Not really related to the current Direct hype, but since people were talking about BotW's Switch Presentation trailer recently: IMO people who thought BotW needed more of a story like that should play Age of Calamity. It's fun enough just to button mash through on low difficulty if you're not that into Warriors gameplay, and it does have a plot, focus on different characters, etc. It's a great companion piece to BotW.

What do y'all think we'll see in terms of arm abilities?

1. Ground phasing
2. Momentum reversal
3. ???
4. ???
for one, I expect this to be a bigger game, so more than 4 main abilities. Here are some throwaway ones:

  • Lens of truth
  • Grappling hook/sticky hand, very physics based, but you can only use it for a certain range and once per “jump”
  • Create clouds, similar to cryonis
  • Vacuum suck up malice
  • Telekinesis
Aside from that, I hope that the menu system when you pause the game is kind of a holographic interface created by the arm’s spirit energy. Like Link holds out his arm and there’s swirling green UI. And in general I hope the UI is better than BOTW of course
I love this list, I would also add the Beattie that some how doubles as our new camera where we can position it facing Link from different angles. “Vacuum suck up malice” is right up my alley! I’m probably one of the few people that actually loved the Bellows from SS, there was something so satisfying to me with blowing away every grain of sand to uncover objects, so a reversal function of sucking up all the malice would be awesome.

i would have loved that story in a zelda gameplay setting and in that world.
This was not the same world, it was segments mascarading as locations from BotW.
I was also not fond of the ... demo story. the time travel stuff did not work for me here. Felt to much like fanfiction to get the characters together.
Hw1 was fun enough, but i had my fill with that type of gameplay.
And last: i really could not get through the performance. at least on my switch it was chugging along and felt awfull.

Some may like the store, true that.

I’d really like one of the arm powers to be a grappling hook/hook shot mechanic, even if it only works on specific spots. I’m picturing some momentum generation from it like Ori’s grappling mechanic. Picture link shooting up out of a grapple then phasing into a ceiling. Might be more platformy than Zelda/BotW usually goes but I’d dig it.

AoC is great presentation wise, and some of the characters are phenomenal in terms of design, personality, and story, namely the Sheikah trio, but overall its story is kinda subpar imo. It really should've just been the backstory of BOTW. Cut out Kogha, he has no reason to be in past, make Sooga the leader of the Yiga, and maybe they could keep the whole time travel stuff, to allow for the present day characters, but instead of it being a attempt to change the past it should've been a attempt to prevent the past from being changed and made worse by Ganon. So the time travel stuff could've been a secret side story happening alongside the main story.

That's what I would've preferred over the more or less fan-fiction we got.

I would've preferred the backstory of BotW without time travel, ending with the Sheikh trio taking prominence near the end as things get dicey as the roster things out one by one and they have to take Link to the Resurrection Shrine. But I know I'm in the minority on this. 😅

There was no chance they were gonna make a warriors game without having Riju, Sidon, Yubobo, and Teba playable. So some form of shenanigans was always in the cards. To me tho they could've had their cake and eat it too. It could've still had those characters as playable, and been canon to BOTW. They instead chose to make it its own story, largely so they can do what they do best when making warrior spin-offs, which was focus almost entirely on their OCs.

That said I personally above all else would have preferred it be a true prequel, time travel or no time travel. Given what we've got tho, I've resigned to considering it a non-canon story set in the canon past BOTW, as story aside I love the way Hyrule looks, and I love the way characters from BOTW look... especially Impa,

She is best Impa.

I absolutely loved AoC Impa ❤️

If we're going to the sky, and to the underground, we have to also be going swimming, right? There's a long history of swimming / underwater stuff in Zelda. And it will make up for the enormous disappointment that that never happened in Wind Waker. I kept expecting an underwater segment, or a zora scale to dive with... and it just never came. I was so damn sure, too....

Would absolutely love some iron boots to explore the bottom of Lake Hylia in this one.

Exactly my take. I maaayyybe could have dealt with the performance had the story been immediately compelling, but it wasn't at all. Reeked of alt-timeline fanfiction. And that IQ / performance combo... I just couldn't deal. I'd be willing to try it again on Switch 2 if it's patched.

BotW was also too close to Age of Calamity for it to give me those fun nostalgic vibes the first HW did. That game was fanservice par excellence.

I just put in a preorder on Amazon to secure a $60 physical price. This price increase really makes the vouchers, and by extension NSO, a much better value than they were.

Good point, I can certainly see it.
That being said, I know I'll be hopping into this game day after day, month after month so I'm def getting it digital. Which means it'll be even more of a deal with the vouchers. Just wondering what to spend the other voucher on...

The price has been removed from the listing
Yes, but now everyone is taking down their pre-orders. Best Buy, Amazon, etc. GameStop seems to be the last one remaining. So when they pop back up, don’t be shocked to see that the price has been updated to $70.

EDIT: And now GameStop has halted them too.

Meanwhile at Nintendo

"I accidently put the 'adjusted' prices up early Mr. Bowser. Don't worry I already took them down."

"Oh, how long were they up for?"

"Only half an hour sir. I don't think anyone noticed."

Meanwhile at Famiboards

Calling it now: the trailer opens on the green hieroglyphs from the first teaser

...and closes with a title card on a green background, that reads: "The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been developed".

TotK page on the eShop will surely go live after the Direct and with it the estimated file size. Any last minute predictions? Am saying it will be 20.4GB.

Tbh, I'm obviously vibing expecting the new trailer, but I'm also incredibly curious to see the guaranteed collector's edition. How much will it cost? What will include? Worth it, not?

ha, would be great.

25,7. Im confident that audio will take up a lot more (higher quality sounds, more VA).
The game will already need a 32GB cart, why hold back. And i assume it will reuse most assets to some degree, so not that much to remove. Essentially: its a pokemon Gen 2 but for Zelda.
I hope the trailer ends with some classic maniacal laughter from Ganondorf. It's been so long.
i am really curious whos playing ganondorf and how he will sound.

I am confident that we will get a glimpse of the person from the person on the walls in the last trailer.
