and they said that the thread is dead

Thread's dead, baby. Thread's dead.

I don't even know what the rumours are; Famiboards just gives off a particular smell when people are sad.

Like burning dust.

Y'all the next Smash game will probably be Smash Ultimate with a new mode added. Don't expect anything more tbh. They clearly made the game so they could take a break of it for a few years and unless it comes at the end of the life of the next console, i don't think it's necessary to go through the whole Smash thing again.
Ultimate won't be re-released, too much of a struggle with the dozens of different companies involved for just a port.

Next console will probably be back-compatible, so we'll be able to play Ultimate. But no way they port it and add to it. Everyone already has Ultimate, not worth it for Nintendo to pay again all the companies involved when people will just be able to play with their Switch cardridge.

They'll make a new one, with Sakurai or without him.

Regarding Pikmin 4. I just remembered how some people said that it's a Drake footage or the fact that they haven't shown much is because of it. Fun times.
people had a lot of hope based on that teaser but it will probably wind up very ugly, as per that weird development screenshot with the chromatic aberration

Mario Rabbids 2 - too good for Switch, it's a next gen-footage.

Zelda TotK delay video footage - too good for Switch, it's a next-gen footage.

With the rumors or so many ports it feels like this is the last year for Switch. It feels like the end and the 3D Mario is being saved for Switch 2 in 2024. I’m definitely not on any speculation of the next system coming in 2025.

I'm seeing some Luigi's Mansion 4 discussion here. Is there any indication that it's happening for certain, or is it just speculation/an educated guess?
Speculation. Luigi's Mansion 3 sold extremely well, so a sequel is inevitable.

it's just an assumption that nintendo will keep making the same shit forever

(not a bad assumption, mind you)

Now I need Nate’s predictions for Nintendo’s games video to make everyone happy (and hints of the direct date 🥹)

He said Sony and Nintendo predictions for 2023 would be discussed in the coming weeks, so if I had to guess, next week is Sony and Nintendo is two weeks from now. After that, the investors briefing is February 7th and my guess is a Direct on the 15th or 16th.

It’s like asking about 3D Mario discussion. We don’t need evidence of it happening to know it will happen.

Think it’s just speculation, but it makes a fair amount of sense. It’s a big seller, and we’re approaching the point where a sequel’s development timeline makes sense.

Personally, I think it’ll be saved as a hardware showcase for the next Switch, but I definitely get why it’s starting to pop up.

Microsoft predictions were last week. Would probably be Sony predictions?

I feel like 2023 is to the Switch what 2011 was to the Wii and 2016 was to the Wii U, but it looks a lot more stacked than those years were. Those years were like the last gasps of their consoles, whereas this year seems like the Switch's graceful swan song.

They did Microsoft’s predictions in the last video.

Does anyone know how much staff overlap was shared between Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3? I could see Astral Chain 2 as a late Switch exclusive before the successor is released.

Right. The Switch’s final year is going to be wayyyyu better than those systems final year critically and sales wise. The rumored ports are great for me and with TOTK, Pikmin 4, etc makes a damn good final full year for switch.

It's actually kind of incredible how much better Nintendo is handling the latter years of the Switch compared to the latter years of the Wii. I always thought of the Wii as a massive success, but if you look at the last half of its lifespan, Nintendo kind of just gave up on it for some reason. 2011 had Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Skyward Sword and that was about it. Even pre-Direct, 2023 already looks better for the Switch, with Fire Emblem: Engage, Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, and the DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 3. And we've likely only just scratched the surface of 2023.

Tons of devs working on the 3DS took a toll on the Wii.

Mario Kart 7, Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus Uprising (kind of), OoT 3D (kind of), NSMB2, Sticker Star, Fire Emblem Awakening, ALBW, Pokemon XY, AC New Leaf, LM2... A lot of devs here that these days would be working on just the one Nintendo system.

Luigi's Mansion 4 would genuinely be the most disappointing Switch reveal for me at this point. 3 looked and felt like it pushed the Switch to its limits, so a potential 4 on Switch - even if its good as a whole - simply won't be able to represent that big of a leap when it comes to production values, level scopes, animation quality, etc.

LM4 on the Switch successor? I am so in.

Not sure why you’d think they’d make another LM on Switch. That’s a one game per system type of series.

I mean, it could be cross-gen, but LM4 isn't coming before October 2025 at the absolute earliest, lol.
Why can’t it? We already know that NLG didn’t devote their entire workforce towards Strikers. I don’t see why there has to be an arbitrary 6 year development period.

Personally, I think it’ll launch within a year of the next console’s lifespan, so I’m not exactly pounding the table for a 2023-2024 release either. But to say that it absolutely can’t happen is silly.

I don't think I've ever seen people do this "well, they just released one project, but this studio that has never released games faster than once per three years can do it faster now" and it ever turn out, lol.

Naughty Dog fans are currently doing this to avoid the realization that no new single player ND game is probably coming before 2029.

I'm very glad Nate dashed the hopes of any hardware anytime soon, seems like he is the only person people really seriously listen to here.

You have so many literal direct statements signals coming out every pore from Nintendo that their next generation hardware is still some time away. Disappointment for those of you was the only destination.

You will get some doomposting now, but don't worry, lots of Nintendo games to look forward to.

It's a fact that the whole team was not working on Strikers.
