The announcement of Everybody 1-2 Switch is strange but atm it reinforces the idea that H2 can’t be empty. Otherwise, they would have released this game in September at least.

Idk if we will get a direct (I really hope so tho!) but I’m sure we will get at least a big game in September/October
They can’t stay without announced games after Pikmin 4

Hey everybody, just finished a riveting game of 1-2 Switch and thought I’d hop back on the forum

Did I miss anything?

I just love how little they care about Everybody 1-2 Switch. Usually they write something cute or make a little video showing off the game, not here. Even the pastel Joy con got a good tweet directly after.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a lack of care from a company regarding their own release before, and it’s hilarious.

Also, Nintendo either never even uploaded that BBA reveal trailer to Youtube, or they did but deleted it later. Weird.
They keep doing this a lot, sometimes they are deleting old Directs from YouTube, same with Ring Fit reveal, Switch Lite, Switch Presentation, LABO and so on. No idea why they are doing that.

Fuck it, Direct next week, they’re REALLY ashamed of this game, it’ll go like this:

  • the announcement isn’t even at an even hour, it’s a few minutes after, letting people focus on the new controllers for a minute instead
  • no mention of when gameplay will be shown, not attracting attention to the game

So…

Direct next week, the game gets a headline, but is buried amongst the rest of the announcements. They could do Wednesday, Tuesday like E3, or even Thursday, airing the same day as SGF a la last September
This isn't getting mentioned in any Direct, even in the likely event that there is one between now and its release. It's specifically the sort of game that tends to skip Directs completely.

Late but holy shit I cannot believe that Stinky Horse is actually real lol. Given the way it was announced (not even a trailer?) it seems like Nintendo really does not want to release this game. I can't wait to see how bad it is 😎

Anyway, on the topic of a hypothetical June Direct, this might be copium but I do feel like this announcement actually makes the chances of a June Direct greater. I mean, Nintendo may as well dump the rest of their minor announcements and trash like Everybody 1-2-Switch right before their next big marketing event, right? They sure as hell weren't ever gonna announce Stinky Horse in a Direct!

They gonna drop the most banger Direct in many years, exactly on the day Stinky Horse reviews go live, in a desperate bid to remind the public that they have other games coming too.

Personally I don't think we will be getting a general direct this June, they will be keeping things for September. I see them doing a partners showcase though given how well received was the one of last June. I would love to be wrong though.

Metal gear solid collection with no switch announce and the hypothetical P3R being announced on Xbox showcase makes me thing they are repeating past year persona ports situation.

That, or none of both games are releasing on switch, which would be sad. But then the fact that there is absolutely nothing aside from DLC announced to launch after Pikmin makes me doubt. We'll see.

Whatever, long live stinky horse😏

Edit: We may get a Pokemon presents with news for the DLC, detective Pikachu 2 and finally the classic games now that they are unavailable on 3DS.

Cba catching up on Legend of the Stinky Horse Direct doom, but hilarious they gave it the release window I picked for it. Out right after Zelda so we all ignore it.

Wonder when the official announcement will come.

Ok I read some posts

Gang

Folks

People

I haven't had my morning coffee yet but

Why the fuck are you surprised Nintendo announced an EPD 4 game through social media?

2018: Labo
2019: Ring Fit Adventure, Brain Training (with indieszero)
2021: Game Builder Garage, Big Brain Academy (with indieszero)

The only one that got a Direct reveal was Switch Sports. This isn't silly town or the Depths or Lorule or any of that nonsense; it's how Nintendo announce EPD 4 games the vast majority of the time.

Anyway, it hasn't changed the problem of zero dated games after Pikmin 4.

Kinda surprised by this mentality, honestly

I get being surprised that the game's releasing (I was thinking it would get silently canned) but plenty of people backed up it's existence

Best bet would be licensed content, most likely music. If they licensed a song's usage for a year of advertisements at a product's launch/reveal, it makes more sense to take the trailer down once sales have slowed down than keep paying renewals for the rights.

Wonder when the official announcement will come.

What? The game isn't available physically in NA or what? That's super strange, given it's easily available for 50€ here in Europe as a physical release.

On a side note, it seems it has been delayed. Amazon.de now shows September 30th as the date.

I've had my coffee! Thoughts:

  • we're getting 3 consecutive EPD titles across May, June, and July, in the system's seventh year on the market. I honestly can't recall another point in time that happened on Switch.
  • Everybody 1-2 Switch joins an interesting clump of 2023 titles which were likely all content complete in mid to late 2021: Metroid Prime Remastered, Fire Emblem Engage, Advance Wars Reboot Camp being the others. The latter was delayed because of the Ukraine war obviously, but the fact the other 3 were held back so long is interesting.
  • 2023 has at least one Nintendo published title every month of the year up to Pikmin 4 in July, and 8 titles launching in the first 7 months of the year.
  • we've also had 2 more systems added to NSO, plus DLC support for Splatoon 3, Fire Emblem Engage, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and Mario Kart.
  • the announcement strategy isn't unusual at all for an EPD 4 title. Lower key than Ring Fit Adventure and Labo, which got pre-reveal teases, but in keeping with stuff like Game Builder Garage, Big Brain Academy, and Brain Training. Miitopia and Switch Sports are the only EPD 4 titles to get Direct announcements.

So in sum: I'm not sure why people are reacting as if this is all that crazy. We had a thread on Fami back in February which asked why June was empty, and myself and other users wondered if it was going to be the month Nintendo snuck this game out.

Another point: 2023's software and services support is pretty much in line with previous years on Switch. There's nothing here that makes me think second half 2023 is going to be noticeably poor; I do think there'll be fewer second half titles than first half titles. Probably 5 releases (including Pikmin 4, not including eShop only titles) versus 7 releases in the first half.

I'm just happy that Nintendo is aware enough to simply drop Stinky Horse randomly and quitely via Twitter.

I know this sounds entitled ... but i really wouldn't want to see that game waste a single second in a Direct.

That's EB Games Australia, so the price is in Australian dollars, not burger bucks.

Oh so the official announcement you're talking of is the delay? Cause i've always thought that Australia was treated like EU/PAL, so if it's officially available as physical here, it should also be in Australia.

The official announcement I mean is the release date they have listed, lol. I've noticed some retailers put the end of August and September or even June as placeholder dates, but EB have this very specific date up now.

I think September is the actual new date. It was ... either July or August before on Amazon.de's detail page, now it reads September 30th and i got an E-Mail from Amazon also saying that the release date has changed and that it will release later.

Well, September 30th is a Saturday, so that day in particular is definitely not the final date at least. Amazon AU went for the December 31st 2023 placeholder to start, for the record. We'll see what happens in the end; if they're still targeting northern hemisphere Summer they'll probably say something soon.

That just tracks with what was originally leaked about the game: it's a game that reportedly play tested horrifically back in 2021/22 and it has a lower price than the original. It's not a very good game, and it's not something Nintendo have much confidence in.

On top of that, the angle Nintendo tried with 1-2 Switch was that the on screen wasn't gameplay wasn't all that important and that it was more about players looking at and interacting with each other.

I am actually hoping they reworked Everybody 1-2 Switch somewhat, as it was rumored to come out in 2022 but in reality it's probably just Nintendo sitting on it and it was completed way back when.
The price point and lack of fanfare makes me suspect they're just launching it largely as it was back then. The price point is even lower than the original, so Nintendo aren't fussed about generating much return on investment.

Yeah, that's the thing. Makes me wonder why they did not make this NSO Expansion Pack release as rumored, that would make better sense. Or just scrap it all together, this type of game did not likely cost huge amount of money. There are bunch of projects in EPD that did not make light of the day. It's even funnier when report from Fanbyte mentions that trusted employees from Nintendo were raising alarms that if it releases as it is , it would demage Nintendo's reputation as a software developer.

The sad thing is that a Jackbox-style game by EPD4 sounds actually really cool in theory, something near impossible to fuck up. Yet here we have Nintendo, truly pushing what is possible in the realm of video games.

Perhaps it underwent further play-testing internationally and got a better reception, but the release window and price point makes me think Nintendo recognise they can effectively bury any reputational damage beneath Zelda's acclaim. Zelda will keep dominating the conversation, and Pikmin 4 is out a few weeks later; it would be surprising if the latter didn't also generate a very positive reception. Pikmin 4's marketing campaign will probably also kick off before this game is even out, further distracting from it.

It's a quick cheap game, and they've done nothing to generate excitement or set expectations. I suspect Nintendo figured they may as well release it, claw some money back from it, and keep Switch ticking along with the regular monthly release cadence.

Stinky Horse announcement really sped up posting here, as it should. Before we arrive in 2 weeks for General Direct primetime.

It will be hilarious if Nintendo regularly tweet about Stinky Horse and turn it into a sleeper hit.

Also, UK pricing has it £15 below the original.

My retailer still has August as release date, but its's also a smaller retailer than Amazon. - But we should definitely hear more soon-ish about a date.

Baten Kaitos is a GAME exclusive in the UK for the physical release, which is annoying because that means it's £49.99 plus delivery. Given it's presumably a limited run, though, I am tempted to get a copy. It can keep my imported, en route copy of the FF Pixel Remasters company...

I am glad Odor Pony was finally revealed. I mean, I do not care about it at all, personally, but, glad it gets to not be lost media.

I do want a good ol "E3" Direct soon tho. To give us Pikmin 4 stuff, Splatoon/Pokemon DLC, and maybe Holiday Title(s) reveal.

I have not kept up with rumors or what is 'expected' in a while, is a Direct at all Likely 'soon'?

Reeking Stallion doesn't change much since it's releasing before Pikmin. Mini, Twitter or eShop Direct, whatever it turns out to be, we're not going from July 21st to September without some sort of idea about the schedule.

Going back to other Nintendo games, I still think that launching MP4 later this year makes sense considering how they dropped MPR out of nowhere and just like that early this year.

You know what makes sense to release next year and on Switch 2 though? Super Mario Odyssey 2 or a new 3D Mario. Unlike MP4 and TOTK, they never promised the next 3D Mario to launch on the OG Switch and it would be the perfect game to sell the most systems right from the start.

Completely agree!
They must release MP4 on switch, but they don’t have to do that with a new Mario game

We will see, but I also think that a new Mario 3D will be the launch title of the new system (with a remake of an old Zelda 3D imho)

I think they will. This is the lull before the next system and Nintendo doesn't act rationally all the time.

In chronological order: Pikmin 4, F-Zero Remaster, Kid Icarus Uprising Remaster, Metroid Prime 4, New-New Super Mario Bros.

But I know, I know, Nintendo will stop making games and become a tire manufacturer instead.
They’re not gonna spend two months after Pikmin having zero dated games
Wouldn't Nintendo's return to GamesCom be a good time to position a Direct?
