Well here's your Direct folks

You are joking but the fact that it's happening on January 25th rules out the January 25th Direct (lol that's a funny sentense). There was a State of Play the same day as Direct in September but having the 2 presentations named Direct in the same day would be hilarious.

Other than E3, I don't think the scheduling of competing presentations are as coordinated as some people believe. Why would Nintendo reveal to Sony or Microsoft when there presentation is going to be ahead of time and vice versa? Directs also planned well in advance. The date has probably already been set. Moving could mean making changes to the presentation, rescheduling shadowdrops, informing third parties, etc.

Ironically, Team January only get indirect wins, like Minis, Pokemon Presents, and whatever the fuck Microsoft are doing.

Yeah, that's true. This February Direct was set in like November at the leatest. And they also probably know what competitors are doing.

This meme cuts me deep.

The next Nintendo system should be called "The Nintendo" so our parents and grandparents who called every game system we played "the Nintendo" can retroactively be right.

I'd like a good direct this time

if most of the runtime was similar to moyamoto explaining why pikmin bloom is good I'd be a happy camper

My parents called to every system "gameboy". Gameboy advance 4k would be nice.

I need a switch with this style:

This actually sounds plausible to me and I'm worried about what that means for my brain

Am I the only one who watches the whole Direct in japanese right after? Not just see the differences but also heard the japanese instead of english dub.
I actually seriously wish Nintendo gave us the option of dub or sub.

I'm working on a unified theory of the Q1 Direct but my findings are a bit disappointing

I'll wait to see if we get lucky this week but if we don't I'll publish my report here

First direct of the year tends to be pretty strong often. Last time the main problem was mostly that too many things felt too small: Here's 2 new Mario Kart tracks for the booster course pass without a date, hey there's a splatfest coming for splatoon, a new Mario Strikers update, golf is finally coming to switch sports. Miyamoto's Pikmin Bloom talk was longer than these combined. So many tiny trailers, but nothing really meaty. Pikmin 4 was amazing, but also only got 30 secs and a screenshot. There was also the abundance of farm games, but that was kinda funny imo.

Ah, the Nintendo Theory of Everything that unifies Quantum Mini Direct Theory and General Direct Relativity. That's certainly a tough problem to solve, even for the world's best scientists.

tiny ads are so abysmal and september was rife with them

I don't hesitate to say that despite miyamoto's appearance september was the worst direct of all time

Q1 Mini and that’s it, been saying it since the start of the year but y’all are too hopeful

they are in no better position to only do a Q1 mini than now, especially if the obligatory June Mario game is a smaller spinoff

it's not the conclusion I was coming to but a reduced presence before E3 does add up depending on what you believe

facts:
  • we have a huge first party game in may
  • we have first party games in january, february, and march

things we've been told:
  • zelda is the last first party tentpole
  • nintendo will start releasing lots of legacy content soon

a mini in March like 2020 could certainly dot our i's and cross our t's

I’m pretty sure you saw my predictions where I penciled in a Mini for February and a Zelda event for March, but I can see a world where the two are reversed, and we finally learn about Zelda before Nintendo fills in the gaps before Q3

Do the UK Directs tend to be the same as NA?

Because if so, I might start watching those instead 👀
Yes they are. The NCL employees sections are just subbed but the headlines are the same as NA I believe. But the obvious differences are the changes in trailes with the Europe format date (the US format is literally so bad).

It's funny sometimes reading these 4chan posts, things like 5G on the new Switch why would anyone want that having a cell phone?

I stopped reading at the point it said “Custom NVIDIA TX2 Chip” right after saying “Among the specs are Raytracing”

Not even an iota of effort 😂

I hope Switch 2 is called Ultra Nintendo Switch. It calls back to the old days (Super NES, and even Ultra 64) and Ultra would also point towards 4k resolution (Ultra HD).

the new switch will have to have a name that is very simple, and conveys everything about the system.

It cannot be super, mega, Great or Ultra, this ain’t Pokémon now.

BE CREATIVE 🔥🤖🔥

Pretend that’s a flaming chibi robo

I like this, though with the way naming schemes go nowadays I expect 'Switch Ultra'.

Switch U, for short.

😢

I'm sure it's been suggested before but if they kept the Switch branding I could easily see Nintendo doing something convoluted and calling it: Switch UP, where you can "switch it up" and "level up your game."

Ultra Switch, the gimmick is that the dock isn’t a toaster and is instead more like a charging dock that it lies down on, on an angle. It acts as a second screen and stuff can be displayed on it during docked gameplay.

Basically, imagine an open world game where the mini-map is on a separate screen. This is easily in the top 5 for stupidest Nintendo predictions I’ve ever had, but there’s gotta be some gimmick to the new system and this is the most natural one I could think of

I would actually really love to have a second screen for at-a-glance maps or inventory screens or stuff like that, but my consoles are set up so far away I wouldn't really be able to see it.. Maybe if the second screen was in my hand, as part of the controller?

No no no no no, that’s just Wii U, you’re very funny, but no accommodations will be made, this is it, fuck you
