StarTopic Fashion Dreamer |ST| Goatee Contender

Of all the things that are genderlocked, I can't believe the different styles of shorts are one of them.
And footwear, goddamn footwear, even socks
I hope enough people complain about this online—or better yet, communicate to syn Sophia directly on social media or wherever—for them to take notice and hopefully at least fix this to some degree in updates. Have there been any reviews yet? And if so, do the reviewers actually point this issue out? I worry that most players (especially cis people) aren’t even going to care, though, so there may be no hope of anything changing… =/

I was really hoping for this game to be good for me, but I’m not buying it as long as all the clothing stays gender-locked like this…

I’ve been sorry to see your posts about how this game isn’t meeting your needs. 💔 Hopefully they can do something to improve that aspect in the future. Especially since the gulf between a taller Type A and shorter Type B doesn’t seem like, a world apart? I understand the clipping issue and that these games aren’t made on a huge budget with a huge team. But the vibe is so perfect otherwise!

Wait, are there multiple sizes of Muse body types, too? And the tallest Type A type is comparable size to the smallest Type B size, meaning that you can’t even have an actually short Type B Muse?! Ugh, why… Short AMAB people (like me!) exist, too!!

It’s all just especially disappointing because this game is entirely about fashion and customization, and—from what I’ve seen online at least—the main audience for this kind of game (in other words, Style Savvy fans) has a decently large percentage of queer players, yet the game does this gender-locking shit that is at odds with both the game’s focus on customization and the game’s queer audience… This really feels like the whole Tomodachi Life issue all over again; a game making unnecessary restrictions that go against the core purpose of the game and exclude a whole group of people, like how Tomodachi Life was all about watching your Miis—which are based on real people who may have a range of different sexualities—live their lives and form relationships, but then that whole relationship element (which major game features are locked behind!) is locked to being strictly monogamous male-female relationships.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve been this disappointed in a game I was looking forward to since Tomodachi Life… I was able to launch an online campaign and get the ball rolling on that issue (oh god, has it really been almost a decade since then?) which had positive results, even if it was too late to change anything for that particular release…but I just don’t know if I have enough energy and interest to do the same here for Fashion Dreamer. Plus, since it’s not a Nintendo game featuring iconic characters, I doubt I’d be able to get the word to spread anywhere near as much… =/ Really wish this would’ve been a Nintendo-published game, because I feel like the gender-locking probably wouldn’t be a thing if that were the case…

Don't think they've sent out review codes before today

Fortunately even the japanese players are also asking this in marvelous JP Twitter

I think at least trying to get the word out would be a good idea. I've already seen a bit of buzz about it on Tumblr alongside the fit posts.

While we're at it, I'd also appreciate more body type diversity in general. Right now all body types seem to be basically height differences.

We know updates are coming, and while it's hazy I remember DxM, which was also a similar "Marvelous doing an exclusive with Nintendo they patched over time" situation, having them be very receptive to feedback. So it's always worth a shot.

Made some GIFs for you!

TYPE A sizes:

TYPE B sizes:

Worth noting I am using default looks for these; TYPE A looks more feminine, and TYPE B looks more masculine. But hairstyles etc seem fully transferable! I hope this helps 🙏

Oh hell yeah you’re speaking my language

(still hoping Style Savvy makes a return someday)
if it does really well either nintendo will happily publish it in na and eu exclusively or make another style savvy. im honestly fine with whatever happens.

its really the only high quality game like this

Oh, okay, maybe I misunderstood then ‘cause from this it seems you can indeed make short Type B Muses, so that’s good at least! Thanks!

Great outfits everyone! What’s the gameplay loop like?
Kinda similar to Style Savvy because you dress up people depending on what they ask you, but it's simplified (they don't pay for it so you can just give them whatever, they don't have a budget), and instead of managing a store you manage your social media. The aim is to get more and more subscribers (not actual players subscribers, it's just a number that goes up whenever you do something in game)

To me it doesn't feel like a gameplay loop as engaging and interesting as Style Savvy, but it's still cool. Focus is clearly on the social functions of the game. You can dress other players too. It's very satisfying when other players like your style, your clothes, and dress you. Can't imagine the game being as fun if you don't play online.

Being able to create multiple characters that share progress is a game changer. Fantastic for people like me who want to do a type A and type B character.

Kinda annoying though that you can't move the camera in the photo booth. You can only zoom, and rotate the muse. Results in terrible composing if you want to show the whole outfit.

Finally xseed updated the NA page, teasing a runway for the January update

Interested on what they're cooking there. Talking about "events" and showing a runway makes me think this might be like multiplayer fashion shows?

It's a very different loop from Style Savvy, that's for sure. I'm enjoying it a lot, mind you, but it's basically a different game. I appreciate the expanded dressup options and the social aspects are spot on. But I would also like the management and story.

It's fun because my partner also picked up the game, and she's been very staunch about not making a Nintendo account at all, but now wants one to try online out lol

These are all amazing!! Love your use of stickers, too!

I'd also love an option to move the camera in the photo booth, honestly. It's annoying because I really like all the options there, all the frames and backdrops and stickers are great. But it's impossible to make an off-center composition.

At the moment this game needs a nice QOL update, stuff like a better search function, better camera controls for photo egg, volume options (SFX is a little loud) etc. We'll have to see with the next two patches if they're interested in fixing these gameplay things or just adding new content.

My Type B is very cute at the moment, I just wish things like shorts and pants weren't locked. They're still serving

Oh yeah I figured we should post our IDs! I switch between three Muses but my main one is "Tsuki" with the User ID: mYxVvA5xBA. You can find yours by checking "your World" in the menu once you get to online, and can search up IDs as well.

Adding you right now!

My single muse so far is named "Tangy", ID: wEXryN83LK

Edit: Huh. ID did work, but I got a muse named Chloris instead.

Sorry @Red Monster I have downloaded Fashion Dreamer to play alongside Dave the Diver on Switch. That's 2 more games I want to play this weekend.

This game looks so cute. One of my besties loves the game. But I don’t really tend to play these games, but it looks silly fun and is cheaper than other games.

What’s the gameplay loop?

I enjoyed making my villager cute in animal crossing if that matters :p

And do the guys get enough fashion/outfits?

That January update sounds pretty exciting. It’d be cool if you could host your own online runway show! And there is gonna be a FamiFash Event with prizes if you can 👏

I've changed the second post of the StarTopic to a User ID listing! Make sure to @ me if you share yours so I don't forget to add it.

OK. I understand like hey, it's a bit of a niche game and it's not going to sell a bajillion copies or whatever. But seriously: no reviews from mainstream sources?

That is wack. As someone who hasn't played a fashion game in like 20+ years, I hope people are discovering this. I was excited for the game but figured it would be like a, "Hey, I have 20 minutes, let's play that" sort of thing. I've played for at least 3 hours today lol. Wildly enticing.

@Sparkling Hootle Essentially, you dress up and post pics of yourself to an in-game social media platform. The game also seeds the hub area with other players' avatars and NPCs, which you can dress as well. Both of these things give you rewards that you can use to create and discover new clothes, and so the cycle continues! If you enjoy that dress up, "I wanna be cute!" mentality, I think you will like this game. If you ask me there are plenty of more masculine options available! I've played probably 5-6 hours so far and I am swimming in clothes of every description at this point.

I did my job yesterday! I showed it to a friend in the work and ask her for help to soome coords and I even sold her on the switch lol

It was like

Friend: "wait a moment... no this needs gray, you don't have it in gray?"
Me "You can make it, go to create option"
friends eyes starts to sparkle
Friend: "so uh.. there is the switch lite and is it cheap in amazon, can I play it in that model?"
Me "one of us, one of us"

Thank you very much for your input. :) I’ll def get this later, just got a bit of a small backlog this holiday. My bestie will keep me occupied with updates on it for now :)

Whoa, game is charting very well on all eShop fronts! Which is surprising as neither of the Style Savvy games on 3DS managed to crack into 3DS top 10 sellers. Maybe Marvelous' marketing efforts for the game is more effective? As others pointed out, no one's reviewing the game, makes the success of the game even impressive.

Maybe I should get it to before the sale ends. I wanted deeper customization than the last game on 3DS, but I won't complain if this does not have that.

The thing is Marvelous EU / Xseed didn't really post about this until yesterday, hell even the preorder bonus were only announced in a post in their webpage lol. With that said is good more people are playing it

I'm pretty sure Style Savvy did crack top 10 in Japan/Europe a couple times.

Europe even got a couple special edition 3DSs designed after the series.

I'm conflicted. Played a few hours. It has a lot of potential and does many things very well. Gender locked stuff is absolute trash. No two ways around it. I think we need to make more noise (politely) and send Synsophia some contact form emails and also Xseed / Marvelous. This isn't a "wait for the next game for fix". We need the fix for this game since updates are planned.

The game is so freaking good. Here I was thinking that it would be a Style Savvy-like tinker game, to be played here and there, but this game has me, like, absurdly hooked. Yesterday ended in a straight up 7 hour stretch.

Not only because I positively adore fashion and clothing styles in general, but also how the game wraps itself around its various reward mechanics. You just get showered in it all constantly: E-points, follow count, brand level, tickets for bingo and gacha, lucky coins, etc. And they all fill their respective function when it comes to the game's real point, which is self-expression and letting your own aesthetic flair loose with all the amount of tools you get for it.

The kick I get from finding a new look really feels strong, and to take that look and throw it around in the photo egg, with the drone camera and occasionally have another muse wear it is so much fun, it is a reward in and of itself. But the game also elevates itself by playing with risks as well. Spending E-points in the item creation to build your brand only to see it skyrocket and have you land a 5-star item to be displayed in your showroom is yet another of the game's kicks, but equally, there's a huge bummer when you risk an intimidating amount of E-points on an item only to see the bar, like, barely move. It becomes a trick to master, and though it feels random at times, it's fun to try to figure out what hits.

Anyway, here's da lookz so far. In regards to posting here, there will be a lot of cases in practicing restraint on my part, haha.

Gender-locking does dent the experience a bit though. Not only for the annoyance factor ("can't be worn by type A" etc) but also in regards to how exclusionary it is. It's a bit like, here's this enormous amount of customization options, but we couldn't bother to add options to people who wants to tailor their own experience in regards to body types and gender expression.

Love these looks in particular. The photo on the bottom looks great. That pose with the blurred palette in the background! I need that Ghost shirt, and I need it right away.

And hey, just for the record I don't wanna see anyone exercising any sort of restraint in here. We must have all the looks!

EDIT: never mind, the tutorial answered all my online questions (thanks anyway BLG!)

I hope something can be done. I was wondering about that news regarding future updates, and how many new clothing items they might add in over time. Hopefully the % of A+B Type clothes can at least go way up as a result of that, if a retrofit solution is somehow not an option.

Fingers crossed you play long enough to share some of your Art. Ongo Gablogian and I can't wait forever...
