Predictions:

[*]Thing that no one expected or could have predicted (except me): Ring Fit Rhythm, a new game using the Ring Fit accessories. Features a bunch of rhythm-based mini-games alongside a main mode where you traverse courses and battle enemies using rhythm-based movement with the ring. It's definitely a workout, but less of an exercise game and more of a party game where you challenge friends locally and online to get the best scores.

Congrats, you just won the internet.

Now I will be mad that this isn't a thing come next week.

I really don't think we're getting a full Zelda direct. It literally makes no sense. One big trailer and maybe a treehouse showing only the starting area, but a full 20+ minute direct for the game makes no sense.
People keep saying this. What about it doesn't make any sense? It's a major Nintendo release, many of them get their own Directs. It is by no means a certainty, especially if they do decide to keep the game under wraps until release in a very deliberate way, but "doesn't make sense"? Why?

nvidia tweeted about an SoC that could maybe possibly have been what drake is based on (but a customised version for nintendo) and then the person that quote tweeted it said expected 2nd half of 2024, but we will stop this convo here, if you’d like go have a look my friend.

That person is speculating, they know as much about new hardware as anyone else who scanned the Nvidia leak.

I don't understand the worry about TotK marketing. The previous trailers weren't showing much because they didn't need to, most of them were years ago when the game wasn't done yet. They'll ramp it up as we approach May and they need to get people excited

Honestly don't get why Zelda Direct is considered a meme, they're gonna have to do some kind of info dump on it and they can't stuff everything into a general Direct. Maybe it won't get a Direct but at the very least a meaty overview trailer

That's a guess based on the same information the rest of us have. You might as well quote me saying I think it's coming in 2023 like that's evidence of anything.

I can settle this debate: Neither TotK DLC nor WW/TP will launch this year.
Regardless of what happens, I think TotK won't eat much of Direct time. But if it is in ONLY this Direct, it will take up a big portion of it and I hope that doesn't happen.
Why would TotK release without DLC? One of their most anticipated title in years and it will be without it? No.
Why would a game started its life as a DLC get its own DLC? And I gave my reason, as next gen creeps closer, teams will move on. As Dring said, Nintendo IS moving on.

agreed! i am in no way saying that what the person said is in any way shape or form a fact

Capcom should make a 3D ghosts n goblins game. The enemies and world would transition well.
They did:

Maximo himself was a descendant of the original hero, Arthur.

I know it's just a wording but TotK has not started as a DLC. They were just thinking of DLC ideas for BOTW and then scrapped it and make the full new game. But am sure this will be explained in detail when game releases. As for the teams, it's not like full EPD3 staff worked on Champion's Ballad iirc.

Can we keep this in the hardware thread? Many folks put that thread on ignore for a reason.
Surely this kind of post isn't necessary after a total of like six sentences were exchanged including "but let's take this to the hardware thread" and "it doesn't mean anything anyway."

This is said often but I think it's really overselling it. Some of the ideas for TotK may have been ideas they had when trying to brainstorm DLC. But the fact that their ideas were too big and different for DLC is exactly why they're making a sequel instead. So it didn't "start as DLC."

Twilight Princess and Wind Waker will absolutely come to Switch. It might not be until like 2025 though.

They did quite well, the first one was released very early in PS2's lifetime and was a quite the graphical showcase for the system. But the games were brutally difficult, save points were too few, the game punished you for dying. If you're ok with this they were great.

Looking at a few videos now, I stand corrected. Capcom make another modern instalment of the franchise!

Capcom went right back to making the regular 2D GnG games after Maximo 1 and 2, so I imagine they didn't do too hot saleswise. It's a shame because I enjoyed them a lot.

Yea I loved the 2d ones and the last one
Resurrected on switch was a blast to play. I always thought the transition to 3D was a no brainer, and well I guess they did just that. However with modern console power they could something special in my opinion.

Agreed. TotK feels like it exists in this weird clash between two schools of current Nintendo marketing.

The first is about never leaving the core Nintendo audience without a key title announced that can generate hype within this audience for a long time and keep them speculating and coming back to Nintendo presentations. Even in periods of drought, the promise of a future Smash or Zelda or whatever can be enough to avoid people losing interest. It only took 6 months from the release of Smash before they announce a Zelda that they knew was very far away, for this exact reason.

The second, which feels more recent, is to concentrate marketing and even announcements to very short periods where Nintendo essentially don't market much else at all. Zelda is not immune to this overall strategy, but because it also has had to function as bait for the core Nintendo audience it ends up in this weird place where it's been announced for ages and is being released fairly shortly, yet there's little known about it. That does not mean it won't get all the normal marketing things a major Nintendo release gets, for example its own dedicated Direct; it just might mean it might come later than what one may expect from a game announced almost 4 years ago.

It makes sense if you consider how Nintendo handled Xenoblade and Splatoon 3 last year. And yes maybe those games need more advertisement or whatever but honestly TOTK does needs it too.

Zelda Direct is a fanfiction. I repeat, Zelda Direct is a fanfiction.
I don't even want one, tbh. We already know a lot of the overworld, so it's not the same sense of discovery as before - at least not the same scale. They're going to want us to be surprised by things and find them out for themselves.

My guess: maybe a story trailer, maybe a few tiny clips or screenshots on Twitter, but not too much.

Oh and if they have a story trailer, I can see it being shown before the Mario movie.

I don't think these are the things that people are expecting in a TotK Direct. It wouldn't be "here's Death Mountain." It would be, here are the new rune-type abilities, new kinds of enemy camps, different physics/chemistry engine interactions than the last game, and things of that nature, in addition to potential trailer-style sneak peaks at new areas, towns, NPCs, story, etc. In short, it would be the same things that the E3 2016 trailer introduced and then were delved into with multiple days of Treehouse Live combined with massive fan coverage on the show floor. Things aren't going to be different enough to warrant that level of coverage in TotK, but the same summary of "this is how you play the game" would be used to flesh out all the mechanics that have so far just been hinted at in two second trailer shots.

Moving forward, any insider claiming Nintendo is sitting on the much requested Zelda: Wind Waker HD/Zelda: Twilight Princess HD ports after many years of hearing this will get an automatic dismissal as an insider from me. Tired of the constant lying from these "fake" insiders and everyone else should be as well.

I do trust a couple like Nate but many of these insiders have been pushing games that never materialize and it's gotten really old.

Uh okay.
I want to see if TOTK has towns. We all know BotW didn’t have towns.
It's just going to have 1 town.
