I know the timing is bad with Bayonetta 3 just now releasing (which I’m also extremely hyped for), but once again, I’ve gotta say it—don’t sleep on the current NSO Game Trial, ya’ll! If you’re a fan of asymmetric multiplayer games in the same vein as PAC-MAN VS. or Nintendo Land’s competitive attractions (Mario Chase, Luigi’s Ghost Mansion, and Animal Crossing: Sweet Day), please check out OBAKEIDORO!

I was so captivated by this game that I didn’t even know existed until just the other day that I felt compelled to make a thread about it, since no one else would:

Does Hallmark make Halloween specials? If not, they should. I'd love to see a Hallmark romance crammed into a horror setting.
So far as I know, they do not. They make autumn films, but no Halloween films.

I am positive that you could make a romantic Halloween movie in their kitschy style - maybe something around a costume party, or some silly witch or vampire story or something. But I guess that's not what they wanna do. Out of the budget?

Mario 3 is so good that it doesn't feel like a NES game. Such a modern feeling game even now.
this is a take I see a lot, and I have to be honest…

having never played it as a kid, I don’t find it intuitive or modern-feeling at all

I even find Super Mario World a bit confusing (and did as a kid too) but it feels more right

The thing is, I didn't really play Mario 3 as a kid, either. I played a bit of it on GBA, but Mario World was (and still is!) my go-to. I didn't develop the higher opinion I have of Mario 3 until the summer of 2020, so it's not a nostalgia thing.

I guess by "intuitive" or "modern feeling," it feels very close to what 2D Mario currently is, mechanically and structurally. It set the standard without feeling behind on that standard. It doesn't feel aged. It makes Mario 1 and Lost Levels feels primitive and yet it can still go toe to toe with World or the NSMB games in terms of polish and execution. I still like Mario World more, but Mario 3 is very impressive as a 30+ year old game.

Saw a Subway billboard on the way home saying “Lettuce make your day”.

No, Subway, I don’t think I will.

The Legion (i.e. the first link) is an incredible deal and will give you excellent performance. It is very far ahead of the others.
For a gaming laptop, the most important element is the GPU. Since these all have NVIDIA GPUs, the "tier list" is actually pretty easy:

Best: 3080 Ti, followed closely by 3080
Great: 3070 Ti, followed closely by 3070
Still decently good, but may need to lower resolution: 3060
Getting pretty low: 3050 Ti/ 3050

The 1660 Ti is a fair bit older, but I would probably put it between the 3050 Ti and 3060.

It's a little more complicated for laptops, unfortunately, because different laptop manufacturers will use different power limits for their GPUs, which will affect performance, and thermal constraints will also have an impact. But these are all full-size laptops, so I would expect at least decent thermal performance on each.

The Legion has by far the best GPU and is pretty close to the maximum power limit. The Legion series are also know to have good thermal design and performance.

What about CPU? Less important, but still important to an extent. The way to interpret a CPU name is as follows:
1. The first digit or two will be the generation. For AMD, the 6th generation is the most recent, and for Intel it's 12th.
2. The subsequent numbers typically represent the relative power of the CPU. So, the AMD 5900 will be more powerful than the 5800.
3. There's also a kinda subname - Ryzen 3, 5, 7, or 9 for AMD, and i3, i5, i7, or i9 for Intel. Again, bigger number typically means higher performance. But you can already tell that by point 2, so this is more about branding to be honest.

It can be a little tricky to directly compare Intel and AMD, especially across different generations, but I would estimate that the Legion (with its AMD 5800H) has the best CPU, followed by the Asus TUF Dash (with its Intel 12650H), and then the others. Another point for the Legion.

Otherwise, there's memory and storage. All of these have 16GB RAM except the first MSI one (which has 8GB and I would not recommend). At least one is DDR5, but DDR4 is just fine (I doubt you'd notice the difference). And they all have a 512GB SSD. You may want to add more storage and/or memory in the future. You can definitely do so on the Legion.

There's other stuff to consider, but that's the main gist. For me, the biggest factor I haven't mentioned so far would be the display. Once again, the Legion wins - it's the only one which is QHD rather than FHD, it has a very good refresh rate, and it gets plenty bright.
TLDR; out of that list, get the Legion and don't look back lol

If you're planning to wait for holiday sales anyway, I'd be happy to keep an eye out for any deals. This list gave me a pretty good idea of what you're after.
Of course, I would appreciate that. Though I will also be on the look-out. I don't want anyone to get frustrated if I don't hop on the deal immediately after they do all the work for me so don't do it if you don't want to, but if you want, then just give me some pointers here and there.

I'm currently caught up on Andor.

What does everyone think of Tales of the Jedi?

I'm on episode 2 for that series, currently.
I’m still catching up on Disney Star Wars. I’m at the end of the Bad Batch right now. Should be on Andor next week I think.

Andor is probably the best one yet, though I am enjoying Tales of the Jedi.

Twin Peaks: The Return is probably my favorite live-action TV show, but it’s so surreal watching it 5 years later. There are a lot of dead people in this show.

Played some Odyssey last night to celebrate its 5th anniversary and holy cow it is ridiculous how Nintendo released two of the best games in their history just months apart in 2017.
You could make a full blown good game out of just one of the captures, and the game has tons of them.
While there have been some amazing Switch games since, nothing else feels quite like it in that it shots for the stars in almost every way.

so uh i dropped a bit of soda on my pro controller. did the q tip with rubbing alcohol method but the d pad sounds sticky. so far its still working but im worried about it going bad later on. what should i do?

Halloween Jazz Day 27: Bic Beiderbecke “Goose Pimples”

Whether it’s from the cold weather or spooky tales, the season certainly gives you goose bumps. Early jazz cornetist that was known for the mid tempo melodies.

I hear if you put Doritos dust over the soda, the aura of Geoff Keighley will come and make your controller like new.

I was gonna say that looks disgusting but I just had chicken with a side of "spicy ranch" that I then had to dump a solid layer of cayenne powder onto in order to taste any semblance of heat so maybe I'm not a good judge of what "tastes good"

Disgust is too tame a word for this travesty. I will drown him in Mountain Dew, then prop his unconscious form over an anthill, where the sugary sweetness of the beverage he’s soaked in will compel the little ants to gnaw away at his flesh.

No I totally get that, no worries at all! I've been interested in a gaming laptop for like, over a year now, so it's really not out of my way to keep an eye out lol (I ended up deciding to go with a gaming desktop instead - I moved apartments in July and now have a lot more space, so I realized there was no real reason to get a laptop. I'll also be buying during holiday sales)
