It’s weird that there’s no footage of the oil fields in the video of LA Laps.
There is a screenshot though:
MK8D_BCP_Los_Angeles_Laps_glide_rings.jpg

Excited for finally more new characters. While they are not really 'important' like tracks, I like the variety.
I am the most excited for finally a new MK tho. MK8 is great but I am excited for it to be 'done' so we can eventually get a brand new one.
I'll gladly take a smaller Track Selection for starters, if it means a new 'feel' of MK once more. With new character models, assets, vehicles, gimmicks, voice lines, Battle Mode, etc.
But yeah, excited for this batch, tho I just... don't like the Tour City tracks, they are so visually confusing compared to more normal MK tracks.

I'm honestly not looking forward to being restricted to like 32 tracks again.

I really hope they pull off a SSBU and bring back all 96 tracks with a new coat of paint + 32 new tracks. Charge us 70 dollars for it, I don't care. Considering how much that game could sell being a follow up to MK8, I'd say it's fair.

Chilllllll

But yeah I'd buy it. I'm a sucker. I just think a new Mario Kart is coming in the first year of the successor. Nintendo would be crazy(maybe dumb) to not have Mario Kart early in the next system's life. I don't know much about the size of the dev team for this DLC but I feel like it's low enough that they could be working on the sequel at the same time. We also don't know if this DLC is content complete or has been content complete for a period of time. I'd lean to the latter.

It is understandable, new games having notable less content is a big negative for many.
For me, I just value the 'new feel' more, I do not necessarily 'need' every Mario Kart, or Smash, or so, to be 'everything is here!', it feels a bit better, to me at least, when the games are more unique from eachother. New 'feel', either through actual movement, or new coat of paint, or, whatever.
So I do not personally mind at all if the next Mario Kart has 32 tracks at launch. Especially if they have some fun new gimmicks/characters and maybe a cool new mode.
Like, I'll take less content if it means each game sticks out more as it's own thing rather than the old ones becoming 'lesser version of the new', which is sorta how I feel about BOTW vs TOTK.

What would you guys think of the next MK being sort've like Lego 2K Drive? So like an open world/zone game with a bunch of set races and then missions in the vain of the DS. I really don't know how they could do an iteration on 8D without it feeling a bit disappointing (unless it at least matched the number of tracks), and that would be the best way to make it stand out imo. Even with more powerful hardware, I don't know how you get more graphically impressive than what we have now.

Mario Kart 10 will either be a full reboot (Nintendo Kart) or an Ultimate version (all tracks from every game plus new tracks, building on Tour/MK8D/BCP). Going back to normal would be a huge downgrade and potentially a hard sell for audiences.

I hear ya on the city tracks. Do you play Tour? If not, I promise you that Athens, LA, and Vancouver are all bangers. In their own ways they also feel less like traditional city tracks. Athens is almost entirely around the ruins of the Acropolis, LA is largely by the beach and oil fields, and Vancouver leaves the downtown core for the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Stanley Park's Lost Lagoon.
I don't play Tour, but I'd watched one or two variations of Los Angeles on YouTube when it arrived and it was the one I wanted to play the most at first haha
For Athens and Vancouver, I'd only seen promotional images, and that's it, I was saving the real discovery for MK8D!
My favourite at the moment is Amsterdam, which really surprised me in a good way, but I think the three that are coming are the ones I'm most looking forward to play based on what I've seen of them ! This has long been the case for Vancouver and Los Angeles, and more recently Athens :)

I think the next Mario Kart game is sure to sell very well, it will be more than 10 years since we've had a new one. A game with a new artistic direction and new ideas (new character models, new animations, new modes, new items, new driving gimmicks...) will be far enough away from MK8D to be appealing, it will not need to be excessive in terms of initial content.
That said, I hope that (at least) 48 tracks will become the standard for the base game, only 32 was already abnormal on Wii U.
The graphics don't need to be huge either, a new artistic direction will already conquer a lot of people.
I think we can really imagine a lot of things for the next Mario Kart.
Something that's a bit different and unique to the game, the same way as Double Dash did with dual drivers ?
More dynamic tracks ? That's already the direction taken a bit here with the roads changing at every lap, but I think they can go a lot further with this, especially if it's planned and thought for the game from the start (unlike here).
A "track editor" mode ?
More tracks based on the Mario games? Like what we had with Yoshi's Island.
An "All-star" game with more guests and their own dedicated course? Ideal for Smash Bros-style DLC promo! And the door for this is now open.
All that to say that, in my opinion, there are still a lot of ideas to explore with the series to come up with a new game that would work without having a Mario Kart 8D all over again.

Going from the screenshot I sent earlier today which actually contains another finish line and a set of the holographic chevrons and the footage we have for Los Angeles Laps, I have determined the route the track will take:

Red - Section 1 (Los Angeles Laps 1)
Green - Section 2 (Los Angeles Laps 3)
Blue - Section 3 (Los Angeles Laps 2)

That seems like very little overlap compared to the other Tour tracks.
there's just not that many routes in LA Laps for them to overlap and still cover all 3 major areas, unless this is going to be a 10 minute track

vancouver too, for what it's worth

That seems like very little overlap compared to the other Tour tracks.
That's just the nature of LA Laps as in Tour, each variant starts in a different location to each other and each cover a pretty separated area of the track so there isn't much overlap across all of the variants.

Just to help put into perspective how close Tour is to wrapping up new content, and since I was explaining it somewhere else earlier, here's a list of all 28 unreleased Driver IDs; the 10 that appear to be unused and the 18 that do have data prepared for use:

90% of my hype for this wave is the Vancouver Velocity remix.

That's been my favorite Tour music track since it debuted.

Tour update released. No notable datamining thus far; but on the surface the only notable changes are nerfing the best special items (coin box, mushroom cannon, boomerang) in multiplayer.

That's super helpful thanks! I understand dataminers have been furiously digging to see if any file changes happened with the system update today

There are very very minimal ID changes in this update; shocking! The MD gap got a single ID increase, and a few other existing tracks got a single ID increase too, to indicate their return in this last batch or Tours (Peach Circuit N, LA Laps 3 R/T, Paris Promenade 3 N).

I’ll wait for the map objects to be checked before making the call for good, but the wind down in new content is looking to be coming to fruition.

The interesting part about minimal ID changes is the fate of the mystery 3rd track. It seemingly isn't coming to Tour, so unless we get an 8 exclusive track (which I'm not expecting), we're probably looking at another surprise retro.

Makes the speculation a lot more interesting, there's a lot of possibilities. Do they go with a fan favorite like Airship Fortress? A snow themed track like Frappe Snowland or Rosalina's Ice World? Another GBA track like Yoshi Desert? Or just something completely random, like another 3DS track? Who knows?

There's a possibility that Moonview Highway IS the surprise retro track and Mushroom Bridge was kept, but I'm hoping not. I'm predicting DS Luigi's Mansion. It's iconic, there's a lack of DS tracks in the BCP, it's in Tour, it doesn't conflict with anything else in Wave 6 like a Bowser Castle or Airship Fortress would, and there's a Luigi's Mansion game releasing next year.

Wait where does this fit in with the datamined prefixes? Are you saying another Retro replaces the final mystery nitro track of tour that we’re presuming comes to 8DX? That’s big if so.

Seems like the speculated 3rd nitro for Wave 6 was scrapped? There's no such indication of one coming to Tour because there's no ID gaps or course objects to use for it. I guess it's time to speculate which retro track would replace it in Wave 6.

Yep, no new map objects. They DID however add some references to time trial ghosts; 'CreateGhosts', 'DownloadGhosts', 'DeleteGhosts', 'SearchGhosts'. That's the type of feature that makes sense to add when the game's content becomes more standardised than the current Tour format (which is what we're expecting for September; not a full immediate shutdown).

They also added a new road material type just for Piranha Plant Pipeline, 'Pipe'; so I guess this update was a necessity ahead of next Tour.

That's going to be extremely annoying honestly, that means most of the tracks that are gonna get picked online are gonna be old ones.
Just make it a SaaS game and sprinkle in content.

I’ll throw my hat in the ring and say we get Frappe Snowland. Gives us a 3rd N64 track and a snow track to coincide with the winter season. Slots into the 2nd spot of the Acorn Cup rather nicely.

I watch the trailer again, I'm not someone who absolutely wants big graphics, but the bare minimum hasn't even been done in the background here :

1688806858-mk.jpg

The same kind of thing happens on Koopa Cape, with the cartoonish simplistic trees next to the well-detailed shell full of reflective effect.

What bothers me a bit is not the overall graphic quality of the pass, but that it's inconsistent.
It's interesting to see that there were already graphic inconsistencies from wave to wave, then within a same wave, and now even within a same track !

I still think these tracks were added because it's easy to repurpose the models from Tour. Which is fine, these tracks add a bit of freshness to MK8. I do hope that we won't see these kind of visuals in MK9.

Perhaps there were more changes than we thought for the last waves, we were surprised by Moonview.

I think we can still be sure of Rome, Madrid (or MD at least), Piranha Plant Cove, the Pipe track, Wii Rainbow Road and either DK Mountain or Dino Dino Jungle.

But we could actually have SNES Vanilla Lake for a snow track, and GBA Bowser's Castle 4 instead of SNES BC. This would explain why there was a 3-star flag to separate the sections on GBA Bowser's Castle 4, whereas there are only 2 laps on Tour.
I'm well aware that SNES BC seems to have been designed for antigravity, but plans may have changed along the way, as with Moonview, even if it was already designed with antigravity in mind.

In this case, either the SNES track will disappear, or it will be Lake Vanilla.

How about Rome, Vanilla Lake 2, Dino Dino Jungle, Piranha Plant Cove

Madrid, Piranha Plant Pipeline, GCN Bowsers Castle, TBA

GCN Bowser won’t happen given that it almost certainly isn’t coming to Tour, and I dunno how else they’d end the BCP besides Wii Rainbow Road. There aren’t any other fitting retros.

What would that mean?
Cnsw_68 means a Booster Course Pass track which is the 8th track of the 6th wave. Every BCP track filename follows this naming convention and it actually follows the prefix datamine from Wave 1 - even after the shuffle! It lets us know what tracks were in what position before the shuffle. If Moonview Highway is Cnsw_68, then it was originally the final track in the pass which was also the same slot with a Wii prefix in the prefix datamine from Wave 1, which would mean no Wii Rainbow Road like most people speculated for the final track of the pass.

Oh hell no. If we get Midshroom Bridge instead of Rainbow Road I'm gonna be so annoyed.

I'm scared to check the internet for a few weeks if datamines find that Moonview Highway has the filename "Cnsw_68"

It's gonna get ugly I can feel it
It will be good to know either way, but yeah...I'm going to be disappointed if Moonview Highway has the filename with "68" in it.

I wondered if the datamined drivers have been there all this while, since it has not had the same visibility as the datamined courses. Even then, this is a very intriguing look.

Some unreleased drivers are expected like the remaining two coloured Mii suits and a Wendy Mii Suit, as well as the remaining colour variants for Toad, Birdo, and Yoshi. Part of me hope that there are some amiibo-related Mii suits like Diddy and Bowser Jr., who have amiibo but they don't have equivalents. After all, Mario Kart 8 has amiibo suits so adding compatibility for those could be helpful in a later Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass update. Only problem is that there are probably not enough room for them all, since there are Bowser Jr., Diddy Kong, Koopa Troopa, and Boo amiibo (4 in all, and you listed 3 unknowns) so they probably won't all get in, unless Boo amiibo were to unlock the King Boo costume.

The Madrid alt. is a curiosity I admit, since I am not sure what character would be spotlighted. I hope that one of the other two babies (Baby Luigi or Baby Daisy) gets in, even if they are unpopular choices per se. It would be nice because up till now they don't have any alternatives.

Thank you for reading.

Wait so mysterious Final Nitro is out for wave 6?
Technically we don’t know, but it doesn’t seem particularly likely.

Knowing what Moonview replaced will shed a lot of light. If it replaced a GCN track, then the prefix leak is bunk and the odds of it not existing shoot way up.

I love how Moonview Highway out of all tracks caused so much chaos. It's such a weird situation lol
It was such a pleasant surprise but also a chaotic one. We should find our answer when the wave drops in terms of slots to solve the mystery and form an idea on what is in Wave 6.

I'm kinda hoping that the SNES track was also canceled and replaced by another retro (3DS Bowser Castle), but I doubt it. SNES Bowser Castle 3 just doesn't seem all that exciting to me.

My ideal Wave 6 would probably look like this:

Acorn Cup:
  • Tour Madrid Motorways
  • DS Luigi's Mansion
  • GCN DK Mountain
  • Piranha Plant Cove
Spiny Cup:
  • Tour Rome Avanti
  • Piranha Plant Pipeline
  • 3DS Bowser Castle
  • Wii Rainbow Road
Both DS and 3DS get a new track, there's plenty of variety between the courses, and we finally get a new Bowser Castle.

I'll be a contrarian and say that I hope we don't get DS Luigi's Mansion. A Mushroom Cup level course in the very last wave, one that will inevitably reuse music from the Luigi's Mansion battle tracks just like how Waluigi Pinball reuses Wario Stadium, would feel like a buzzkill. The SNES Bowser's Castle 3 from Tour shows promise as a neat remix of an SNES course - we've never seen an SNES Bowser's Castle on a console Mario Kart since Super Circuit, and I just know it'll get a killer remix.
