Pre-Release The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Pre-Release Discussion Thread

I don't know if this was discussed but after seeing this tweet:

I wonder if the megatama/tears can indeed channel another being... That would mean that the current champions can possibly channel the old champions and this same way Zelda becomes Hylia, and Ganondorf becomes Demise, what would Link be able to channel?

That is quite the jump

Especially since we see Sidon of all people has one

Not sure why you are so hung up on it definitely being Ganondorf, but the resemblance with Demise is there and is undeniable.

It's not only about the hair, also the body structure and especially the scale-like skin (check the left forearm) is exactly the one we saw in SS and not something that was previously used in any Ganondorf representation AFAIR

Not saying it is Demise, it could very well be as you say a final form of some kind, but would I really be so similar to Demise if there wasn't an intentional throwback?
I bet it's the rehydration cutscene and we get a glimpse of Ganondorf essence as Demise during the transformation.

Some more evidence that this is quite obviously still Ganondorf:

3:00-3:02 in the trailer shows Ganondorf (yes, Ganondorf, we see his face in the next cut) setting out his arms on a platform with these pillars in front of it.

Literally the exact same place as in this screenshot:

The pillars are identical. This is the same place, and the same scene. And the same character.

It might become difficult to say what's what when what is actually happening, is that the tears enable taking on the persona of ones ancestor 😅

So let's break this down.

1. People watch the trailer
2. People see a shot of a character who looks completely different to the more conventional Ganondorf later in the trailer (broader, longer hair), and whom the camera cuts away from as their face is about to be revealed.
3. Quite a large number of people think it could also be Demise, as evidenced by tweets posted while I was writing this post.
4. Poster goes around thread saying that it definitely isn't Demise
5. Yet there isn't enough evidence to the contrary as the game isn't released yet and this trailer is all we have to go on...
6. Well, as it happens, there has also been a recent, well-publicized art-book leak
7. Poster literally replies to an argument with

"This might be bordering on artbook spoiler territory "

Now, all things considered together, how is it actually mechanically possible that you are angry that someone may have interpreted that said poster has some ITK information from the art book?
Because he literally is not in the artbook? What I replied to about bordering on artbook spoiler territory has nothing whatsoever to do with Ganondorf/Demise. You can very easily see that.

I have absolutely no idea what your beef is with me but everything I've said about this issue is from the trailer we have just seen, and the official artwork that has been posted.

How much of a time skip from BotW do we think this is. I'm guessing between 3-5 years. There are rebuilt settlement and the kids look to have aged a bit.

This is not the poster that originally replied to you, and this post was directed at bellydrum

Cutting out all the fluff and replying to your point.

I take it that what you meant by "art book people are trying to spoil shit for people" was "I interpreted someone as having some in-the-know info and thought I was indirectly were spoiled about something".

I read your comment, thought "oh shit, are people being open about spoilers now?", saw what you were referring to, and thought "oh... that's it?"

Now, all things considered together, how is it actually mechanically possible that you are angry that someone may have interpreted that said poster has some ITK information from the art book?

I wouldn't say how I feel is "angry", I'm just... irritated, maybe, at your seemingly incessant need to create drama.
You are, if I'm not mistaken, the same person who came into my thread and accused me of deceptively starting "damage control" on behalf of the staff, correct?
See you in the review thread.

Edit: also, here's why Skittzo thinks it's not Demise. You could have just asked him.

7 megatama/tears

Zelda - Hylia
Ganondorf - Demise
Revali - Teba
Urbosa - Riju
Dafuk - Yunobo
Mipha - Sidon

GOAT - Rauru

I have seen the artbook and there was no spoiler in anything Skittzo was saying.

I myself am even on the train "might be some fusion between Ganondorf and Demise" in this scene (but don't want to have an argument about it :) )

I'm replying to you because you're implying a group of people are intentionally spoiling stuff for others.

I'm not "angry"

Cutting out all the fluff and replying to your post.

Yes well people admitting to have read the art book going around shooting down a common theory for seemingly no reason could be very easily interpreted as them forgetting that they know more about the game than those who have just stuck to the officially released content. How would we know who and who hasn't featured in the art book. We haven't read it.

for seemingly no reason
Okay now you have to be arguing in bad faith. I have put down probably a dozen reasons why I do not believe that is Demise, if not more.

And if you actually read any of them you'd very clearly see nothing at all is based on the artbook. It's all based on either visual designs from the trailer/official key art or the lore of the series, specifically Skyward Sword.

You need to put some of that in a spoiler tag please. Specifically the last one.
Done and done, although it is a conclusion I just came to after watching the trailer and seeing other people discuss the game... It's hard because there are still 2 threads active 😅

Can a mod maybe clarify whether discussion around the game based on trailer material should be put in spoilers or not?

one person is not "art book people" and nobody is "spoiling shit for others"

also here's his reasoning for thinking it's not Demise (all stuff directly from the trailer!), admittedly posted after you started complaining, but it couldn't have been that hard to ask if this was something he'd seen in the art book.

One of the things you posted was based only on the artbook, not the trailer. That's what needed to be spoilered.

Specifically,

The name of the goat dude

Crying with laughter reading this. Like this was some minor caveat.

@skitzzo

Yes fair enough, I now believe your side. At first glance I'd still say it's not definite because I'd question why his hair completely changes, but that could be the malice flowing into him or something I guess.

This theory is really odd to me
Zelda and Ganondorf "channeling" (what does this even mean) extremely ancient beings while the descendants get people Link and Zelda were around to meet feels thematically off to me.

It also seems to bank on big ears being Hylia, which isn't something I can get behind.

Maybe they are related to past people, but I don't think Hylia or Demise come into play.

Why do people always characterize themselves as uncontrollably and violently laughing whenever they're trying to convince others they're not mad lol

Yeah, this is exactly what I’m thinking too. It’s not some late game cutscene, it’s not Demise, it’s just an early scene where Ganondorf gets rehydrated (lol) with what is quite possibly a nod to Demise during the transition, which makes sense given what Ganondorf is and why he continues to persist.

When was the last time that the Zelda trailer actually used the Zelda theme?
January 2017, I think.

If you mean the bit that's more specific to the original LOZ title screen and not the overworld, it's been... a long time. Honestly not sure.

If we entertain the idea that the magatama are for channeling, it actually makes alot of sense for Sidon to have one. That would be their excuse to feature Mipha, Revali, Daruk, and Urbosa in cutscenes.

I really hope they're not planning on completely undermining the modern day champions again. They already came across as chump versions largely in BOTW (except for that pinnacle of the humanoid form, Sidon), it would suck if they do it all over a second time.

It's interesting that in this trailer, it doesn't seem Zelda is the damsel in distress like in BOTW. But she does say at the end for Link to find her. Is she held hostage or something? Very interested in what's happened to her, cause she's clearly alive and in the sky islands

Just thinking back to OoT since were at 7 tears and zelda being somewhere else:
After picking up the Master Sword, its explained that the Temple of Time leads to the Sacred realm, and that the Temple of Light is at its Core, as the last Stronghold from Ganondorf, and that it was built by the 7 sacred sages.

The more i think about it, the more im confident, that the Sacred Realm is the major part,
either in that its merging with the world and the islands is the sacred realm, or its a parallel world
and zelda is in this other plane?

They actually fight this time, I think we're safe even if they do go this route
