Finding all Korok seeds in TOTK will allow you to fuse Hestu's golden shit to your sword.
Will be more OP than the Master Sword, adding another reason to find them all.

Genuinely one of my favorite parts of the game. You start to enjoy them more when you realize that you aren't meant to find them all in a single playthrough, though my goopy goblin gamer brain makes it hard for me to not want to find them.
Yeah I guess there's a difference in approach that can really affect how one views Korok seeds

I always treated them as something cool to find while exploring and a way to break up the pace a little. I'm not really a completionist so I never really felt the urge to collect them all. The reason there are so many of them is just so that there's something to find in nearly every bit of map

So I lost the last 4 days of my life to Nintendo's magnum opus Advance Wars

What's the latest news about this obscure videogame that you're all discussing

Weird Nintendo are sending it out to die immediately after Advance Wars this way but whatever, I guess they know people will be too busy with Advance Wars to play this niche game right

I don't hate Korok seeds but I don't like them either. It's virtually impossible to have 900 unique and fun puzzles so after you've done like 12 they become annoying and repetitive. Likewise I hate how they're basically required to upgrade your inventory space so I hope, nay pray that that's not the case again. Give them a better purpose, like maybe a quest centered around rebuilding Korok forest or a new Korok forest somewhere else, and drastically cut down the number of them.

As for inventory space, let me buy more space with rupees not Korok seeds.

I heard Nintendo is going to coat TotK cartridges with a new flavour.

Only one flavor will do...

If we're talking about Era we should know at this point that everything that Era hates ends-up becoming a great seller.
it's not just Era, it was a lot of places. searching Zelda shit on youtube and whatnot you got heads complaining about the marketing, even some nintendo channels. with the final trailer, there was a lot of "we're finally excited!" and shit like that. not that any of this was going to impact sales, of course

So it seems that (as I thought) the icon in the underground map can be the malice hole

Let’s hope it’s seamless

I don't think Nintendo is asking of us to collect 'em all. There are so many because the map is very large. You don't want to travel too long before you'll be able to attain the next one needed for expanding the slots.

I'm a completionist by nature, though I don't mind making an exception in this case, as I did with Breath of the Wild. :p

I love that commercial footage of using 2 glued minecart rails to pass an obstacle. One of my issues with BotW was that there were no real obstacles in the overworld that you couldn't just easily climb or paraglide over. A lot of the sky islands seem to be set up in a way where you are forced to use your abilities to find different ways to travel from one island to the next. I just hope that this sort of navigational puzzle solving will show up on the surface and underground.

I know they're not asking me to collect them, but their primary purpose, expanding you're inventory space, shouldn't be what's tied behind them. Finding a few of them is no big deal, but expecting the player to track down 650+ or whatever the amount is, just to have a fully unlocked inventory is absurd. Thus hopefully inventory expansion is not a part of the seeds again.

Also if I did collect them all I'd be pretty annoyed if all I got was a literal lump of poop. It's funny or whatever sure, but if you're gonna have collectables you need the foresight to know players will collect them all so something more substantial would be welcomed. It doesn't need to be massive just give the people who did do that some sense of accomplishment beyond just a useless trophy in your inventory. Especially considering it's such a insane feat to collect them all.

Thing is, does the player need to get a fully expanded inventory? That's where inventory management and overall in-game progression comes in, because if one makes it further and further into the game, the more durable the weapons get, and therefore less slots are needed. I think Nintendo struck a delicate balance here. The beauty is that there's freedom for those who want to get more-than-necessary out of the game, and those who don't want to be bothered.

FWIW, only 441 of the 900 Korok seeds are needed for full inventory. I agree with you that that is too many though.

The problem with giving a more substantial reward for collecting all 900 seeds is that many more people would then feel compelled to get them all, which is not a fun endevour. I think the golden poop is funny personally.

Nintendo didn’t design Korok seeds for players to get all of them. There’s massively diminishing returns on them, and Hestu’s gift was clearly a joke. They’re there to provide something tiny to catch your eye in a massive world that doesn’t dictate your path, and they were effective at that.

One mistake regarding them was having them be a large part of the 100% metric. I’d argue there should be zero value for finding them after a certain number honestly - ie. no further contribution to 100% and no additional skill slots after finding half 1/3 of them for instance. They could reward the player with some consumable for the remainder like diamonds if they must.

Oh? For some reason I thought they still unlocked slots until the end.

The player doesn't need anything in BOTW, but exploring shrines or the overworld and repeatedly coming across "Your inventory is full" is not fun. Even moreso given that there's no permanent storage for weapons, so anything you find but don't want to use or despawn for some reason must continually take up space in your inventory. It's all around just a bad system, and one of the games genuine faults. I'd much rather have a NPC who you can talk to who keeps upping the price of inventory expansions via rupees like the infamous packing guy in Pokemon Arceus, or preferably go the route of Skyward Sword where you can find and buy more pouches.

Also on the note of weapon storing/weapons in general, I hope you can just buy the Amiibo weapons again once you've tapped them once. I ordered two more Zelda Amiibos, and they arrived today, and it took 20 loads of my save file just to get the Sword of the Six Sages.

There are a myriad of options for what they could have provided without making it too substantial imo. It could be some secret extra memory, that could be watched on YouTube if you don't want to collect them all, or a aoe attack that summons Hetsu and is effectively a less powerful Urbosa's Fury. As ultimately even with their intention of expecting the players to not collect everything it's still a bad reward imo. The same applies to a lot of how BOTW handles its rewards. The badges Kilton gives you for defeating all of a certain boss monster do nothing, the weird photo you get for completing the compendium does nothing. The game in general just doesn't handle rewards well.

Plus it's not like it's uncommon for games to have Herculean tasks that reward the player properly. The OG FF7 gave you good stuff for finding and defeating the various weapons for example, so ideally I'd like Zelda to do the same if it's gonna include some big major collectable or optional objective.

Very curious if every time she failed with the minecraft thing she fell all the way to the surface or not. Perhaps recall can be used to rewind a fall (but has a cooldown?)

I usually find Nintendo's 100% completion rewards to be pretty lame but it's hilarious that the reward for collecting all the Korok seeds to be an actual piece of shit.

Thinking about it further because now my brain juices are flowing, I think there's an obvious solution for every completion reward that would've made them better:

The badges, they could still exist but I think having them should have inspired Kilton to develop new items to sell in his shop based on the monsters you defeated, as Kilton is all about researching and studying monsters yet that never really goes anywhere in BOTW and feels underdeveloped, so the obvious solution or at least what I think would have been better imo, would be to have Kilton using the data he's gathered to create new armor sets based on the enemies with abilities or perks centered around them. Like each one would make you invisible to said enemy and the Molduga one could work like the sand boots and improve your sand movement. There could also be weapons based on each. Like a Hinox club or a Molduga Sheild.

The compendium photo is real simple as it's already more or less halfway there, and I think it should've just been a photo of Purah, Robbie, Impa, and possibly Zelda, all of whom made up the ancient tech research team, from 100 years ago. It would've been cool if it was like the first photo they took once they restored the camera function after discovering the Sheikah Slate and ideally it would've been hangable on the wall in Link's house.

Finally the seeds. Ideally what I would've wanted would be a super short pov extra memory that was shot from Links eyes so they didn't have to create a new model which would have been about him discovering the Master Sword for the first time and his first encounter with the Deku Tree. However playing up the whole "poop" angle, I think it'd have been way cooler if instead of Hetsu giving you his poop he gave Link a "magic bag of seeds" that would allow players to fling seeds at monsters using the button that is used to throw weapons, whenever you don't have a weapon equipped. It couldve even been played up as the "Korok Champion ability" even tho you're literally just flinging shit. Obviously it wouldn't do much damage at all, like maybe just 1HP at a time.

That's what I would've done if I made BOTW, and ideally ToTK goes this route with its rewards.

Off topic, but what smaller, mostly inconsequential features do you all want in TotK? Just neat little touches that would add a bit to the game or make you smile?

I'd personally kill for a proper photo mode in this game. BotW was already gorgeous, and TotK is seeming to take that next step visually. It'd be a waste to end up ruining nice shots again because of all of the extra shit from the Sheikah Slate's camera.

housing with more weapon and armor displays. and maybe even customization options

Might get that latter option, even if it's limited. The new footage has Link wearing the Hylian Hood with it down, so there might be an option to wear it up or down. If so, I'm hoping that extends to Link's hair.

BotW didn't just have a problem with Korok seeds, it had a problem with rewards in general. 90% of the rewards you get are weapons, rupees, materials, Spirit Orbs, or Korok Seeds. Few of these things give Link new abilities or change the gameplay in a meaningful way, they mostly just give you more carrying room, higher health/stamina, and better stats. However, TotK doesn't need to get rid of "boring" rewards like Korok seeds and Spirit Orbs, it just needs to mix in a good dose of useful rewards that change the way you play the game.

The best thing about the Fuse ability in TotK is that it turns materials and weapons into something more exciting. A material is no longer something that is just used for cooking or increasing your armor stats, they now have uses in combat, traversal, and puzzle solving. And now that you can combine 2 weapons together you essentially have twice as many weapon slots, meaning you won't be constantly running into situations where you have no room to pick up new weapons. If we also get some new abilities from dungeons and armor with more interesting effects, TotK could fix the rewards problem from BotW.

The Zelda approach to rewards for long completionist-baiting sidequests is and has always been correct going all the way back to the gold skulltulas and their 300 rupee reward that immediately disappears because your wallet is already full at that point.

There is no point whatsoever in giving a reward that unlocks some new power because what the hell are you going to do with it? The game is finished at that point. And it would be obnoxious to lock such things behind sidequests that only appeal to completionists.

It's so satisfying to be able to enjoy finding a seed knowing that I'm not missing out on anything because I probably missed a couple just minutes before. It allows the spirit of discovery that is core to the game to really bloom rather than becoming a FOMO nightmare.

The golden poo is the apotheosis of brilliant completionist-baiting rewards. It's a funny and memorable trophy that is cool to know exists but not something anyone will feel especially compelled to grind for. Only completionists would be interested and if you're a completionist, completionism should be its own reward.

Yes, it's giving me Skyward Sword vibes but more freedom. Using your "imagination" here still has to work within the constraints that you're faced with, and the obstacles are still very structured and cleverly designed, so it's a bit of an illusion, like solving Shrine puzzles. As a classic Zelda fan, that is a lot more exciting to me than using my imagination to play in a sandbox with no structure.

Not to further harp on this but honestly 200 rupees whenever you want it is still a much better reward than a lump of poop that sits on your menu, even if you don't need the rupees, as at least they have a function. Also Zelda has a long series of "good rewards" imo at least in comparison to Hetsu's shit:

-Koholint Sword for most of the Shells in LA
-Rupees whenever you want in OOT for Gold Skulltulas, along with the wallet increases.
-Mask of Truth and wallet increases for Skulltulas in Majora's Mask as well as the Great Fairy Sword for the stray fairies and the Fierce Deity Mask for all the masks.
-Magic armor for all the flowers in Wind Waker, also maybe something for getting the whole map filled out. I seem to remember that but can't be sure.
-Rupees whenever you want for all the poes in TP.
-the Sheild of antiquity, The engineer clothes, and the Great spin in Spirit Tracks for collecting all the stamps.
-The Great spin attack in ALBW for all the Maiamai babies.
-Wallet upgrades as well all the monsters on Skyloft disappearing from changing Batreaux into a human in SS.

Point is I just feel like BOTW could have done better, and like if it required they cut the amount of Koroks, I would have been totally fine with that... especially because the large number of Koroks also causes another issue, and that's that they simply just don't feel like characters in BOTW, there's 900 of them so how could they possibly make them characters? They can't, so they're more like weird nameless creatures which is a huge downgrade from the Koroks of Wind Waker and especially the Kokiri from OOT, tho I may be biased there as imo Kokiri >>>>> Korok. Hopefully they're handled better in ToTK.

Also thinking about the Kokiri, now I'm sad that we almost got them back in BOTW but they went with Koroks instead.

Seems like I might be a little unprepared for an ”Endless” adventure. I was kind of hoping to wrap things up after a month or two. So when I kill Gannondorf at the end he just respawns and laughs at me sending me back to the beginning again with 3 hearts…😳😳😳

It's endless because we have to collect all the tears shed from team "$70 DLC"

Be careful, perspective is deceiving.. The island Aonuma looks at in his gameplay demo looks tiny from the ground. But in reality, and from maps, we can see it’s roughly the size of the Great Plateau once you’re up there. It only takes maybe 15 islands of that size to cover more land than Hyrule from BotW. And I am pretty sure there are more islands than that, plus a sizable underground.

The great plateau is 1/93 of Hyrule.

There won't be 93 islands of that size. We'd be lucky if there's 20.
If you add the small islands, I'm betting that the total area of the sky islands will be below 1/3 of Hyrule.

I don't expect a sky the same size of Hyrule proper but counting them or determining how many there is, is likely not something we can do from footage simply due to the fact that anything sitting extremely high up likely would despawn at a certain point.

Sky islands I think, by nature, will also be much more dense I think.

Comparing the overall size of them to the size of BotW’s is kinda pointless imo. Exploring them won’t be the same type of gameplay loop that exploring the land, which needed a bunch more “dead” space, was.
