Tracks are great! Just two nitpicks. The trees in Rome Avanti look awful and is it just me or does Wii Rainbow Road feel super shrunken down?

The new credits sequence is just incredible; beats the base game's out of the water (including the new medley).

How do you roll credits? Beat the spiny cup and nothing
  • If you have the Booster Course Pass: Clear all DLC cups in Grand Prix mode ranked third or higher (for the second time and later, clear Moon Cup or Spiny Cup ranked third or higher).
  • If you don’t have the Booster Course Pass: After racing in the DLC courses in Online Play or Wireless Play 100 times or more, clear a random cup in Grand Prix mode ranked third or higher (for the second time and later, clear Bell Cup ranked third or higher).

Is there an easy way to make all the exclamation marks for Mii costumes go away? Seems tedious to go in and do a race with every single one...

Didn't have too much time to play tonight, city tracks finish off largely mediocre, par for the course. Mostly in favor of the changes made to the classic courses, BC3 feels like a solid modern era Bowser's Castle. Piranha Plant Cove feels like a spiritual successor to Wario Shipyard, not sure which of the two I prefer

Idk why they keep reducing the respawn time on item boxes, box denial and counterplay is a great part of the meta. Might as well bring back the item pads from SMK at this point

I've seen nothing but positivity reaction online from those changes

just played through the tracks on 150cc, gonna need time to formulate my thoughts but this might be the most even wave so far. every track was pretty good though i'm not sure if there were really any standouts outside of BC3

I miss being able to snatch a box from someone too.

Diddy...Funky....AND Pauline are amazing.

All the tracks here look and play great. Safe to say it's the best wave for me.

And the new credits.....officially the game is (for real this time) content complete!

For anyone interested in the specific weight classes for the new characters:

-Diddy Kong has the same stats as Inkling Girl / Cat Peach / Female Villager
-Peachette shares with Yoshi / Birdo / Peach / Daisy
-Pauline shares with Rosalina / Link/ King Boo
-Funky Kong shares with Wario / Dry Bowser / Large Mii

I wonder what happens if you trigger it first by clearing all BCP cups while on Expansion Pack, then let it expire. Does it count as "already seen", and shows up at the end of Bell? Does the counter start at 0? Does it count the times you've already played these cups locally back when you could? So many questions.

Weird to think I just played the last new tracks in Mario Kart 8 ... for the third time

Might have some more articulate thoughts after sitting with it for a while, but for now I'll just say that this game is an all-timer and they definitely ended it on a high note

I'm officially as heavy as 1 (one) Funky Kong

Played a few rounds of 150cc on the two cups. We have an extremely well-rounded selection of final courses here, I thoroughly enjoyed both sets. It's weird to think that we've reached the third ending of Mario Kart 8 nearly a decade after the original release, but this is truly one of the best games out there, and this DLC made it better and better.

I’ve played each course twice in 150cc, once in multiplayer and once in single player where credits rolled (which were quite good!), so I’m ready to share early thoughts. This was a great batch of courses and I love that sound test was added. I haven’t seen much of the new characters and while I wish Dixie made the cut I’m glad we got more than expected.

Rome Avanti - This is a very twisty and engaging course. I wish the colosseum floor was a little cooler, but other than that I’m quite pleased and I’m eager to learn it.

DK Mountain - I’m glad we got this one. Parts of the descent I like more (the top portion especially), though the final two turns leave me a bit wanting even if they largely get the job done. I also don’t like the new volcano. The basic one in the Wii version was perfection.

Daisy Circuit - I wasn’t asking for this one back, but it’s a solid course with a good vibe. The shortcut jump really rocketing you upwards now is cool. Wish we got Bowser’s Castle Wii instead.

Piranha Plant Cove - I was most excited for this one walking in and it did not disappoint! It’s a really interesting layout and makes a great case for why more city-like tracks under normal themes would be great to see in the next Mario Kart.

Madrid Drive - This is another great city course and I love how active it is with a lot of hazards. The music is great too! Excited to play more of this one.

Rosalina’s Ice World - I didn’t need another ice course (the dearth of beach courses stinks) and I wasn’t really asking for this one either, but this is a solid course. I like that the ice pulls away in lap 2 and the opening and final stretches are both solid each.

Bowser’s Castle 3 - Finally! Finally! A second Bowser’s Castle! I really like how they remixed this one with the different elevations and took a few liberties with the big final turn. Very glad this one was added, it’s great!

Rainbow Road Wii - I don’t know if this is as tough as the original, but this is an awesome course and they virtually did it justice. The layout is really engaging and by making it smaller it forces you to be more exact. This was my 2nd most wanted choice for the Booster Course Pass (first was Koopa Cape) so I’m thrilled it made the cut. What an excellent finale.

I have 655 hours in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so far and have no plans of stopping until the next Mario Kart arrives. I’m so glad the Booster Course Pass reinvigorated and expanded my favorite Mario Kart game and now with 96 tracks, this is truly the ultimate Mario Kart game. I’m of course still hanging around in this thread, but I just want to say it was a blast hanging out with all of you in this thread. Sharing this DLC journey together made it truly special :)

aww, that was such a great way to leave mk8dx with a bang. most of the courses looked really good, especially compared to the first few booster waves ones.

hearing the mkwii theme and seeing it in all its (shortened?) glory… :’)

this just got me even more excited for what comes next…!

Well, that's it; after almost a decade. It's been a wild ride, through some of the best and worst years of my life.
Finishing with Rainbow Road Wii, a track I have so many fond memories of from University, was the perfect swan song.
Saying goodbye at last feels bittersweet, but I'm sure the next game will blow us away all over again.

Amazing final wave and send-off for the game. It felt cathartic seeing the new credits through. What an amazing journey Mario Kart 8 has had.

My track rankings for this wave are leaning towards...

1. Wii Rainbow Road
2. SNES Bowser's Castle 3
3. GCN DK Mountain
4. Pirahna Plant Cove
5. Wii Daisy Circuit
6. Tour Madrid Drive
7. Tour Rome Avanti
8. 3DS Rosalina's Ice World

The Tour cities could end up changing order though. Hard to get a feel for the tracks with distinct laps at first until you've had several races on them.

that opening track in the new end credits is fire! reminds me of the Sydney theme which is easily one of the best songs in the game.

I LOVE that Pauline sings some lyrics from Jump Up Superstar when you nail some jumps.

Impressions on the tracks:
  • Rome Avanti: It was like being in Rome again. And even putting aside my fondness for the real place, I felt like the way this course looped around itself was very satisfying. But really I’m just biased, I’m just seeing places and being all “Oooh I’ve been there!”
  • DK Mountain: Kinda wish it didn’t skimp out on the falling rocks, and overall I wanted it to be busier. But it’s an above decent drive and the tunes got me beating my chest.
  • Daisy Circuit: It’s kinda just there. Probably the most boring track for me in these two cups.
  • Piranha Plant Cove: I adore the underwater ruins, there’s so much stuff to see, and like the City tracks it changes up the course layout per lap except instead of a regular city with embellishments you get the full-blown Mario zaniness. Best track, bar none.
  • Madrid Drive: Oh yeah, hit me with that Spanish guitar. Never been to Madrid but the vibes are very familiar. I love the Wiggler in the plaza lol.
  • Rosalina’s Ice World: I like how the beginning keeps you on your toes with the ravine, the middle lets you relax a bit with the adorable penguins, before twisting you into a cave with some precipitous drops.
  • Bowser’s Castle 3: The second most impressive track after Piranha Plant Cove. It’s a beautiful and dangerous update to the original. I spent more time trying to drive on top of those narrow walls than I care to admit.
  • Rainbow Road (Wii): Fun in terms of pure mechanical challenge, but the aesthetic is just generic Rainbow Road to me. Still one of the better tracks in this pass.
Anyway, be right back, time to organize a Mario Kart session with my friends

Got a bit of playtime in on my commute

First thing I checked was to see if they updated VS Race to allow a 96 course race because I'm crazy and want to see how high a point total I could achieve by racing every course in the game. Unfortunately the max is still 48 so that's my one disappointment with this.

Everything else though is incredible. Played and beat both cups on 150cc. Was pleasantly surprised by how different the SNES Bowser Castle course is and how hard the music goes. I love that Daisy Circuit still has the elevated pavements you can drive on. Both Wii Rainbow Road and Rosalina's Ice World look incredible. I was so happy to see the Madrid course contain a random football field where you drive through the goals and the piranha plant cove course felt great to race on too.
I was very happy to see a new set of credits roll after beating everything, it really helps makes this feel like a proper send off for Mario Kart 8.

With the entire booster course pass overall, I'm extremely happy. When they first started doing DLC for the original Wii U Mario Kart, I wanted them to keep going and building off that to get as many courses in the game as possible and this is exactly that. Yeah there's still plenty of my favourite courses missing like the DS Airship Fortress and Luigi's Mansion and heck as a massive Bowser Castle fan, only getting one additional one in the whole game hurts but at the end of the day, there ARE 96 COURSES IN THIS GAME NOW! It is the ultimate Mario Kart in nearly every sense, they even fixed my issues with the roster and brought back Diddy Kong, Birdo and Petey Piranha! Heck they even rebalanced the game which has been much appreciated as someone who just wants to play as Peach and still be able to compete somewhat.

The mind does drift towards the future and wonder how they'll even come close to topping all of this but for now we'll keep those thoughts at bay and enjoy the absolutely incredible amount of content we now have in one Mario Kart game!

Ok Pauline randomly bursting into excerpts from Jump Up Superstar when jumping or crossing the line is amazing.

A solid end to proceedings, I really liked the Bowsers Castle 3 update in particular, especially the remix of the SNES theme. The Wii's Rainbow Road has held up better then I remember too, maybe it helps racing on it with 8 Deluxe's physics instead of Wii's.

Credits have rolled for me now. What an amazing decade it's been for this game. If only Dixie had made the cut, then we would have entered nirvana.

I see that Nintendo was afraid of success, they didn't put the option of 96 courses in VS. Also, nothing against Peachette, but you can't deny that below Kamek and to the right of Morton, King Bob-omb was the best option visually speaking hahaha.

Wave 6 is incredible. I am Spanish and I love the way Madrid has been represented. And this last summer I was in Rome and I have been able to identify all the monuments.. Amazing job.

Just downloaded and about to try the last tracks. I'm really glad they went the extra mile with the soundtrack mode, mii costumes and BCP credits.

I'm sat listening to that glorious main menu theme and it's hitting me: what a special game this is. I've really taken it for granted over the years, but thinking back to playing it for the first time and it felt more next-gen to me than anything else on Wii U up to that point in time. Really glad to have so many tracks to play, and very excited to see what EPD 9 can do next.

Yep, i cant believe how much time has flown by since we first played this back on the Wii U in 2014. While I want a new game, im glad Nintendo stuck with it on the switch and gave more people the chance to learn what an amazing game it is. While not every new course is a winner (looking at you tour tracks), I think I can look at this entire package now and say that its objectively the best Mario Kart, and that Nintendo have quite a mountain to climb to surpass this with Mario Kart 9.

For mario Kart 9 id like to see a graphical improvement made to the character models themselves. Dont get me wrong, the game is still gorgeous, but some times during replays I notice how low poly some of the actual characters are, and how they don’t all seem to look naturally integrated into the karts. Its a small nit pick for me that few other people notice or care about the because the rest of the game looks so damn good still.

To demonstrate my point a bit, bowser here for example has a lot of sharp jagged edges on him. Parts of his body that are more well rounded in other mario titles. Again, not a big deal, just a minor improvement I’d like to see in 9. Please dont take this as me complaining, and I’m not calling this game ugly at all

Near-instant reaction: Rome's pretty good as far as city tracks go; DK Mountain really needs to be played in multiplayer to be appreciated; Daisy Circuit was kind of forgettable and was never a favourite of mine on Wii, but the last stretch through the tunnel onwards is fun; Piranha Plant Cove is good as far as new additions go and reminded me of Kart 7 with the heavy underwater emphasis - I wouldn't rate it as highly as Ninja Hideaway, and Yoshi's Island is simply on another level when it comes to new Tour tracks.

Spiny cup up last! Nice to see it referred to as Spiny rather than blue shell.

Bowser's Castle in the spiny Cup is exactly what I want from SNES and GBA tracks - a modern reimagining that's faithful to the original. Rosalina's Ice World is pretty, but I'd have preferred either Airship Fortress from DS or Wario's Shipyard from 7. Rainbow Road Wii is a strong finale, and I loved the music in Madrid, which felt like another decent city track.

Good wave all round.

Dunno whether this is a popular or unpopular opinion but I hope they don't use 12 racers per race next game. I tend to leave full lobbies due to the sheer amount of item spam happening.
The next Mario Kart is more likely to include a 99 mode then it is to revert back to 8 drivers.

Idk, but I believe I noticed some frame drops when playing, especially on the Rosalina track. Is that possible/did you witness some as well? I can’t really imagine this is a real thing considering it’s MK8 and “just” additional content
