The Squid Research Lab deep dive seems to suggest seperate ranks for seperate modes still exist:

How X Battles work​

You’ll have to face this challenge alone—diving in with a team of friends is not allowed.

You'll be placed on teams with seven other top performers who have a similar X Power in a particular mode.

Honestly, now that I’ve got to the point where I have to sit down and explain to people - presumably adults - why:

- A game mode available 80% of the week

And:

- Two game modes that will be available for 1 day a month at most

Are not the same, then I’m not gonna continue trying to justify my feelings about the game. I’ll buy it, I’ll enjoy it, don’t worry. But damn. Y’all clearly just want to be pedantic and annoying for the sake of it because your argument that ‘actually, the game has 3 new modes just like Salmon Run’ is flimsy as the availability of 2 of said modes is low.

It’s also hella tiring personally having my propensity for over-explanations and constant doubt consistently justified because I had the audacity of not writing a seven-page explanation every time I used the term “non-timed.”

Yes, I know one is from different eras and the other is not. However, one is based in real life and the other is not. There’s no reason why Nintendo couldn’t just invent a reason why, say, all the old maps got a redesign, or why your character’s wearing a new style. Literally none. It’s a fictional, almost-absurdist universe where anything can, and has, happened. It can choose whichever aesthetic it wanted, or change whichever things it wanted, and, as long as it kept the core identity, it would still feel like Splatoon.

Don't really have the best internet and never could get Nintendo games to work on it. So this test if it's on that new online they're doing supposedly works, then I'll try the game

I made the mistake of buying Splatoon 2 digitally and learning it wouldn't work on my internet at all
 
I will take the time between now and release to ponder whether it'd be honest to put my current Splatoon 2 rank as X in that spreadsheet even though I only achieved it in one mode and it's been a year since then and if I played today I'd barely pass as B- tier.

I guess the question is then, why isn't Splatoon jumping between eras or in some other way generating this surprise? This is Nintendo's world, they can do whatever they want, and they have decided this is what the world will be like this time. That's fine, but the answer you gave "makes sense" because Nintendo made it so, not because it's some unbending law that Splatoon progresses in this fashion or that a relatively short time having gone past => no drastic changes.

It felt incredibly fresh in 2015, but now it's less so to some; I'm fine with it, but it's not weird in the slightest to hope for more new and exciting ideas aesthetically.

It's like if you'd criticize NSMB for having too many familiar world styles (grassy, lava, desert etc.), and people go "well, Mario takes place in the Mushroom Kingdom, so it's not surprising" as if games such as Mario Galaxy or Odyssey that have very distinct aesthetics for the franchise can't exist.
 
Just want to drop into what I assume is a very chaotic thread to express pleasure that Salmon Run will now be always available. It was smart to make the timed portion a challenging version of the base experience as opposed to having the base experience being the timed bit.

I think we all can agree that the biggest unanswered question about Splatoon 3 right now is...will Squid Beatz return? Forget single player or multiplayer modes, if they don't bring back the rhythm minigame it automatically becomes Splatoon -1.5. (Unless they plan to release it as a fully fledged spinoff, then that's ok.)

Rank Points in Splatsville will increase or decrease based on wins and losses. They aren’t tied to a specific mode, so play hard and earn points while your favorites are active.

The first couple of seconds the card game was on screen I assumed it was the new lobby wait time killer ala Squid Jump.

Your post just sounded like a typical “don’t bother with the negative people (usually me lol) they can’t be reasoned with” kinda post. Yeah with NAT D I am pretty much screwed from playing Nintendo's own online games. After wasting money on Splatoon 2 digitally, I can't get excited for their online offerings anymore unless there's a demo for me to test. The promise of them having a new online a while back gives me some hope I can play the newer games

You literally can't be reasoned with though. You know what's in the game, you think it's not enough, and nothing anyone says will change that. I don't think that's irrational, however. I do think that there's no argument to be had here

I wonder if they'll have a new equivalent, but I guess allowing players to queue up into training mode while waiting for matches might have replaced those little mini-games.
 
It's funny reading comments on the new idols, because when Marina and Pearl got announced it was the same thing cause they were not Callie and Marie, and now look, Marina and Pearl are fan favorites. I expect the new ones to grow on people.

Also, #TeamPearl. Ya'll dissed the queen, and Octo showed why she is a badass!

Come on now. Saying “can’t be reasoned with” implies being unreasonable, that there’s a “reasonable” side to things that someone isn’t seeing. It doesn’t simply mean “their opinion - which is valid - won’t change.” Which is true, because people saying that “Splatoon is a linear timeline” and “actually Salmon Run and Splatfests are the same” won’t change how I feel about the aesthetic, or lack of game modes.

That and why doesn’t it apply to you, or anyone else? Why just me and (though let’s be real here, it’s me) the others who aren’t 100% hyped on the game? Why are only those you disagree with those who “can’t be reasoned with”? If you’re gonna be playing forum mediator, why not, you know, mediate both sides - instead of trying to shut those you personally dislike down and make them out to be “unreasonable”?

I'm sure there will just be Squid Beatz 3 in the plaza. It's also the game's sound test and I don't think it's going anywhere.

I think you're taking this the wrong way. I am trying to shut down the people arguing with you, because no amount of "well this mode should count" or "this mode in 2 didn't count" will change your mind about the quality of the game.

I say you can't be reasoned with because this isn't a matter of reason. It's a matter of your own opinions and expectations, independent from argument. I welcome you to continue to criticize this game, and unlike others I'd even encourage you not to waste your money on it.

I don't think your disappointment is wrong. I don't think you're obligated not to complain. I wasn't even talking to you. I was talking to the people who will continue to try to convince you to like what's been shown without presenting any new information, because there isn't any.

The difference is..... Big Man transcends all of these possibilities and travels into our hearts.

What's the positive of that? Not liking your name on the Switch and using other one? Because you won't be able to add any other users by their nickname since as it's said there nicknames are not unique, you will still need an ID (aka friend code).

What's worse, in the case you can only use the Splatoon 3 ID to add anyone and not the friend code of the Switch user, which is common to every other online game, then this is a revival of the friend codes unique for each game, like in the Wii days where you needed to add anyone by their exclusive code for each different game.

So, I don't see the point of this feature.

Eh, it counts. My A- rank is from Splat Zones, followed by a B in Clam Blitz and Tower. Tower and Splat are my favorites, especially Tower. Rain Maker stresses me out too much.

Speaking of, am I the only person who enjoys Clam Blitz? lol

I like to use my given name as my Switch name, but have always wanted something more fun for Splatoon

it may not matter to most but I'm very happy that it's in

As long as the cooldown on changing your name isn't too long I'd be perfectly happy with this too. No joke, but I've actually had people impersonate me in SoloQ, now they won't be able to bc of my discriminator tag.

I have been using this user name since 2003 when I started playing FF11 and was a college freshman. Have yet to see anyone use my username, so I am lucky right there lol
