News Nintendo Direct announced for September 13th (7 AM PT, 10 AM ET, 3 PM BST, 4 PM CEST)

Could it be possible that they do a NSO update trailer on twitter? It's still very strange to me that they don't have shown anything to keep people paying not only the base, but the expansion pack also. Unless they consider Goldeneye online is more than enough.
Online multiplayer is there to keep people paying for the base subscription and they just launched an online multiplayer game (Splatoon 3), while also confirming online multiplayer for a free update to another popular game (Switch Sports).

People itt trying to come up with reasons that regular people like us can understand after we collectively experienced their weirdo Summer marketing. When will you learn?

Regarding the whole Metroid thing, I do wonder if Nintendo are just getting all their ducks in a row for Metroid Prime 4, and once they have a firm idea of when that's coming out, that's when we'll see Prime HD.

That's what I think as well.

DK isn't dead until we figure out what the Odyssey team has been working on or another new DK game gets announced. Both of which will inevitably happen some day.

Metroid Prime being a Twitter drop to and to release this year is a definitive “stupid” Nintendo moment. Makes no sense and just tells me that that port is pretty much just a simple remaster that was cheap to make.

Since I don’t believe that. I think we’ll see it next year if it’s a thing that exist. Maybe game award if Nintendo wants to participate in a bigger way.
I think a snowball has a better chance in Hell than a major post-Reggie Nintendo release premiering at TGA. If it exists, it's a Twitter drop

Yeah, definitely feels like the first year we are really feeling the effects of the pandemic on gaming. Almost every big game has been delayed to next year, and publishers dont have much to show/announce at these events because they are behind schedule now.

Yeah I agree expecting it to hit this year is just setting yourself up for disappointment. They would have announced it here and Fall is beyond packed already.

The main draw for the service is still online multiplayer. They just released Splatoon 3. Wave 3 Mario Kart is also soon. Their job is done. Both those will garner more resubs over and above any new additions like GB / GBA etc

Also if people are so bothered by speculation by the likes of Nate etc then just go on twitter / discord and follow the Snitch. 100% record. No speculation. There you go. Now you don't need to keep coming in here and whining constantly and making it a miserable place for those people and everyone else

I thought this... but then I remembered that NSO gives you online for Splatoon 3 (new game), MK8D (new DLC), Strikers (recent release) and Animal Crossing (still insanely popular).

So yea... a little sprinkle of N64 for Expansion NSO is kinda all they needed.

Or at least that's what Nintendo thinks.

I don't personally agree at all, but they have the numbers and would do more if they saw any sign of a dip.

This Direct was pretty good, IMO, a least if you're into weeb games. And... it's the TGS pre-show Direct, so that's about what I expected.

  • OCTOPATH 2 looks great, and I did not expect that at all
  • Fire Emblem looks fantastic, and JANUARY is a huge win
  • BOTW2 finally gets a title! TotK, and May 12th is a bit later than I hoped but still not bad at all. Trailer was very short but a date and title makes it worth it.
  • Tales of Symphonia wooooooo
  • Raincode looks fun, and it's Danganranpa-y so I'm in
  • XC3 update looks about as expected, and it's soon!
  • Ryza 3 looked good, I need to get around to Ryza 2 at some point

Overall a pretty solid Direct, although I can see being a bit disappointed if you're not into JRPGs/slice of life/farm sims.

It definitely DID seem like they're dancing around potential new hardware coming soon. Makes me wonder if they're just trying to get through this holiday season and then we'll be seeing an announcement early 2023.

I mean I do believe another DK game will be announced in my lifetime, but I’m not sure that’s an encouraging metric, lol.

It was a good direct
Pikmin 4, fire emblem engage and octopath 2 were all great announcement.
And also a final date for the new Zelda.
My only big fear is that they really don't have much to show for Zelda that's actually new and this is the game we're getting.

As disappointed as I am in not seeing a new Donkey Kong, I will say this.

OH MY GOD!!! DIDDY KONG IS IN MARIO STRIKERS!! THANK YOU NLG!!!! ♥️♥️♥️

Anyway, in the spirit of feverishly looking to next winter instead of deciding what I'm buying in the next few months:

Nintendo just parked their next mainline Fire Emblem in January and their next new mainline Zelda in May. New-generation Pokemon is November 2022, which means Pokemon in November 2023 is likely a DLC expansion. Something else big is on the cards for late 2023.

Also thought for sure they were gonna go into a GB NSO segment because the N64 lineup was… yeah 😭😭 not bad games, but half Mario party’s really shows how slim the pickings are for that system.

Post-Direct discussion can be so weird. I wonder how the discussion would be right now if we got this 21-minute Mini Direct shadow dropped:

Fire Emblem Engage (3m)
It Takes Two (1m)
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC (1 m)
Tunic (1m)
Splatoon 3 Splatfest (1m)
Octopath Traveller II (2m)
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (2m)
N64: Mario Party and Pokémon Stadium Collections (1m)
N64: Goldeneye (1m)
Mario Strikers: Battle League DLC (0,5m)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC (1m)
Pikmin 4 Teaser (0,5m)
Bayonetta 3 (2m)
Resident Evil 2, 3 & 7 Cloud Versions (1m)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe (2m)
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (1m)
Would have been a great mini. Lmao why didn't they announce it as a mini.
If they needed room for Metroid they could've reduced the airtime of Farmvalia: Harvest Quest VI
Nooo we need all the farm games we are lacking on them you cant do this on me smh.

i dont get it.

I still can't believe this image is real

To me it looks more like they're emphasising games that people might actually play online.

(edit - and let's be honest, we knew before N64 came to Switch that emulated releases for the system wouldn't be abundant)

I mean they could have dived deeper into Rare’s catalogue. Not having one of DK64/DKR/Tooie was very strange.

EDIT: Smash is also a fairly glaring omission

Yeah, clearly they have more than enough for the base, but the expansion pack I feel it would need something more to justify paying a whole new year, even if it's an old expansion pass like, for example, xenoblade 2.

That's definitely a fear of mine, but I think it's irrational. This is the longest Zelda dev cycle, and I mean, if they had minimal stuff I feel like they'd show more of it to make it seem like they had more, instead of showing as little as possible.

Let's go over this one more time:

September: 4 Square Enix Switch titles
October: 1 Square-Enix Switch title, big one
November: 2 Square-Enix Switch titles
December: 3 Square-Enix Switch titles
January: nothing, holiday month
February: 2 Square-enix Switch titles.

Further into 2023: 4 undated Switch titles

I hereby declare a Nintendo Switch name change: It'll be known as Square-Enix Switch from this day on. Any objections?

I suppose prime could be a Twitter drop because there wasn’t room in the direct?
Nintendo could always have marketed the direct as 45 minutes and had it run for like 47-48 if they wanted to show Prime. Unfortunately makes me think it's definitely not coming this year :(

I mean, the Switch's most popular game is getting regular content drops that are available through the expansion pack, including this winter. Maybe that's doing enough to sell the EP.

So what's the verdict on Easy Come Easy Golf? (Clap Hanz golf on Apple Arcade)
Had a hot shots golf on PSP and loved it, if this is good I will 100% pick it up on switch for 20 bucks today

People bought into the hype of F-Zero, Metroid, and a Zelda blow out, it didn't matter what else was shown, people were gonna be mad cause they got their expectations up for nothing.

So which of the following do we think will happen in early 2023:

1) A Switch Pro reveal highlighting the specs, followed by a traditional Feburary Direct
2) An all-in-one showcase that highlights the hardware and immediately blows the lid off some games like TotK, Prime Remake/4, etc.?

I was just about to post and say the exact same thing. It feels surreal.

Also am I missing something? People seriously didn’t like the Direct?? I thought it was pretty good! At LEAST a 7/10.
Too many farming sims and rpgs really making up the meat of the direct. There were great announcements but they were low in substance. I get it. I liked the direct but objectively I can see how meh it was.

Kinda silly to look towards February already, but this is what I would anticipate as it stands right now.
  • Tears of the Kingdom trailer (duh)
  • Xenoblade 3 Story expansion
  • A couple remasters (Metroid Prime, F-Zero GX most likely candidates)
  • Mario Baseball
  • Something fairly big (Mario or DK would be my guess)

This is the second time Nintendo has revealed a jpeg for a series with the number 4 for switch.

That’s funny
To be fair, we saw more of Pikmin 4, including footage of the game as it is, as well as news on the camera perspective shifting. It's more tangible than Prime 4, even though Prime 4 was announced over 5 years ago.

Because they also wanted to show the other 25 minutes or so (some of which I also think are exciting, like Fatal Frame, Ib, Raincode...).

Yeah. As much as I would've loved to see Metroid Prime Remaster and more Zelda stuff today, that doesn't change what was shown. Definitely a lot of it wasn't for me personally, but the stuff that was is very exciting tbh.
