Pre-Release The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Pre-Release Discussion Thread

Kit and Krysta talk about the leaks, with no spoilers. There's a time-mark in the video for the discussion of the leak. They said that Nintendo won't fast forward any aspects of marketing in reponse to this leak, but will clamp down on anyone handling TotK information. They also said they doubt TotK will be playable at PAX.

Don't think it'll be playable either. At this point I'm not even sure if we'll see it actually in-game before release. Nintendo Secrecy to the max =P.

Also, they really jumped on the YouTube Thumbnail train didn't they? xD

I don't think that was EPD...

Can't stop thinking about that one clue we heard back in 2019 aboue how they used to play Skyrim as they were working on BOTW and how they are playing RDR2 as they are working on TOTK. Were they talking about the immersive realism of it? Various encounters around the map? Hunting as an essential part of the game loop? Sorry if it had been discussed already.

Could mean anything really. Botw doesn't feel anything like Skyrim in terms of gameplay mechanics, but it does have a similar aspect of distracting your attention at almost every point. I haven't played RDR2 so I'm not sure there.

I hope they change the item-collecting jingle from BotW. That really got on my nerves quickly (especially in the beginning). :D
Or let me turn it off completely.

And will Link pet a dog in the next trailer?
my text tone on my phone has been the sheikah sensor noise since 2017 and im still not tired of it lol

Off topic but having finally replayed Nier Automata (1st. PS4 Pro, 2nd. Switch), I’ve upgraded my review from “neat, but broken” to “great, but only recommended with caveats.” Game feels experimental, has horrendous pacing, tedious amount of repetition or backtracking, punishes players for neglecting side quests, and at least on Switch, black-screened on me after scripted segments 3-4 times during the game forcing me to restart. Game’s vibes are unprecedented tho.

Sound design in the game was just so good. I’ve seen random TikToks using like 3 seconds of the guardian piano music without being remotely gaming related. Good stuff

Still nothing in any game since 2017 has beaten this feeling for me

The thing about BoTW's aesthetics and presentation is that it might be repetitive as all hell, but it's also charming as all hell

Sure, maybe you didn't need 120 Shrines with the same music and visuals, but also I'm still not really that tired of it. It's just an incredibly solid aesthetic in my eyes

That is funny lol
But that one is much more subtle (had to hear it on youtube because I deactivated the sheikah sensor and minimap from the get go).

I general I love the sound design and music in this game. It is almost perfect.

But this I kind of disliked a few minutes in because you heard it every few seconds.

In itself it is an alright jingle, but it is too long and intruding for such a game where I enjoy all the environmental noises so much.

That's always been me. I recognize the repetition in themes but I still love it all the same.

Source.

I forgot how the patent detailed how Link can seamlessly switch between different freefalling positions.

Gonna be so fun to just do acrobatics in the clouds.

Kit and Krysta doubt TotK will be playable at PAX, but would they show a trailer or some gameplay before PAX and use PAX to reiterate the trailer/gameplay?

I think there will be at LEAST a new trailer before PAX; the game is releasing in May; if Nintendo decides to wait until April to show new things off, I fear leaks will happen before hand.

The last leak obviously hasn't changed Nintendo's plan, but I really don't want to think that they think they could keep holding off Zelda info until the last minute without any leaks.

Especially when more people are going to be working on the marketing of the game.

Waiting until the very last second to pull out the paraglider in TotK is going to be the next waiting until the very last second to play the Song of Time in MM.
I am very interested in the animation when you don't open your paraglider... 😅

For real, I wonder how they do it. Maybe they automatically force the camera downwards if you are previously facing to the sky with your bow targeting enemies (assuming this patent is real), so you get warned that you are very close to the ground.

I wonder if they’ll do a a gameinformer cover. They did one for BotW, then didn’t do one for a while, then finally did one for again for Bayo 3.

If so, expect a good amount of stuff there. That was where we first learned what the divine beasts were. About 2-3 weeks before release iirc

Exactly. It might be repetitve but the shrine music gives you something special when you hear it, also the nostalgia is all over the place already.

If it's not playable there they would for sure release gameplay before it either way, because I have a feeling that at least Aonuma will fly to States to do some interviews around that time.

I find it awesome that they made this look like a travel guide

and Octorock can repair weapons!?????
Yup, they had a concept for rusty weapon repair that they applied to the Octoroks.

They're most certainly real, they were filed by employees at Nintendo.

Seeing comments of people not knowing a bird or that octorocks can repair rusty weapons when you throw it at them or about a bowling minigame makes me feel better of only finding out what to do with the korok seeds after googling after 100+ hours of gameplay plus finishing the game since I never followed paths so I missed Hetsu lol

lol you never upgraded your inventory after 100 hours?

I ended up upgrading it once I found out, but by that point it was just for checking off that from things to do in botw since I finished all the main objectives of the game lol would have been more useful earlier on. I think I almost ran out of weapons in some of my battles previously

They sure will, like they Did with Zelda BotW abd other big Games.

I remember those theories suggesting that since Zelda is falling backwards down a hole and considering the patent let us fall many ways, including backwards, then that is a bit of evidence for playable Zelda.

Not a crazy idea, but I guess this theory implies we get control of Zelda in the middle of free falling? Maybe, looks like there are large mushrooms underground in the last trailer so maybe we have to land on one of those since we don’t have a paraglider.

if they didn't, they really should have had someone in the forest give a strong hint at his location.

Did you play Nier Replicant? I played Automata first years ago and really enjoyed it, but when I replayed it after having played through Replicant, it really elevated the experience for me. Pretty much everything involving Popola and Devola hits way harder.
