Question for the thread, what other RPGs would you like to see revisited / remade like Super Mario RPG Switch specifically where they remix the combat with new mechanics? If you haven’t played it yet, some of the things added were perfect guard, free party switching mid battle, reserve team swap on death (there’s a choice for doing it individually when a dead character’s turn comes up that I don’t believe I’ve seen in other games before as well), splash damage for perfectly timed hits, buffs for chaining timed moves/blocks, triple moves, an actual legit Yoshi level up game, a revamped item system, and elite enemies. It’s a very interesting experience as a result as it stands as a true remix of the original game with various pros and cons before heading into exciting new territory with the new super bosses that add new mechanics entirely. Personally, I prefer the original version of Mario RPG, but this was a much more exciting rerelease than I expected as a result.
A few that came to mind for me were Chrono Trigger (I’m down to try new things here), Final Fantasy VIII (the combat and systems are already complex and have timed hits), and the first Xenoblade Chronicles (I wonder if you could incorporate ideas from 3 like elite enemies, more action elements, etc.).
