Makes sense, Sony is going to have to start directly competing against Nintendo at some point. Nintendo is still on a roll right now so denying games for the Switch will at least allow for system cross-purchasing.
Kinda reminds me of Nintendo securing those Asano HD2D games for awhile as exclusives before they started to recently expire and release on other platforms.

I wonder if FF9R is exclusive if Sony will try to indefinitely keep it on the PS console bar PC, much like with FF7R?

Would just go to show how much they value mainline FF.

Apparently FF9R may be a PS exclusive.

This is coming from the known Persona/Atlus insider.

Jesus, a non rumor is spread fast like there's no tomorrow.

They are not vetted on Era and the thread is locked. On top of that, they are not sure that it's Sony exclusive, they said "Sony written all over it". They also say it's 2 years away, how the hell are they sure? This person's track record is just P3 remake btw.

From the little that was talked about be leakers FF9 did not at all seemed like multi years in dev remake

Also 2 years a way seems a lot for a gamenthat was leaked on the nvdia leak and basically all came out 1 max 2 years

Thread was closed because they wanted to keep said discussion in the original thread said post came from.

As for the insider, I guess we got to wait and see like every other insider.

I wouldn't put too much weight on the FF9 rumor. Not only from the source, but how things pan out. Remember when MGS3 remake was exclusive? Things change and if its years away who even knows.

Square Enix leaks are typically correct, at least as far as knowing certain things exist and getting a general idea for them. I don't recognize that user, but from what has been leaked previously, the FF9 remake is not a small effort, it was mentioned to be similar to Trials of Mana. It's probably also still a ways out. It's not hard to believe that it will skip the Switch, regardless of exclusivity agreement or not. I already assumed it was. Switch 2 should be out by the time FF9R is releasing, or nearby anyway, so if there is no exclusivity agreement, then it probably hits Switch 2 not the base Switch.

I think on the contrary, if you tell me of a FFIX remake with a budget in the range of Trials of Mana, I would think first of a Nintendo exclusive title.

Why they choose IX and not VIII or X that are more popular and adult-like characters, more suitable for what Sony want for their audience? IIRC, IX was made to capture the nostalgia of early NES titles, it was always seen as more young audience title.

Yes me too, also i always had the perception that Sony only cares about FF7, and maybe X

But to be fair a Trials of Mana 9 remake is not a more then a 1 year exclusivity at most, i dont Sony have involvment with 9 remake beyond that possibly

Even if they are leaving the Japanese market behind.

Final fantasy 7 remake is going to be released on everything after all 3 parts are out, i sometime wonder how that terrible idea got founded that thankfully no one will ever do again.

And I liked FF7 remake, but if you proposed to me a 3 parts remake of any game I would ask for a walfare check

There was a post earlier in this thread referencing a comment I made about gaming presentations not being entertaining anymore. I meant to reply to it but then forgot and just remembered now lol. Too lazy to go find it but anyway...

I actually don't miss most of the skits and the crazy non-game stuff from previous Directs all that much but I'm very much with @Raccoon in thinking that these presentations often feel cluttered with as many announcements as possible. The pacing is snappy, I guess, and I guess there's a higher chance of seeing something you're actually interested in. But I do miss the times when exciting announcements got a little bit of a mini-presentation within the Direct. The Star Fox Zero stuff at the beginning of the E3 2015 Digital Event is maybe a bit of a bad example because of the final product but I don't know. Shit felt like a big deal. If I want a series of trailers I can just put YouTube on autoplay. Seeing Miyamoto pop up to talk about Pikmin Bloom and then show Pikmin 4 was like remembering simpler times.
Thoroughly agreed. I think "skits" have been at their best when understated (think the bananas, Miyamoto's vacuum, and more recently Doug Bowser's introduction), but slowing down to showcase developers was really special. Kit and Krysta say that there was a general shift away from having developers show their work (with the reasoning, if I recall correctly, that "their job is to make the games, not market them"), but even still I think Directs would benefit from a slower pace and stopping to share enthusiast-oriented information sometimes. A big part of what made Miyamoto advertising Pikmin Bloom engaging to me was his perspective on the game design of the app; I'd very much like to have more moments like this. Even if not shared by a developer on camera, some exposition on the creative intentions and design choices would really excite me. E3 2014 was full of segments like this.

Yeah, I've turned around a bit on this, even though I understand the reasoning that it's not a developer's job to market the game. These segments don't have to be super long but if nothing else they help to pace the presentation and give these games some room to breathe.

I would love this again, problem is that if anything is more than 2 minutes long people start to complain and want to move to another thing, which is really sad. They just want to see 50+ games, and maybe handful of them are actually good. Another thing is that people very often say now that "Nintendo don't want to show their devs" which is just flat out lie.

That's my favorite part, considered a reliable source because they leaked another game... which has also yet to be officially confirmed or announced.

They are not vetted, Sony ain't moneyhatting a FF9 remake. And they say it's 2 years away, how could they "see" a game that's 2 years away? Total bullshit.
Not commenting on the veracity of the rumor one way or another, but
1. Not coming to Switch =/= moneyhatted by Sony
2. We see footage from games that are years out all the time lol

They literally said "sony written all over it" about the game, indicating system exclusivity. How could they see it as a Playstation only game when there's at least 2 years of development left? Could have a Switch 2 port.

I think JRPGs on switch are the most likely 3rd party games to get me excited. Dragon Quest III HD will be an instant purchase for me, assuming it comes to switch. It seems obvious that it will, but I couldn't find any confirmed platforms.

Persona 3 Remake will be interesting. I sunk a bunch of hours into Persona 5 Royal on switch, so I imagine P3R will be a similar experience. Really looking forward to seeing what it looks like... I've never played any version of P3, so maybe I should try out P3P soon.

We need a plumber. 2D Mario holiday 2023 confirmed.
here your holiday game, brand new 2D Mario or the rumored 2D/3D Donkey Kong game together with Metroid Prime 4, with brand new 2D Mario or the rumored 2D/3D Donkey Kong game releasing a week before Black friday and Metroid Prime 4 on early octobre

I'm really hoping Persona 3 Remake is coming to Switch. It's been rumoured to be PlayStation and Xbox but nothing so far for Switch.

I think P3R being announced at Xbox, then getting another trailer at the Nintendo Direct (just like P3-5 announced at Xbox then confirmed for Switch at the Partner Showcase) is a very possible scenario.

Possibly finally seeing the new vision for 2D Mario and seeing Metroid Prime 4 after years of its announcement is what would put my hype to the roof tho.

Got a marketing email exhorting me to buy the Pokémon SV DLC, saying that my adventure is just getting started and that now the real fun begins. Wouldn't be surprised to see a Pokémon thing next week.

My guess is Switch first will get Soul Hackers 2 port. P3R will be PS5/XSX for a while before receiving a Switch port, possibly in 2024, before the successor launches.

The big Atlus game for Switch I think will be that VanillaWare's "biggest project ever". Should be at the Direct closest to us.

I like this kind of stuff. Didn't pre-release material for Metroid Dread feature Sakamoto? Not in the Direct, but I think they had videos with him talking about the series. Obviously, they did Creating a Champion for Breath of the Wild.

I'd welcome more opportunities for stuff like that outside Directs, but segments like this - even if it's say 60 seconds - humanising the creative process and showing it to us really elevated that 2017 presentation. I'd like to see that return in some form.
