going back to the Peach game, it gave me Viewtiful Joe vibes when she is fighting in her sword fighter outfit.

I don’t know how to feel about this game, it looks great but gameplay wise it looks as deep as puddle, I don’t understand if it’s going to be more like a cavalcade of minigames or something more deep, i need to see more of it.

My little sister gonna love this game, now if only there's a pink oled/lite to go with it so I could bought both for her birthday coming next year june

This looks really, really good. The transformation mechanic looks great and the variations in gameplay looks fantastic. Great to see that Peach gets to kick some ass for once.

This game could be huge if Nintendo play their cards right

Feels very Next Level. At the beginning the narrator says “Princess peach and some Toads” I swear is almost an identical line from Luigi’s Mansion 3. The suitcases the Toads carry almost look the same from Luigi’s Mansion 3 bus scene

I buy Nintendo consoles day one. Mario platformers are never my priority.
So you're saying you'd skip it if it happened to be the launch game or you'd wait for more ?
By that same logic it was ''bad" to launch with BOTW when the franchise historically speaking had been less popular than Mario.

Pause the trailer right when Wicked Grape shows up and you can see two signs lit up in the background depicting a kunai and also a cowboy hat with horns.

So yeah, Ninja and Cowgirl Peach are basically confirmed

I don’t know if it was just a pun for the direct narration, but calling the levels “Stolen Shows” was brilliant lmao

I mean I don't specifically prefer Mario platformers over other games and genres, and when I do get them they're not my priority. Why is that a weird concept?

it's just kinda weird to act like 3D Mario doesn't appeal to a relatively wide audience, you could do far worse as a launch game to attract an audience quickly assuming you have a year one lineup that appeals to other segments of your playerbase. In the same way BOTW wouldn't have necessarily appealed to everyone right away.

What I thought was interesting was how they said this game will "make its debut" on the Switch, which could mean it'll come to the next thing as well.

Or, because of the game's theme, it could just be theater-based wordplay.

Watching the new footage, I wasn't sure whether to think of it more like Kirby, or what Peach would've looked like in different Final Fantasy V jobs.

Yoshi's Cookie cookies is a perfect touch.

I’m glad they decided to take Peach in the Barbie “she could be anything” direction. Game looks great.
This was my immediate thought too! "She's everything; he's just Mario."

Not to sound like a suit but if they play it right this could become her whole thing and they could flog a ton of merch from it. Bung in a sequel or DLC expansion that introduces Daisy as a co-op partner, job done.

I feel like I'm going crazy reading some of the "What's the gameplay/is it a minigame collection?" takes elsewhere.

The trailer shows Peach repeatedly travelling on mostly a sidescrolling plane, with her outfits giving her different abilities to help her progress.

It's almost certainly a puzzle platformer. Those bits where we see the gameplay go a bit weird - the sword duels, cooking and kung fu fights - are likely showstoppers/encore bits that accentuate the level(s) and their themes.

I'm talking about a new 3D mario game, not a 2D Mario game that looked exactly the same as the previous entries.
Oh hm, I do find that a bit harder to argue then. 2D Mario games might sell more, but 3D Mario games are very good at galvanizing a hardcore audience relatiovely quickly, which is what console launches need.

I'd say though that with an IP portfolio as diverse as Nintendo, it's generally not good to make too many assumptions. After all, they're not the biggest video game publisher in the world just because of Mario, but becaus of their plethora of IP. I mean, Mario platformers aren't even the best selling games on Switch! I personally find Mario platformers pretty inconsistent to be honest, some of them are GOATs and others are just ok.

Mario has Bowser.
Donkey Kong has K. Rool.
Wario has Captain Syrup.
Yoshi has Kamek.
Luigi has King Boo.
Captain Toad has Wingo.

Now Peach has Grape. Everyone has their own arch-enemy.

I didn't say it doesn't appeal to a wide audience. I said not all fans of Nintendo games are specifically Mario fans. I don't know why this is upsetting you.

This looks really cool, glad Peach is getting a much-needed spotlight!

It’s also really neat how some of Nintendo’s biggest modern games like this, Animal Crossing, Pokémon, etc. have such a broad demographic target.

I'd be back on the maybe it's Good-Feel train if it weren't for the fact that they were working on another big game at the same time.

TOSE would be highly appropriate tho. Something of a redemption arc even

This is not even a sequel to Super Princess Peach.

They haven't made any games of their own since 2008. There's a difference between their usual hidden grunt work, and claiming the whole game for themselves.

It reminds me a bit of Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Maybe NLG but they might be working on the next-generation Luigi's Mansion. However, it looks very nice, and my daughter fell in love with the trailer

Betting on HAL.

Oh I'm sure Nintendo will do the claiming no matter who is developing lol

But if we found out via credits that it was predominately TOSE working on it, then it'd be like the George Lucas kind of poetry imo

Like they got a second chance in a way and this time it worked out so much better. But it's just speculation

YESSS he was paying attention lol
I couldn't have possibly caught every lovely post made in that wonderful thread (there were so many, and it was moving so fast!), but "Trust the Princess" was a stroke of brilliance I'm glad I saw!

Truly a GOATed thread for this site.

I look forward to the Switch 2 reveal event lead-up thread when ever that kicks off!

The highlight of the September 2023 Direct for sure. The initial trailer already gave me beat em up vibes, and it was really exciting to see that confirmed because it something really different for a Mario franchise game. But they did a really fun job of pushing it further.

Princess Peach has often been limited in the range she is allowed to show in games. She's the royal, elegant type usually. And it's not like she doesn't still have that vibe here, but the costumes her her inhabit different roles, and s lot of them are extremely cool. Detective! Kung Fu! Swordfighter! And this sets up neat scenarios in the plays, which pushes both fun fantasy and gameplay variety. This really does get to feel like Peach's game in the same way Luigi's Mansion is Luigi's game - not a copy of the main series but its own fun thing - and I really dig that.
