No joke, if it’s not shown this direct that all it could have been and ever was. Someone might have seen it and thought it a remaster for a game. I really do hope I’m wrong…
It's a theory I suspect could be possible. The only thing that I think throws it off though is why some people specifically heard it was going to be a holiday 2022 release if it really was only a tech demo and not something meant for the public to see. It's more likely that the release window got shuffled around rather than it being something that was never meant to see the light of day.

Thing is, when they asked for clarification from the guy who said Nintendo has no big games after TotK he basically said only heavy hitters like Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, 2d or 3d Mario which is like well no shit? Zelda just released and there won't be another Smash, Mario Kart, or Animal Crossing on this version/gen Switch. Pokémon is obviously DLC only this year except maybe some ports (like the GB games on NSO) or spin offs. So it's basically saying no mainline Mario or Zelda for awhile which again no shit? Still leaves a lot of franchises that doesn't fit his definition of big games. Hell, Metroid and Fire Emblem don't even count for his definition of big games.

This just further shines a light on how... Ill-advised such a statement is. Major is subjective. I don't know how you write that tweet out as a journalist and think yep, that properly conveys what I meant.

You could have said hardware moving software and it would have been better fitting. But even then, I still question anyone that can make such a statement in confidence when EPD games are notorious for coming completely out of nowhere with "major" releases.

Baffled by people saying the game vouchers aren't that good of a deal, not worth it, etc.

Meanwhile, Sony and Xbox games have increased in price by $10 and I'm constantly hearing complaints that Nintendo games never go on sale.

Take the W, people. $20 is $20, at least the games don't cost more.
You're not saving money is why people are saying that. For example 2 physical games cost $120 dollars. While the vouchers cost $100, plus the $20 cost of a Switch Online membership. Which is still $120.

Nintendo's PR isn't that slick.

This is assuming you are paying full price for online and not a family plan, and only buying two games per year

A deals a deal

You'd buy a 20 dollar membership once a year, while you can make several $100 voucher purchases.

If it works like how Game Vouchers currently work. Someone can have a max of up to 8 game vouchers at one time (can still get more after just not at once) for 8 different games that just has to be spent over 12 months. You’ll make the cost back of NSO ($20) on the first pair of vouchers, with future voucher games all getting discounts

Where I live physical Nintendo games are ~60$. Digital games in the eshop are for some reason I don‘t quite get ~78$. The voucher costs 130$ and regular NSO is 28$. So yeah a bad deal.

That only works out if you're buying the online just for the vouchers and only use them once a year. I don't think anyone is doing that?

For example, I'm already paying for online because of all the other features, the vouchers are now a bonus.

I have a new job orientation tomorrow starting 9EST, it would be really cool to get that Nintendo twitter direct confirmation as im about to begin

Decided to plot a graph of Nintendo Direct Dates in the Switch Era (Winter and Fall Only) vs the First-Party releases closest to that direct. As it turns out, there's actually a decent mathematical correlation between them. As in, it makes a pretty good trendline.

Punching in the date of Fire Emblem: Engage's release date actually nets you a Direct date of February 1st which is hilarious and also interesting.

Of course, don't take too much stock into this as this is based off patterns that may or may not continue later. But, it is an interesting footnote.

Famiboards when things are getting really serious:

Got it, I didn’t know other countries had them not discontinued.
I didn't either until tonight, to be fair! I've learned a lot lol.

Australia has FDC listed under their games though, which hopefully ends up on the NA list 🤞 been on my backlog for a while.
(My backlog is so crazy though that I could do without a direct until fall and I'd still be fine)

I'm realizing that interesting news or rumors pop up when I'm away from my computer. So tomorrow, I am going to be at my computer at all times to ensure that a Nintendo Direct announcement doesn't happen.
Right? Boyfriend and I haven't sat down and watched a movie in a few weeks, and then 20 minutes in, Vouchers™

You’ll have to step away from your computer to get your morning bowl of Orville Redenbacher popping.

Yup, which is exactly why none of those comments from him and Andy really mean anything. I'm not sure why some care so much unless they are just bitter about them, which seems to be the case for some.
Last February, some people said the direct was too RPG heavy. September, some said it was too farming sim heavy. What do you think people will say we saw too much of this time?
I think the too RPG heavy complaint will be valid for this direct as well lmao.

It’s not “obvious” to me that we don’t get a new 2D or 3D Mario tbh. Looking at normal release cycles, they’re long overdue. Of course, they can “save” that for Switch 2, it makes sense, but it doesn’t make their absence better and it’s honestly disappointing that so many IPs just got a Wii U port and that was it. So I do fear as well that we don’t get “big” Switch games after Zelda, yes. And of course, Metroid or Fire Emblem don’t count. You can’t compare that to Mario (Kart) or Zelda. For the record: I really appreciate that Nintendo brought back so many smaller franchises for Switch.

With everything that's come out today, I'm going into the coming Direct with the expectation that it may be the only one until the fall, unless there's still some major gaps left in 2023 by the end

Too much "shooty shooty bang bang".

Goldeneye was just the start. Star Fox Assault. Metroid Re-Prime and 4. Kid Icarus Uprising remaster. Rockman Taisen. The Halo Masterchief Collection. The new Donkey Kong game gives DK back his Coconut Gun!

...It'll all just be too much for some.

thread's slow again, need a new controversy asap
I think an Amiibo Festival 2 could be good, and that Amiibo Festival (for the most part) wasn't as terrible as some people say. It just wasn't what anyone wanted, and it seemed half-baked and not fully thought out.

I know what Amiibo Festival is, I know it's more of a board game rather than a party game, and I know it has its faults.
If they made it a bit more Mario Party-esque, AC fans would eat that up. If they want to go above and beyond, they could make it so you could buy some game-exclusive items with your "happy points" or whatever, and be able to transfer them over to ACNH.

Twice as fun if they somehow make the announcement as tone-deaf as the OG Amiibo Festival trailer.

You’d be doing God’s work, my friend.
