For those among you who enjoy long YouTube videos, PvK has a new video about the usage and relative merits of RBY Rhydon and Golem:

Meanwhile, Werster has been working on a new route for SoulSilver glitchless speedruns that overhauls much of the early game to get a different Raikou that can take on Red more consistently, maybe:

I’m sure this is a me problem, being American and all, but I cannot understand the person speaking in the gen one rock video. Maybe it’s to do with their particular accent combined with how fast they talk, but even with the captions on they lose me very quickly.

Sorry for asking here, but is there like a Pokémon Trading community here on Fami?

I'm about to start a new Pokémon Shield playthrough, this time with DLCs included, and I would absolutely love to have a Galarian Farfetch'd because Sirfetch'd looks badass. I don't have anything cool to offer in return though, so there's that.

I own Let's Go Pikachu, Shining Pearl and Violet, so if there's a version exclusive Pokémon you need from those, I wouldn't mind getting it to offer it in return.

I think this is the right place to ask. I currently don't have Sword with me but I could get back to you tomorrow, if nobody else has helped you out by then :)

Question Of The Whenever #1
Now that the Pokemon Center forum has been folded into the Treehouse, it's time for the first Question Of The Whenever to spice this thread up! I'll post a question like this whenever the mood strikes me, in hopes that it'll draw out some discussion and get this thread bumpin' from time to time.

Question Of The Whenever #1
-Every main series Pokemon game starts with you in your room, so the question is; of the 10 different ones, which one would you most like to actually live in? I will provide pictures down below behind spoiler tags for a visual element and to refresh your memory.

hmmm.....If we're going just by the rooms

The Kalos room is super snazzy, I think it gets my vote.

The Galar room is actually most similar to my actual room. I would have knocked off points for no window, but if you look at the house from the outside, there is a window in the angle of the room that you cant see.

Alola room does look pretty comfy though

I have always liked the rooms in Gen 3, don’t even get me started on the ability to make your own home away from home with the Hidden Rooms.

I love how the Alola room makes use of the overload of inconvenient sharp angles. I would happily sit down at that desk by the windows to get my homework done each day right after school.

Tough choice, but I think I like the room in Paldea the most. The cozy tones of the wooden flooring, the cabinet gives me mad nostalgia since I used to have one like it, and even comes with an OLED Switch for good measure.

Rate my SwSh Team:

F5S4Nme.png

Sirfetch'd is the MVP!

Grass/Fire/Water core. One type short of the Dragon/Fairy/Steel core. One type short of the Dark/Fighting/Psychic core. All appropriate gen mons. Two possible Gigantamax forms. Ditched the starter. Sirfetch'd in the slot reserved for traditional electric mouse mascot of the team. 8/10

Would be an 8.5 with Sanaconda in place of Runerigus.

I dunno how many people watch the anime, but damn episode 18 of Pokemon Horizons is near movie level quality. Also Larry has a cameo!

Came across this playlist with Japanese reactions to the Porygon episode. Pretty interesting to watch.

Also, a bonus BBC News report

Not having a flying type Pokemon on my team when the game starts to force you to backtrack from Icirrus City to the Desert Resort was an oversight on my part.

That was a fun little video, I'll be curious to see if it is a split evolution of Sinistea or if it has it's own pre-evolution. The leaker Khu has been teasing it as a "convergent" species like Toedscool and Wigglet.

Also now we can field a full team of Grass/Ghost Pokemon.

They just translated the "tea" in Polteageist to "cha". The naming sense is on point.

It's interesting that it references the practice of kintsugi, a method of repairing pottery by filling in the cracks with gold. Pretty cool take on a Ghost type!

If it's a convergent Pokemon and not a regional form ... why did they make it Ghost (partially)?

Fairy / Grass would've been better ... after all, convergent Pokemon just happen to resemble other, but have no connection to them.

Poltchageist is weird because Grass/Ghost is the most boring type they could have possibly went with (the sheer repetition of it + Polteageist is already Ghost) and makes it feel like a Variant, but its body plan is significantly different even when compared to how much the existing convergents changed and there are implications that it's actually the Sinistea equiv

That doesn't preclude sharing a type. If you want to apply real world logic, just like there are several mammalian groups which have independently adapted to an aquatic life, there could be different ghosts which have adapted to possessing human-made stuff. For all we know Poltchageist could be more related to Rotom than Polteageist. If you want to overthink it, that is, hehehe.

Split evo of Sinistea, I take it.

Sooo... It seems each of the DLC packs will have 2 evolutions of Galar Pokémon. Teal has Dipplin and Polchageist and Indigo has Archaludon and... hmmm. Split evo for Snom pls?

Matcha is green tea, Polteageist is black tea

The egg groupings might be awkward if they don't want it to breed with Polteageist, it might be Grass+Fairy or something like that

Official site confirms it's a convergent lookalike of Sinistea

Poltchageist’s Ability, Hospitality, is being introduced in the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. When a Pokémon with this Ability enters a battle, it showers its ally with hospitality, restoring a small amount of the ally’s HP.

It's listed after the Violet swords Paradoxes and before the Scarlet beast Paradoxes

Lol I was so excited when I recognized what the repair method was referencing. My partner is into pottery making and I learned about this method from an exhibit at our school. Made me go Iunderstoodthatreference.gif

Just caught a shiny Gulpin while playing through Emerald. My shiny luck in the Hoenn games is off the charts.

Finishing the first of my two replays, Pokemon Crystal on 3DS Virtual Console. Giving my Eevee all those dang haircuts was worth it for Espeon, he sweeps 3/4 Elite Four with Psybeam and Shadow Ball. Crystal is a really great game for the most part, but having to grind after Blackthorn with most of your wild Pokemon options being ground/rock types was not good game design lmao. I'm debating whether or not to soft reset for a legitimate Shiny Celebi in Ilex Forest.

Pokemon Y I am doing a static only run, I have my starter Frogadier, the Ivysaur I got from Sycamore, my Amaura from the Fossil and now Mega Lucario.

If Famiboards did top ten GOTY, I think Pokemon SLEEP would be in my top ten, and it might actually be up high.

It's just enough of a motivator to get me to prioritize getting good sleep more, which means it has made a significant positive impact on my life.

Yeah I’ve stuck with it too, though it’s not super engaging on its own, knowing I need to either wait to go to bed or need to go to bed soon in order to get the bonus has actually helped my sleep schedule no end.

Almost bailed on my Emerald run because I couldn't figure out where to grind, but then I remembered the match call feature, and have just beaten gym 7. Gonna see this through to the end!

I launched Pokemon TCG Live for the first time in a while to be informed of a new type of pokemon called Pokemon-EX which are expressively not to the same as Pokemon-EX.

The slightly different graphical font did not make this point any less perplexing, only funnier.

Blue Moon Falls has a new guide how on Pokémon color palettes work in the Pokémon Stadium games, which includes an explanation and calculators, plus a gif archive of idle animations from those games.

Thanks for sharing. I love these deep dives on interesting minor mechanics.

Transferred a bunch of Pokemon up from Gen 6 and 7 into HOME today. I still need to go through my Gen 3, 4, and 5 games, but I figured I'd bang out the stuff I had hanging around ready to go first. Ended up being 9 boxes of various shinies, legendaries, mythicals, and ribbon bearers.

Took a quick stop at the ORAS Contest Hall to finish off getting a few ribbons on some genies, so I can at least use them in style if I have to.

New DoctorSwellman video on speedrunning Emerald's Battle Frontier. Kind of a nutty speedrun, hard to believe it's doable.

Worth reading the notes from Werster and Exarion if you're curious:
