stoked that this is coming since I’ve never played (most) of it!
that said:
I hope someday they’ll give me my favorite Paper Mario
that’s right…
Color Splash
the writing and the weirdness have really truly kept it at the top for meI was surprised by how much I liked Color Splash. It wasn't perfect by any means, and you could tell that it was rushed, but it was a lot of fun.
Still, I think the Paper Mario game that could benefit the most from a remaster with QOL fixes is SPM.
The developing arrangement of the World Map theme in Color Splash might be one of my favorite things in the series, period.and the music, my god…
the world map is super underrated too — like it’s a weird approach to sort of tie an SMB3-style map back into it — but it really works for me!The developing arrangement of the World Map theme in Color Splash might be one of my favorite things in the series, period.
yeah but those people weren't making that argument so if they start to make that argument you know just how much their opinion matters lol. Concern trolling is not worth time.Only thing stopping this is "it's a remake, so it doesn't count"
Definitely ends the "they'll replace every single original character with regular Goombas and Toads" meme, though.
It's interesting how the style evolved across the series. I always read TTYD's aesthetic as having more of a comic book flare to it because of that halftone effect it would use on a few things like the sky in this shot:I also think the original already kinda felt like a pop-up book. 64 was always more storybook than TTYD to me; TTYD was the start of leaning into more papercraft elements in the aesthetic.
God, it would be so disappointing if it turns out that it's 30 fps. The remake seems fine otherwise but this would sour the whole thing
I’m down for a remake, but they’ll leave the game as isI hope this opens the door to a Super Paper Mario remake. Lovely game but with a lot of flaws that could be fixed in one (weak bosses, the sometimes weird pacing, some of the level design).
There are tons of different backgrounds but yes, they always fight on a stage.I know it's a remake, but I wish the battle backgrounds were more interesting and colorful. It's really just a boring stage?

Never played it before. I have played Origami King though and I like the battle background design of that much better. The stage props attacking is interesting though!Have you played TTYD before? The entire game takes place on those theatre like settings and includes various interactions with both the stage props and the audience depending on the battle, one example was shown in the trailer where some of the background tree props fell on an enemy, which would be the result of an attack that shook the stage.
There's not a lot they could have done to change the theming of that.
me too. And I was a purist (kinda) until Origami King. The OG games are amazing but the series is not dead and has a clear road forward to success. I can't complain about that. Made me realize I was more concerned with the IP dying than anything probably. This annoucement has made me come to a disturbing realization on how much the Paper Mario discourse has poisened my brain.
So TTYD is one of my favorite game of all time, I played it like 9 times since I got when I was 10. I should be overjoyed for this remake, and I am looking forward to it. However, I have spent so many unpleasant moment with the diehard fans of the first 2 game (considering I very much love the modern games, especially TOK, you can guess why) that my very first thought when I saw the remake was "Thank fuck the purists will finally shut up about it now!"
Like that's super sad and petty, I shouldn't let these people get to me, but they do and I can't help it.
Anyway, I hope there's some additional post game content like the Mario RPG remake.
Stage audiences will also throw stuff at you or do something small to the stage to benefit or hurt you.Never played it before. I have played Origami King though and I like the battle background design of that much better. The stage props attacking is interesting though!
damn, this is more of a remake than a remaster
The biggest problem with gambling is also the PEGI in Europe. They are the reason why Pokemon removed it. There is also no mention of Gambling in the French PEGI description of the game, just "Fear, Violence" and it's PEGI 7.I sure do hope the noose means absolutely nothing got censored, from the stuff with Peach to Pianta Parlor (I was seeing someone bring up that there was some new ESRB rule about simulated gambling requiring a higher rating, but I'm not knowledgeable about it myself). Everything so far has been perfection.
They said it was too soon to be announced. They said it would never be done. What have they to say now?
It's a great 20-25 hour experience trapped in a 30-35 hour game. The levels are thankfully (usually) pretty enough that it's not TOO bad, but expect to revisit the same areas more than once in each chapter.Game looks gorgeous by the way. I've never played TTYD and honestly I wasn't much of a fan of PM64, but I'll give this a try. Hope they make the effort to make it more streamlined, I heard the backtracking can get quite bad.
I feel like the devs would probably adjust this. After all they are redoing a whole bunch of the graphics it seemsSuperguards are 3 frames in the original. That would effectively make them frame perfect.
Prefacing this that I actually quite enjoyed TOK in the end, but it absolutely went both ways a few years back lmao. What with the five million "PAPER MARIO FANS WHEN THERE'S NO EXP"/"PAPER MARIO FANS WHEN THE CRAFT MATERIAL SHOWS UP"/ etc. shitposts on twitter that derailed any attempt to even question TOK's direction. Absolutely reeked of fans getting angry people weren't adequately excited for a product, or pointing at dumber people upset at white outlines or w/e to handwave the mountains of legitimate criticism more level headed people had. This annoucement has made me come to a disturbing realization on how much the Paper Mario discourse has poisened my brain.

They aren't. They just don't play like the first two Paper Mario games.Nintendo: "Make the next two games sequels to Sticker Star."
I mean, I remember pretty clearly TTYD fans getting very annoying way back at Super Paper Mario's release because it wasn't "yet another TTYD".Prefacing this that I actually quite enjoyed TOK in the end, but it absolutely went both ways a few years back lmao. Really not buying this revisionist history where it was only one side to the Paper Mario discourse when I got called a dumbass point blank for saying I wasn't excited for TOK because I felt burnt by SS and CS or saw fans of the old games called freaks for not being excited enough.
At least with Sticker Star it felt fairly unanimous with how everyone felt lmao.
EDIT: Eh maybe this post was whinier than I intended, but I still get annoyed that after coping some dumb abuse for trying to articulate why I wasn't excited for a game I wasn't excited for back in 2020 a few years later it's suddenly 'boy TTYD fans sure did harass everyone over that huh'. Probably also doesn't help this was on twitter which has always been a wasteland for discussion regardless of context but hey, still excited for this remake!
That goes too far back for me to remember internet-time wise so I can't really comment on that lmao.I mean, I remember pretty clearly TTYD fans getting very annoying way back at Super Paper Mario's release because it wasn't "yet another TTYD".
(Speaking of which, I believe Super Paper Mario is also better than TTYD and deserves a remakester along with PM64).
Funnily enough, I like SPM's "battle system" better than TOK's because it just goes straight to the point. That goes too far back for me to remember internet-time wise so I can't really comment on that lmao.
I like Super well-enough but I honestly found the gameplay to be a slog when I replayed it a few years ago leading up to TOK. Great story and characters but the platforming/JRPG mechanics didn't really mesh that well and I think TOK has a better flow to its attempt at real-time combat.
Pretty sure they're keeping all the remakes and such for OG Switch while they save most of the new stuff for Switch 2.So whats the speculated consensus that if this game will be released for next gen as well? All they revealed was a 2024 release.
You guys think this is a part of the (cross-gen) games that will release on both systems? Or switch exclusive?
None, because most of these Switch games will likely be playable on the successor via BC.So whats the speculated consensus that if this game will be released for next gen as well? All they revealed was a 2024 release.

Every time you comment anything related to old style Paper Mario, it's with a swipe at fans of them, often straw-manning like above. Any thread paper mario related on this board, I predict and expect you to come in with some type of comment like that, and you never fail to!They aren't. They just don't play like the first two Paper Mario games.
Also, my faith that this will end the psychopathic "Mario Mandate" conspiracy theorizing is at the absolute minimum.
Not every fan is like that, and I hope the people that love TTYD enjoy this new version (whether it's a remaster or remake). I'm not saying don't be excited. Cool beans if you prefer the newer games and I'm sorry if some old-style fans have been obnoxious over the years. But there's plenty who haven't acted that way.
We've not had anything like this for nearly 20 years, give us some leeway to be excited for a change lol. PM64 is my favourite game of all time and I love TTYD as well, I've been waiting a very long time for this!
