Speaking of that interview...
It's the best way to play this gen of consoles for a lot of people, especially during the first two years of their existence when you couldn't buy them. You know what else was a terrible choice?
The Series S. An absolute albatross of a console that's been doing nothing other than warming store shelves and holding back their devs, and possibly third party ones too, considering a number have complained about it.
In theory, yes. It's the best way to play this gen of consoles for a lot of people, especially during the first two years of their existence when you couldn't buy them.
Somebody posted that they bought one two minutes ago. I bought one before eventually buying a Series X. Lots of people have them.In theory, yes.
In practice, no one's buying the pieces of shit. They've been consistently in stock since mid-2021, and no one cares.
Post numbers then. Significant chance they're under the fucking Wii USomebody posted that they bought one two minutes ago. I bought one before eventually buying a Series X. Lots of people have them.
Dont agree at all. I have a high end PC, switch, PS5, and a series S. I can certainly afford a series X but i dont need it. I play mostly sports games with friends on the S. Thats just my use case. There is a whole market of people who cant afford $500 but can afford $300. They get to experience these games these new games (obviously there hasn't been alot) because they got the series s.You know what else was a terrible choice?

Yeah, cool he whipped himself on video but what does it change for us? I'm starting to regret buying series X day one. All I've been playing on the console were games from xbox one/360 or indies. I like indies, but for the love of God, I didn't buy "the most poweful console" to play pixel art games. I had so much hopes after the reveal trailer, but here we are 3 years after launch.I’m way too old to argue with someone about what box they play on, but as someone who got a Series X on day one and am a GPU subscriber, Phil just kind of throwing up his hands and saying wait for Starfield isn’t exactly a great message.
This is what I do, it's definitely my favorite way to play games that aren't on Switch. Great for trying out flavor of the month games that are usually on gamepass too.I am enjoying my series x very much personally but I usually play third party games on the console aside from gears and now bethesda i generally dont have much interest in the games by xbox game studios. plus i also have a bad history with sony fucking me over on multiple occasions so i have no interest in using a ps as my console for third party games
I know more people with a Series S than with a Series X. In fact, i barely know anyone that owns a Series X.In theory, yes.

I imagine a lot of this attitude is posturing for the ABK acquisition. Making themselves look like the ever pitiful, always third place platform owner. He doesn't believe himself they can compete against sony and nintendo
Not a good strategy if you ask me. A weak looking company doesn't give any confidence.I imagine a lot of this attitude is posturing for the ABK acquisition. Making themselves look like the ever pitiful, always third place platform owner.
That's what the courts want to see. An excuse to make themselves look deserving of this acquisition. That they aren't the big bad corp who's going to monopolize everything. Thats not how you market to consumers, but to the courts. Not a good strategy if you ask me. A weak looking company doesn't give any cOnfidene.
I imagine if the merger falls through, there are going to be some very awkward conversations behind closed doors. Especially if Starfield doesn't set the world on fire.Xbox can operate at a loss for a long time thanks to MS’s deep pockets, but I don’t know how much longer Phil has at the current rate.
I mean usually when a company has a division that is losing them money, it's doesn't wind up good for that division......Xbox can operate at a loss for a long time thanks to MS’s deep pockets, but I don’t know how much longer Phil has at the current rate.
As @Mer.Saloon said, it’s pandering to the courts, not the consumers. All things considered, they can tank a bit of PR loss much better than the failure of a 70 billion merger. Not a good strategy if you ask me. A weak looking company doesn't give any confidence.
A lot is definitely resting on Starfield right now.I imagine if the merger falls through, there are going to be some very awkward conversations behind closed doors. Especially if Starfield doesn't set the world on fire.
There’s no chance of MS scrapping Xbox for the foreseeable future. Gaming is one of the most lucrative businesses right now, any company that can afford it will be keeping their fingers in the pie.I mean usually when a company has a division that is losing them money, it's doesn't wind up good for that division......
Yeah. The last guy who had a massive blunder in his hands (Peter Moore) left the company as soon as he unfucked the situation.Xbox can operate at a loss for a long time thanks to MS’s deep pockets, but I don’t know how much longer Phil has at the current rate.
Most of the folks I game with are on Xbox, so I’m kind of stuck. However, I’ll probably wait and see before renewing my GPU sub in SeptemberYeah, cool he whipped himself on video but what does it change for us? I'm starting to regret buying series X day one. He sounded so defeatist at the end. He doesn't believe himself they can compete against sony and nintendo. Doesn't inspire confidence in me. I miss the good 360 days. Im starting to think this brand is not for me anymore. I dont care about subs and cloud, I just want quality games.
That's just a Peter Moore thing. Unfucked XBOX, left. Unfucked Liverpool FC, left.Yeah. The last guy who had a massive blunder in his hands (Peter Moore) left the company as soon as he unfucked the situation.
I don't agree. $500 is a lot of money for a lot of people for a device that is primarily used for playing video games. The Series S brings in a lot of people who may want to play video games but also don't care about having a top-of-the-line rig.You know what else was a terrible choice?

How can Complex Space Game change things for Xbox? It looks pretty niche to me.A lot is definitely resting on Starfield right now.
It's the big new Bethesda RPG that people are (likely unfairly) looking to become the next Skyrim. How can Complex Space Game change things for Xbox? It looks pretty niche to me.
I see. I’ve never fancied that either so I’m probably not the best judge of how successful it will beIt's the big new Bethesda RPG that people are (likely unfairly) looking to become the next Skyrim.

Again, I think the issue is mostly memory. It's 7,5 gb vs 13,5 usable on the series x with much less bandwidth. 6 gb difference. The concept of the Series S, i.e a cheaper cut down device, probably made more sense like 20+ years ago when the majority gaming audience was still teens/kids, and relied on parents who had minimal/no gaming experience who would just buy them the cheapest thing. At this point you have several generations of gamers, with a massive swath who are now gaming adults who also buy for their kids/families, and they have the disposable income to just go get the better console for themselves and others, rather than the weird cut down version that no one actually wants. Coupled with companies like Apple having conditioned people to go buy premium electronics rather than settling for something less, I think the viability of cutdown console models is increasingly limited. Anyone who is really that price sensitive, is not going to be buying in the early years anyway. They are buyers down the lines at which point they can just get the regular model in discount anyway.
We already saw this concept be increasingly unsuccessful in recent years with Nintendo, where they've attempted it with the 2DS and Switch Lite, and neither lit the world on fire. So it's unsurprising that the Series S is basically a failure when it means playing the games at substantially worse performance.

As far as I'm aware, Starfield is Xbox/PC only. Now I'm starting to think... When will Starfield launch for PS5? After this interview, I do think it's gonna happen.
Late 2024/early 2025 in my opinion, probably a definitive version with expansions and Creation Club content.
This is a weird take. How can Serious Dad Game sell 20 million copies? How can Complex Space Game change things for Xbox? It looks pretty niche to me.

GoW is a fairly simple action game with a relatable story. Starfield looks complex and a bit cold. Like I said in my follow-up post though, I'm not going to be the best judge because Skyrim etc. have never appealed to me.This is a weird take. How can Serious Dad Game sell 20 million copies?
It is, but that's my point. After this interview, with Xbox aknowledging their defeat, I think this super high budget AAAA game won't want to lose the opportunity of being released for PS5.As far as I'm aware, Starfield is Xbox/PC only.
Great idea, somewhat lacking in execution. Evidenced by all the games lacking performance modes on Series S, which is definitely noticeable regardless of TV.I don't think Series S is that bad of an idea ... the concept was a 1080p machine for people who don't care about 4K, not necessarily a cheapo console for cheapo console's sake.
If you don't have a 4K TV at home, paying all that extra for a Series X actually is kind of stupid.
Thats a thing ive been thinking a aboutI still think that MS would be in a better position as a purely software developer/publisher as they still haven’t managed to expand their user base since the early 360 days.
They really don’t know what to do and think that all it needs is to have the most powerful console to be the best selling hardware. intact that MS has been in the hardware business for nearly 2 decades and still hasn’t managed to organically build new game studios says allot about then
