impossible at this point

Just checking the TGA content. I think it's time to accept that Nintendo presence happened maybe because Reggie and Geoff having a good relationship. Since Reggie left Nintendo presence obviously went downhill. Meanwhile Reggie is still there each year presenting a game.

Not a problem for me, just maybe it's worth to tune our TGA expectations accordingly in the future.

This is a great list, but I still think we get a 2.5D Mario to coincide with the movie release. It just seems like a no brainer.
I agree with that, I think the next EPD big announcement is a 2D Mario, it's been a while since they're working on this.

That would still mean we didn’t see a new game from the Mario Kart and 3D Mario teams for 5 years (!). I really hope they have something fairly soon
Perfect games for the Dane if you want my opinion, just like Xenoblade 3. Bowser's fury struggles to keep its 60fps and isn't even in 900p. I think they want these games to SHINE on a new hardware.

not sure why everyone was positive we wouldn't see botw2 because nintendo wouldn't use tga for a big game like that, considering botw had been at tga like 3 times before it came out.
Because Nintendo of 2014-2016 was in a wildly, wildly different position in the market and needed all of the exposure it could get.

Happy Friday everyone. How are we feeling about the VGA? Underwhelming for a Switch fan, IMO.
Pretty excited for some games (Elden Ring, Hellblade) and intrigued by some stuff like Plague Tale and Space Marine. But I also thought it was a tad bit shooter heavy? Lots of games where you shoot things in the face (if they have faces). Most of the co-op shooters are a bit of a non-starter for me.

As a primary Switch owner it was a non-show but I already expected that.

My thoughts are starting to go in this direction, particularly for xenoblade. Assuming everything we've heard from insiders is true, how is it possible that a game whose development has supposedly gone smoothly, could be delayed by a whole year, minimum? Are they saving it for a hardware revision or something? Either that or the smooth development thing is just straight up false, or it was never meant for this year at all, or something. Something has to give.

Yeah, not sure why I let myself get swept up in the hype as the show got closer. I only own a Switch (and a gaming PC but I don't play anything on it besides FFXIV). Elden Ring looks good but I really suck at Souls games (it'll be nice to watch a walkthrough).

Tbh, I don't think 2022 Fire Emblem is a thing
Without putting words in her mouth, Emily suggested a little while back that a Fire Emblem game was "finished or near finished", but she did later clarify that there may be multiple FE projects on the go at various stages of completion (and some may have been canned or put on hold), and that wires may be getting crossed.

I could absolutely see them pushing it back though. FEH has a lot of active users, right? They're probably okay with that keeping the series alive in people's minds until something else is ready or right for the overall schedule. I'd love a new FE next year but I've also learned that even stuff that insiders have heard about can be subject to plans changing, so I'm not expecting anything until it's revealed (and even then I won't expect it to stick to its first release window lol).

Nintendo is starting to invest.
I'll crosspost my thoughts here:
I think the focus on staffing up stems from them realizing how person-hour intensive HD game development really is. They aren't getting games out fast enough, therefore they need more butts in seats. This new office space seems like a lotta buttspace.
crossposted mainly so I can share my invention of the word "buttspace"

Good morning folks! It's Friday!

how's everyone doin
Heartbroken, sickened and shocked that TGA was not the place for my niche and weeb sensibilities. Geoff has made a powerful* enemy this week.

*power level subject to 200 episodes, mostly consisting of filler and fan service, during which I will gradually amass a retinue of wacky sidekicks and discover what it is that makes me truly powerful:

Switch has best-ever hardware and software sales week in the UK / Europe

According to new data from Nintendo, Switch systems and games sold more in the UK and across Europe during the week of November 23 than any other week in the console’s lifespan. That’s based on reported sell-through according to internal Nintendo sales data. Software sales for both physical and digital sales are included.

On the hardware front, the previous best for Switch was in November 2019. The limited bundle including a Switch console, a download code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and a three-month individual membership to Nintendo Switch Online provided a boost in sales.

It’s been 4 years since BotW was on the TGAs and the last time it was on there was to release dlc lol. Cmon now, Nintendo hasn’t done much at the TGAs since 2018 and it’s totally understandable that people felt the same would happen this year.

Tbh, I don't think 2022 Fire Emblem is a thing and I guess Xenoblade 3 will be a March 2023 game.
This lineup is already complete:
Pokémon Legends Arceus + DLC
Triangle Strategy (West)
Advance wars
Casual game
Kirby
Mario + Rabbids
Splatoon 3
Monster Hunter DLC (which would take the summer slot)
Metroid Prime HD
Bayonetta 3
Breath of the Wild 2

Fill it more with third party games and the year is already pretty stacked. Why would Nintendo release ALL of its big games in a single year and have nothing for 2023.

Even with what we already know we have the chance to experience one of the best year on the system, we shouldn't be too greedy.
It's not a matter of greed, it's simple logic. Nintendo publish around 20 or more games a year on Switch including games from third parties plus eShop titles. That means that, even with rumours, we only 'know' about half of what they'll publish in 2022.

That doesn't mean the year is stacked with huge releases and I wouldn't mistake games with small but enthusiastic fanbases as a 'big deal'. Bayonetta, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade might excite this forum and gaming websites; commercially they'll only be a relatively small part of Nintendo's success if they all happened to launch next year.

Speaking anecdotally: I worked in an office where you could ask for a standing desk if you wanted one. I did!

I would say maybe 1 in 20 people asked for a standing desk.
The best part of office work is sitting. I know this because I've helped out at my wife's preschool where she teaches and an hour of that made me so tired I needed to sleep for 3 days.

Yeah, standing is for chumps (no offence @Derachi although I am tagging you so clearly on some level I must want you to know that standing is for chumps)

So my standing desk came with a folding bar-stool like chair for days I wanted to sit. It was nice!

Can't believe BotW 2 wasn't shadowdropped at TGA last night. How deep is the rot.

its weird how expectations get you... i kind of expected either chrono cross, botw2, or silksong to show. there was still some neat stuff there though. expanse telltale game could be really good. reading the last book right now.

fami, I don't know how to tell you this, so... I'm just gonna rip off the bandaid

I think the snow is causing heat death

by which I mean this was the only tab I had open in the only app I had open when I closed my computer last night

and this morning my brand new laptop was way warmer than it should be in my cold apartment

I will uh not be leaving the site open overnight anymore

if you need to reach me, you'll have to resort to psychic telegram instead of the usual "invoke my name loud enough on the board and I'll hear you in my dreams"

Mind you i'm not a dev here, but from what i think the snow is a physics based effect via a HTML 5 canvas. These get hard on the CPU.

I opted out because i appreciate my fans not going crazy after a while. ;D

Three questions:

1. What kinda laptop did ya get?
2. Have you tried disabling the snow? Even if just overnight?
3. Your laptop shouldn't really be doing enough to produce heat when the lid is closed, no matter how much snow is on your screen. Might wanna look at your sleep settings. Uh, this isn't a question, is it?

it was so funny to me when TGA ended and someone here said something like "oh prepare we will have these botw2 is not 2022 because it was not on TGA" oh boy was he right
You know, Nintendo probably made that entire montage just so they could assure fans BOTW2 is coming out in 2022 so they don't get (extra) crap from fans. It might not have worked though.

If you tab away from the snow, it should freeze in place so that the script isn't running idly in the background. The effect is pretty CPU heavy so these sorts of things are taken into account.

I’m back at the office for one day but I forgot my private macbook in my brother’s car so now I gotta browse fami on my phone 😭

It takes a lot of energy to freeze your pixels into snow

Is there an official thread for sharing NSO family subscriptions? I've looked and didn't find one, would it be fine if I made one?

Edit: Though I guess this is specifically expansion pass family plans. If you mean normally family plans, I think that's not covered yet? @bellydrum?
