Even if Prime 4 doesn't involve time travel, I'd say Prime shows us exactly how it can work without falling into the same trappings.honestly this kind of storytelling only works if we are seeing stuff from the past.
There is a reason botw's narrative is criticized, you know.
Because that reddit post was complete horseshit and clearly the poster doesn't know how game development works. That Reddit post has been locked btw - and was mocked a fair bit in the comments.
Until something more concrete regarding Prime 4 comes out, it isn't even worth considering that post.
They could do like Metroid Dread and implement a Storm Missile upgrade—and also make missiles much higher speed, so they're not too much harder to hit a target with than the power beam, to start with?Release date/development rumors are whatever, I'm more interested in how they will move the series forward gameplay-wise. Given the modern control paradigm and the default controls of MPR, it seems obvious it will be a dual analog+gyro game. Full lock-on kind of trivializes combat, and even in Zelda now you can't lock-on with ranged attacks. At the same time, missiles kind of need lock-on.
I could see them going a couple ways with it:
- Lock-on only with missiles, using the arm cannon is always free aim.
- Soft lock-on: the visor highlights the enemy, but all the aiming is still manual. If the enemy goes offscreen an arrow points in its direction.
Personally, I prefer Metroid to be a single-player experience since the feeling of isolation is one of the biggest appeals of the series for me. I wouldn't be mad about the inclusion of a multiplayer mode though. I probably wouldn't play it, myself, but it'd be nice for people who want it.I see there was discussion about it about a month ago, but I'm curious how everyone feels about a Metroid Prime 4 multiplayer mode in a post-Prime Remastered world.
Metroid has 4 fairly fun multiplayer modes already. incorporating them into the game would make for an amazing package, but the modes might have to be outsourcedPersonally, I prefer Metroid to be a single-player experience since the feeling of isolation is one of the biggest appeals of the series for me. I dont think outsourcing is the problem but i still'd prefer them to use the budget for the campaign.Metroid has 4 fairly fun multiplayer modes already. incorporating them into the game would make for an amazing package, but the modes might have to be outsourced
will people start complaining about hero lighting in metroid too?
what is hero lighting.will people start complaining about hero lighting in metroid too?
someone probably will
when the characters are lit independently of the environment to place emphasis on themwhat is hero lighting.
oooh thanks for the explanation. I dont think i would mind it if it was used in the more special moments. I think it would be quite cool to see actually, although i dont think i want to see it in all cinematics.when the characters are lit independently of the environment to place emphasis on them
where is that rim lighting coming from in respect to the environment? what about that sharp orange key light? why is it not brightening the environment? as dark as the environment is, Alloy is evenly lit. all this is a hero lighting setup
it's done in pretty much all cinematics to varying degrees. Horizon made it more prominent but it's always been used in games. even in Metroidoooh thanks for the explanation. really? i didn't notice it before.it's done in pretty much all cinematics to varying degrees. Horizon made it more prominent but it's always been used in games. even in Metroid
definitely.$70?
Pikmin 4.I can't see any major game coming after totk not being $70, if not every game
Despite raccoon's complaints pikmin still isnt majorPikmin 4.
ah yeah, although pikmin 4 pre-orders came up at the same time as ToTKPikmin 4.
One of the things I hope they really focus on with Prime 4 is the HUD itself.
As much as I love the look of the HUD in the games, it definitely feels like form over function, and I think it could be done better. Look at how much wasted space there is on the sides, while the HUD takes center stage. It's seriously a massive portion of the screen, particularly towards the bottom. I like how it looks, but I think it needs a serious redesign. I know it's supposed to convey that this is a visor we're seeing through, but it's a bit weird especially because we can already see the outlines of Samus' helmet anyways.
Part of the reason I think this needs a change is because so much of the HUD isn't even that helpful when you're actually playing the game. Maybe it's just me, but I never really use the mini-map well in the Prime games, I basically open up the map every 2 minutes to check my surroundings because it's such a minimized portion of the HUD. Same with the radar. This is a byproduct of the fact that everything from the FOV to the massive outline of the HUD draws your attention to the center of the screen, never the top corners. The game just doesn't do a good job of directing your attention to those areas, particularly during combat. Combined with the small-ass FOV, and I think there's a lot to improve.
The way I think it could be fixed easily is getting rid of the lines, pushing the hud elements farther to the corners of the screen, making the radar and mini-map slightly bigger (so they'd be farther to the right, but also be bigger and more readable, they'd theoretically feel like they'd take up as much screen real estate if not less since they wouldn't be so far into the center), and maybe putting the missile count next to the beams - I don't think they're too bad where they are now, but it's admittedly a bit weird they're in the middle of the screen, could easily just put them next to the right side of the upper beam. I think the visor/beam hud elements can stay, though, they're actually pretty functional and look nice. They should be pushed farther to the corners, too. Kind of makes me wish I knew image editing so I could make a concept for it.Yeah, the HUD bothered me a lot. Not only it takes a lot of space, most of it is only cosmetical and completely useless. It also gives me major headcahes, so I had to play most of the game with it turned off, but then I couldnt see the minimap or how many missiles I had. I don't understand why they didn't give option in the remaster to disable the useless parts of the HUD and leave just the functional ones.
I hope MP4 doesnt go crazy with the size, or at least gives us customization options.

And obviously a bigger FOV will probably help with headaches in general.
I def think P4 will do a big change in both. I dont think there is a space for the lacking movement and combat of the trilogy anymore, and so many of the employees, designers, artists hired by retro came from games with excellent movement and combat such as doom 2016.So finally beat the Remaster! and it was great, and finally I feel I can have some input in this thread, not very deep input just some wishes.
I have no longer any doubt that Retro can put a visually impressive Prime 4 on the Switch and make it run at 60fps. I think they can pull some magic off and that was always my biggest fear for this sequel.
My biggest complaints about the Remaster Prime game has mostly to due with design choices from that era and I dont think that's something that will be a thing on Prime 4.
If there's one thing I hope for in Prime 4 is a change of direction in terms of combat and movement.
- Movement is pretty straight forward, I just want to be able to move faster - How they implement I dont know, if it's via an upgrade(s) or sprint or both or whatever really.
- Combatwise Prime feels very Halo-esque.. especially in the 2nd half of the game and I kind of want it to feel a bit more like modern Doom and 2D Metroid. As time goes by you get better and better upgrades I want it to feel like you are an absolute nasty bountyhunter - overpowered and fast, just steamrolling ahead.
I never got that feeling in Prime.

As for myself I do hope for a world that has more going on. Of course, P1 is basically just a bunch of corridors and even within the trilogy that sort of stuff considerably improves in P3 with larger and denser rooms but im hoping for even larger areas.
A question: I just finished prime remastered with Wii controls and now I’m on hard with dual analogs.
Man, Wii controls are so much better. I just can’t understand how people don’t like that.
Pointing feels so much physically dense and real. It’s like you put some weight to the gameplay.
With dual analogs it’s just another FPS where you move so fast that’s not fun to play.
So, what do tou prefer? Fast paced FPS or a more methodical and heavy FPS?
I'll always go with motion controls in the Prime games. My preferred way to play. That said, the Wii Remote + Nunchuk combo is superior to gyro, and it makes me wish I could somehow use it on the Switch. With gyro, having to constantly reset the pointer can get pretty annoying.A question: I just finished prime remastered with Wii controls and now I’m on hard with dual analogs.

Did you change the shooting from A to ZR? That’s a absurd omission from Retro.I'll always go with motion controls in the Prime games. My preferred way to play. I added gyro. It gets even more chaotic. It’s like playing doom. The game gets so easy that’s not fun to play.I went with dual sticks + gyro and that's just the ultimate way to play it for me
Are you playing strictly with dual sticks or have you added gyro to?
the original prime HUDs were made for SD TVs and the remaster goes out of its way to be faithful to the original, I'm sure prime 4 will have one more suitable for newer TVs
He was told from a source Metroid Prime 4 is complete.
I haven't watched the video yet, but I guess it's possible. And even if that's not the case, I'm sure we're getting very close to the first real trailer for the game. Just gotta let Tears of the Kingdom marketing run its course first.
Trust the process!
