Out of the list of Tomodachi, 2D Mario, DK, 2D Zelda, and Metroid Prime 4, it's a real shame that 2D Zelda is by far the one I'm least confident on in 2023/24.

I do think that sub-series has a future, and I hope it has a higher chance now with Tears of the Kingdom out and especially given Link's Awakening (2019) is one of the highest selling classic Zelda releases Nintendo have done. Nintendo have lots of options for the potentially large period between new open world titles from EPD 3, but hopefully new 2D Zelda figures in those plans.

I’m definitely leaning direct this month. Last 2 years they had games planned till august, but while no general direct they did keep June as their summer news month with the partner showcases which means they do still view it as an update window. This year the timing happened to work out that they have no major titles dated after july so it’ll be a full direct, tho it may still not be super first party heavy.

There’s a couple third parties that could show up too that aren’t dated like Baten Kaitos and Megaton Musashi wired

Matsuno asking for advice on banale adjustment IF they are remastering FF tactics

I have the feeling we are very close to see it

I can see the argument for weakening TG Cid, but I hope they don't (at least not much). Him being so powerful feels good in-game, and you can always just not use him if you want more of a challenge.

Prior to the February Direct, Nate said in his episode that if we don't get a lot H2 games, he expects a Direct in June. We literally got nothing für H2 besides Pikmin, and that is in July. I really hope that there's a General Direct this month.

I mean, in 2021 we knew about those games in June: Skyward Sword HD, Metroid Dread, Wario Ware, Mario Party Superstars, Pokemon Remakes (and Advance Wars was planned). In 2022, we knew that Xenoblade, Mario and Rabbids, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta and Pokemon would come out. I don't think they're just gonna go to zero first party games now. June/July is the perfect time to announce the titles for H2.

I’d say the odds are high. People don’t give the partner showcases of the last 2 junes enough credit tho, they were 2 or so in house games away from being top tier directs

I'm not going to lie, even though Nate said he hasn't heard anything yet.. I think most of us forgot about that.

An important question to consider is when and how they will announce the leaked TotK Zelda and Ganondorf amiibo; and what, if anything, that announcement will be in conjuction with. The Champion amiibo were announced alongside the first trailer for BotW's DLC back during E3 2017, but so far we have zero indication of TotK getting any notable post-launch content, so it isn't as simple.

Amiibo Direct
-New Zelda and Ganondorf Amiibos revealed
-Noah and Mio Amiibos shown off for the first time
-New set of Splatoon 3 Amiibos announced
-F-Zero: Amiibo Festival announced
-Super Smash Amiibros announced
-The Amiibo Movie revealed
-Rhythm Heaven: Amiibo shadow drop. You have to tap your Amiibo to the sensor to the beat of the music

No Stinky Horse amiibo??

I mean if it’s only got 2-3 Nintendo games they can hide those easily and other stuff would be hard due to the SGF overlap

I think there's an easy middle ground to let Cid still be OP but not be game breaking strong on recruitment, swap his recruitment with Meliadoul's. I know this would require some story rewrites, but it would balance the game a lot better and make Meliadoul's recruitment a "too little too late"

The other options would be to just not give TG Cid the best armor and one of the best weapons in the game for free on recruitment. Then his class and potential would still be ridiculous, but he wouldn't be "turn your brain off auto win" like he currently is.

At the end of the day I think it's fine to leave him OP as hell. It's not like he's a forced deploy for the rest of the game, if people want a more balanced experience they can just not deploy him.

It's interesting how much people are team September because insiders and rumors really shows that they can't believe in Direct themselves.

Team June - when we fight together, we're unstoppable.

Thoughts? I don't see Nintendo doing nothing this month, but I'd argue it's worth somewhat e entertaining.

well if software for the Switch sucessor is not ready for it launch, they will not do a general Nintendo Direct or even a Nintendo Direct for Switch games, most of Nintendo internal studios/divisions and it subsidiaries, are problaby hard at work on Switch sucessor launch games and doing the finishing touchs on the final games Nintendo is gonna release for Switch.

Even if games for the successor aren't ready, surely they'd have games ready for the Switch at this point, right? Nevermind the weird lack of first-party games after Pikmin 4, now would be the time to elaborate on 2H, I would think.

Also the latter half of the year being quiet leak wise makes sense, if it’s mostly internal Nintendo and maybe Metroid prime. Cause remember the leaks have a limited number of sources, and these are nearly exclusively NA/NOE:
1)localization (nearly completely sealed at this point, outside of outgoing it’s almost all salaried employees and they aren’t risking their career)
2) Q&A testers(doesn’t happen till the game is close to gold. Usually so far down the chain they won’t risk nintendo hunting them down, so occasionally we get them doing stuff anonymously but it’s rarely picked up. Last public instance this happened was the infamous smash ultimate leaks and that ended harshly for them)
3)marketing(they receive info at the last minute. Most common source of leaks but unlikely to occur more than a week or two out from announcement)

So anything new is unlikely to pop up till right before they announce it

It’s Nintendo and they moved all their development to a single platform. I don’t think we’re getting the mistaken droughts of the past, especially if there’s BC because there’s no longer development retooling or major changes, the next platform is likely to be iterative. this is also when we tend to get smaller and more experimental stuff that’s less likely to leak. Also when revivals and partnerships happen

H1 was way too dense for them not to have major stuff for H2. They could’ve have spread out a ton of this if that was the case

I've taken a pretty hands-off approach to this thread partially due to the stress of my new job but also in the interest of not asphyxiating natural discussions with my own attempts to drive the thread. However, I think that now is a good time to start our first discussion prompt, which I think aligns well with the current direction of the thread.

Prompt: Predict the Nintendo Switch lineup from now until December of 2024 in as much or as little detail as you'd like. The inclusion of expected reveal timing of games in the near future may be appropriate for discussion. Include as many first or third party games as you see fit. Don't worry about sharing all of your thoughts immediately or in a single post.

I'll provide my own response to this prompt soon, but I'd like to let the discussion start on its own and see some ideas flowing.

2023:

June: Everybody's Horseshit and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Wave 2 DLC
July: Pikmin 4 and Mario Kart 8 Booster Pass - Wave 5
August: Splatoon 3: Side Order DLC and Baten Kaitos 1+2: Remastered
September: Rhythm Heaven Switch and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet - Wave 1 DLC
October: F-Zero GX Recharged and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Remastered
November: 2D Mario platformer featuring Mario from Mario Bros. and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Wave 3 DLC
December: Mario Kart 8 Booster Pass - Wave 6 and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet - Wave 2 DLC

2024:
January: Kid Icarus Uprising: Remastered
February: Kirby eshop title
March: 2D Donkey Kong
April: Super Mario Baseball Switch
May: Detective Pikachu 1+2 and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: Remastered
June: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Remastered
July: Wario Land: Shake Dimension: Remastered
August: n/a
September: Super Switch launches w/ 3D Mario and crossgen Metroid Prime 4 as well as next gen updates for Tears of the Kingdom and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet
October: NDCube New IP
November: Mario Kart 10 w/ Booster Pass support and Pokemon Legends: Mew
December: n/a

I reserve the right to edit this after future announcements and pretend I was right the entire time.

Outside of Metroid Prime 4 I'm kind of expecting just one or two more big games for the Switch. And really that's 2D Mario and 3D DK if they are really happening. Other than that I think we're in small game/remaster territory. But that isn't necessarily bad. There can be some really cool and interesting games that Nintendo's teams can come up with.

He has 3rd party sources, that’s his speculations like any other here.

Internal EPD groups and what they are up to

EPD1 - Seemingly now a internal group, possibly a new IP for next system?

EPD3 - May been working on DLC for Zelda, either way their next game won't be ready for quite a few years.

EPD4 - launching their next game later this month. They are tent pole for EPD releases, their next title will be probably shown in 2024 as some kind of launch title for new hardware.

EPD5 - post launch support for Splatoon 3, working on Side Order. New Animal Crossing is in development, can launch around 2025 (?).

EPD7 - new IP? Tomadochi? Something else? We don't know. But it at least looks like they are not just support for external projects.

EPD8 - working on 2D and 3D game (2D being DK and 3D Mario). New 3D Mario at this point being launch title for new hardware, DK can show up sometime in 2024 as a normal Switch release?

EPD9 - Booster Course Pass, while new Mario Kart is in development for some time already. Year 1 of new hardaware?

EPD10 - launching Pikmin 4 next month, 2D Mario launching later in October - to be revealed this month.

I suspect there are already more EPD groups out there, but we have no idea to tell.

October: A new 2D Mario game and Metroid Prime 2 soft remaster
November: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door HD and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass DLC wave 6
December: Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope DLC wave 3

Thoughts?
