Platinum previously edited their website leaving only Nintendo in the copyright of Astral Chain, and as they confirmed in later interviews, it was because Nintendo became the sole owner of the series.

But on the Nintendo website and in the eshop, the copyright remained outdated (understandable, considering that the amount of data handled by Nintendo in its store is much larger than the platinum listing on its website). Well, it seems that they have already fixed that outdated data, and currently in the eshop and on the nintendo website it appears as the sole owner of Astral Chain

https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/astral-chain-switch/

It was really known that Nintendo was the only owner for a long time, but I wanted to share this curiosity that they have also updated it on their website and eshop.
When's the earliest we can expect to see Astral Chain 2?

June: Stinky Horse Game
June almost always has a Mario spinoff

2018 was Tennis
2019 had Maker
2020 probably should've been Paper but COVID
2021 had Golf

I have no idea what the 2022 one would be but it'll most likely have one

at the very least June will have something more than a mediocre sequel to an unnamed casual game. June is a prime month, why put Kirby in May when April is the anniversary and June is a better sales month

interesting, i had noticed that the copyright notice on the eshop hadn't changed when the page on PG's site did.
i'm still curious what lead to this exchange of ownership. if it really was so that PG could publish w101 on other platforms, it's truly one the worst deals ever in gaming. to exchange the rights for a million selling new IP with a game that mega-flopped twice on 4 platforms is just not a smart move.
Idk, maybe it was that Nintendo approached them to develop a new IP for them and it's a Nintendo franchise since it was greenlit?

But if it was in exchange for W101 I wouldn't think of it as something that dumb tbh. I don't think Platinum would have the money needed to make a game like Astral Chain by themselves if they wanted it to be their property some day. Now, while W101 sold really badly, it's a way lower budget game, so if they want to make a sequel or just port it again they can.

This is what the Switch needs
-good Pokémon games

Excellent use of the picture unrelated meme

Here is my new list

January: Pokémon Legends
February: Mario + Rabbids 2
March: Triangle Strategy
April: Advance Wars 1+2
May: Kirby
June: Stinky Horse Game
July: Splatoon 3
August: Fire Emblem
September: Zelda Wind Waker + Twilight princess HD Switch
October: Bayonetta 3
November: Metroid Prime HD
December: Xenoblade 3
Pretty reasonable (and whether conservative list tbh, as I expect BOTW 2 next year lol).
I'm just curious, why do you think M+R will come so early in the year?

Any sales for Age of Calamity?

Don’t want to pay 60. 30 or less is my sweet spot, probably too soon, Hyrule Warriors took a long time to drop to below 30 for a short time

Aonuma talked about during the development of BotW it was thought about having Zelda playable.
I think it would be an awesome ideia both to have a co-op mode(online and/or split screen). But with the trailers it seems like Link and Zelda split.
I think another great possibility is having a Link and a Zelda campaign (like you have a Leon and Claire campaign in RE 2, or how you can play as either Kung Lao or Liu Kang in MK Shaolin Monks and its co-op is great!).
Link's campaign in Hyrule and the skies above; Zelda's campaign in the depths below. Progress in each impacts the other (activating something underground that unlocks a new location in the sky?), with the two reuniting for the final boss encounter.

things that will never happen 😥

I mean, let's be honest. Triangle Strategy isn't big enough to carry the entire month of March. It's no Monster Hunter.
Absolutely. Nintendo didn't trust Octopath or Bravely II to carry months on their own either; they were joined by Captain Toad and 3D World respectively.

Maybe EPD Tokyo brings out a NES Remix port to complete a funny set of coincidences? I do think they'll have something else in March and/or April for sure though.

Thank you! Maybe I should buy the 3ds games instead? I have heard a lot of good things about Planet Robot, I can probably buy it cheaper than Star Allies. I wanted to revisit / visit a few Kirby games before the Forgotten Country arrived.

Yeah if you haven’t played Robobot I’d definitely make that the priority if you want to play a modern Kirby game. I still liked Star Allies though and if you have local friends to play with, it’s not a bad pick at all.

If you have NSO and haven’t played Super Star, that’s still far and away my favorite Kirby game. No joke, I’ve beaten that one over 20 times to 100% completion.

Part of being a Nintendo fan on the internet is to always come up with worst case scenarios to protect yourself from disappointment. Of course, that won’t stop you from being disappointed anyway, even if things turn out better than expected.

I'm just being realistic

it's not that they could make astra chain 2 on their own without nintendo, but they would profit in the long term by having partial ownership of the IP.

Aww man, I don't want to have to wait until the final boss to see them interact again! They spent all of BotW separated. I'd imagine that they reunite at the midpoint, or something. Every Zelda has some huge midpoint event (ex: turning into adult Link in OoT, Dark World in LttP, Zelda's sacrifice in TP), so I could see that happening in the middle of the game rather than the very end. Idk what would replace that gimmick if Zelda and Link are with each other again tho and can't impact each other's actions from afar. Maybe by then the whole world would be opened to us!

Like MondoMega said, Nintendo didn't trust Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default 2 to carry those months alone. BD2 released on the same month as 3D World Deluxe.

March is a very important month for Nintendo. Nintendo knows they need a March game that has broad appeal and sales potential.

March 2018 = Kirby Star Allies (Sales were 1.26 million in 15 days)
March 2019 = Yoshi's Crafted World - I think this reached over a million? Feel free to correct me.
March 2020 = Animal Crossing (sales reached over 31 million units worldwide)
March 2021 = Monster Hunter (sales surpassed 7.5 million units worldwide)

Triangle Strategy isn't going to cut it.

June could be Mario + Rabbids. I actually can't think what other Mario spin-offs could be due. Maybe we'll get something strange and new, like a LEGO Mario videogame.

Or maybe June 2022 gets the next 3D Mario as a big surprise for everyone. That'd be fun.

I guess I wandered into Kirby guessing when responding to a post last night.

It’s gotta be March or April. I’m leaning March.

January - Arceus
Feb - Port (Metroid Prime??) or Rumored Casual game
March - Triangle Strategy, Kirby
April - Advance Wars
May - Splatoon 3
June - Mario and Rabbids 2

Yoshi has reached over 2m so far per Install Base.

March is an important month because it is the end of Nintendo's FY calendar. They don't tend to leave it empty on a major 1st party title other than this year's which had Monster Hunter.

Last known number for it was 2.09m, yes. The worst-performing of Nintendo's major Switch era March launches (better than the last numbers we had for Mystery Dungeon DX, 1.43m, but Animal Crossing was clearly the real star that March), perhaps below Nintendo's expectations too, but decent enough seeing as they seemingly had nothing bigger ready to launch in that period.

Nintendo being disappointed in Yoshi's performance would suck, since there's that rumor they were disappointed in Mario Maker 2's performance. I just hope they haven't lost faith in the 2D platformer sub genre, but they haven't come back to it since 2019. (Unless we count Metroid Dread lol)

Their 2020, 2021, and 2022 platformer output was all 3D platformers. (Mario remasters and soon 3D Kirby)

There are 2D platformers in the works at EPD 8 and EPD 10, judging by hiring calls. I doubt they've dropped the genre entirely. 2 million plus for Yoshi is fine, Kirby Star Allies did over 3 million, so did DK. Plus, NMSB U DX has cleared 10 million.

Personally it wouldn't surprise me if we see another wave of 2D platformers on Switch - either a new Yoshi game or a Woolly World port; a new Wario Land; perhaps EPD's DK is 2D; and we'll certainly see some form of new 2D Mario.

After the oversaturation of 2D platformers from Nintendo in the 3DS / Wii U era, i'm almost happy they've been taking a bit of a backseat this gen.

They'll never get rid of 2D Mario; and while they can't look to Mario Maker 2 for the success they wanted, NSMBU DX is doing fine for itself. They view it as evergreen after all.

There are teams in Kyoto and Tokyo working on 2D platformers; we know that for a fact. What those game(s) turn out to be is more up in the air, but considering DK's theme park expansion and plausible film over the next few years... ;)

idea for the march game: animal crossing 2
Wild World on DS NSO confirmed.

Kirby has a pretty good chance for release at the end of March 2022. Nintendo has had some kind of notable franchise release to mark the end of the Fiscal Year since the Switch released.

March 2017: BotW
March 2018: Kirby Star Allies
March 2019: Yoshi's Crafted World
March 2020: Animal Crossing: New Horizons
March 2021: Monster Hunter Rise

- Spring does not strictly mean after March. Nintendo previously announced Crafted World as a Spring 2019 release in the Sept 2018 Direct, and later dated it for late March in the Feb 2019 Direct. Something similar could happen with Kirby, currently given a Spring 2022 release window.

- I don't think Nintendo really considers Advance Wars Reboot to a be a huge release for them, and could conceivably release close to other bigger titles, similar to how it was positioned originally soon after Pokemon D/P and on the same day as Brain Age. This point is dependent on whether the April 8th date actually holds considering its not been officially announced by Nintendo in marketing.

- Another point: Advanced wars has been given no marketing or release date in Japan. It's more likely Kirby would be pushed for Japan in that time frame instead.

Given how packed their 2022 currently is, with likely more 1st and 3rd party titles to be announced, it would be surprising to only have Pokemon: Legends Arceus be their only bigger first party release for the first four months.

I’m 50/50 whether we’ll get a 2D or 3D Mario next year to launch around the Mario movie. A new 2D game seems more overdue.

Zelda is going to fall down a hole at the start of BotW 2 and the rest of the game is going to be about rescuing her. The game will be great all the same, but it's not going to have co-op or a bigger role for Zelda in general. I remember entertaining that hope back before the launch of BotW, because one of the earliest examples Aonuma gave about rethinking the conventions of the series for Zelda Wii U was "the idea that you had to play alone." Maybe they did think about it during development, but it obviously amounted to nothing (unless Wolf Link counts, I guess).

January: Pokémon Legends
February: nothing (maybe a NSO game? Like Tetris 99)
March: Kirby ATFL, Triangle Strategy (west only)
April: Advance Wars 1+2
May: Casual game
June: Splatoon 3
July: Fire Emblem
August: M+R2
September: Bayonetta 3
October: another casual game, Zelda BOTW2
November: Metroid Prime Remaster
December: Xenoblade 3

I predict this as lineup.
My prediction is:

January: Pokémon Legends Arceus
February: more N64 NSO games, a new 99 game, and maybe Silksong?
March: Triangle Strategy, Kirby And the Forgotten Land
April: Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp
May: Casual stinker, Resident Evil Outrage
June: Splatoon 3
July: Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
August: Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Bayonetta 3
September: Xenoblade Chronicles 3
October: Metroid Prime Remaster
November: Sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Nintendo Switch Dane, Ring Fit Adventure 2
December: Nothing, DLC for Arceus. Of maybe new casual game like Tomodachi Life of Nintendogs.

Going further for fun purposes:
2023:
March: Super Mario Odyssey 2 (with Nintendo Switch Dane if it's 2023)
October: Metroid Prime 4: Resurrection
November: Mario Kart Next, Pokémon gen IX
Other 2023 stuff I don't have any clue what month would release:
  • Donkey Kong if it's not 2022
  • Brand new 2D Zelda or WW+TPHD
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons new expansion and major updates/Welcome amiibo-style repackage
  • Xenoblade 3 stand alone new story
  • New IP
  • Game Cube era game remaster/remake

Mario Maker 2 had these issues

-1. is that the overall reception took a beating with the online near release date. That was the conversation and it had some effect of its release
-2nd, the controls were not as smooth as the Wii U gamepad, the Wii U was the perfect device for Mario Maker, not a deal breaker but nevertheless, it still wasn’t the best way to play Mario Maker
-3rd, a lot of casual people don’t actually want to make levels. They just want to play a standard 2D Mario game. I couldn’t for my life get my little cousins to play Mario Maker creation mode. Just want to control Mario. Big uproar from the Nintendo community over New Super Mario Bros U DX, but that’s what they played entirely. And it looks like playing endless Mario Levels just didn’t catch on
-4th, great reveal and direct prior to release. I think Nintendo screwed the pooch on this game after release. Set back by needing to Improve online and playing with friends. But this could’ve been a good streaming game and yet, it died pretty quickly. The excitement from the first game felt more like a stroke of luck which really wasn’t. Mario Maker 1 was a great game and loved. Mario Maker 2 is a good game, but never really loved.

That’s my 2 cents on Mario Maker 2. Something about that game just always screams missed potential the most out of all switch releases.

June could be Mario + Rabbids. I actually can't think what other Mario spin-offs could be due. Maybe we'll get something strange and new, like a LEGO Mario videogame.

Or maybe June 2022 gets the next 3D Mario as a big surprise for everyone. That'd be fun.
Lego Super Mario game just has to happen some day.
I think new 3D Mario will be the huge march 2023 game.

Fingers crossed, but I'm feeling pessimistic about anything making 2022 given how quickly the lineup is filling in. I almost wonder if they would use a new 2D Mario as a launch year game for the Switch's successor, since like Mario Kart it's a series with no new entry in a long time yet has evergreen legs.

Yeah, I think Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a March 2022 game. But April wouldn't surprise me either. No way it's a May game, that would be Splatoon 3 (or June)

I'll always love 2D Mario (And 2D Kirby) but yeah, I'm glad they've been taking a backseat this generation. I'm lost a lot of interest in 2D Platformers in recent years, so the more 3D Platformers we can get, the better!

Personally I'm super happy Kirby is going 3D because I thought the formula was wearing thin after Star Allies.

I'm just wondering if Kirby's part of an overall trend from Nintendo we are seeing. I really miss DK and a new evolution of 2D Mario past the "New" style would be exciting.

Predictions:
2022:
January: Arceus
February: Hollow Knight Silksong
March: Triangle Strategy
April: Advance Wars, Kirby & the Forgotten Land
May: Resident Evil Outrage
June: Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope
July: Splatoon 3
August: Bayonetta 3
September: Metroid Prime HD
October: new Tomodachi game, Detective Pikachu 2
November: BOTW2
December: Super Mario Odyssey 2

2023
March: Ocarina of Time HD port
July: New Donkey Kong game
September: Fire Emblem Echoes: Genealogy of the Holy War
October: Dane Switch, Mario Kart X
Probably I'd pencil in Casual Stinker game around May or June or Splatoon 3 if it's not a July game. I still am willing to predict a Tomodachi game for next year too.

I think that if they had any sort of disappointed with Super Mario Maker 2 and Yoshi's Crafted World, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe brought every excitement back. It's a port of the worst selling 2D Mario game and it cleared 10m.
Kirby Star Allies did super well too.
If anything I think 2D platformers will just get more ambitious in scope so they can generate more excitement. Or rely heavy on multiplayer.
Switch has yet to get its 2D Mario. If Odyssey was the best selling 3D Mario and NSMBU DX did super well, I think the next 2D Mario will be more inventive and have some new multiplayer aspect too. Also maybe online.
