Discussion Do you expect to see Metroid Prime 4 at Nintendo's June Direct?

It’s from Retro’s LinkedIn page. That was the best I could do.
Actually i think its higher! Kyoto report said something along of 120s, but that page hasnt been updated since 2021. Since retro has put out dozens and dozens of job hirings since then id imagine its more akin to mid 140s or low 150s

We expect Prime 1 HD to come first, also it hasnt been that long development restarted in 2019 , 3 years for what’s supossed to be one the big Nintendo games it’s not a lot.
it wasnt restarted in 2019,the restart was announced in 2019,it happened sometime between march and october 2018,plus retro was already helping while namco was the developer and it problably will reuse the engine from the metroid prime remake that started in 2017

I expect they will say that development is going well and later in the year there will be more info on it. That will be the first real showing of the game on the TGA.

The sad thing is that I think that that soundsoptimistic lol

There's absolutely no chance that they announce Metroid Prime HD without teasing MP4. It's been over 3 years since the reboot, and we've already done the whole "we're not ready to show MP4 today but here's something eise instead!" thing with Dread. Not to mention Metroid Prime 4 is a direct sequel to Metroid Prime HD.... I just can't see it.

I like this train of thought but it has me wondering if we've gotten this "we're working on it/here's something to tide you over for now" treatment from Nintendo twice in a row before? Possibly something Zelda related I'd imagine.

i don’t see Nintendo doing the “we know you’re waiting on Prime 4, but here’s this game” twice, especially since Metroid Prime is actually related to Prime 4. It’s much easier to do a teaser now to tie in with Metroid Prime Remaster.

I meant, in 2020 with AoC and in 2021 when they announced SS remastered
so you're saying...

as long as they announce MP1 Remastered....

Maybe they'll prove me wrong, but my point is, that Nintendo has done it before. Saying, we know you want to see this, but here's this instead"
I honestly don't think they'll talk about MP4 if they don't plan on showing it. and at that, I don't think they won't show it if they show MP1.

Yeah I guess haha
I’m tired of imagining what Nintendo games COULD look like if they weren’t 540p

Plus Metroid DESERVES IT
watch the tradeoff be 30fps

Prime 4 is absolutely going to be 30FPS. If dread, a far less technically demanding game, has semi-frequent frame drops to 40 there's no way in hell prime 4 is going to be 60fps
I genuinely hope it's 30fps. I honestly think it'll be a cross gen title, so it stands to gain more. that said I think Retro would be more devoted to less framerate variation than MercurySteam adapting their multiplatform engine for a Switch exclusive

All 3 Prime games have been 60fps though. It could go either way, but I think 60fps has a solid chance. Perhaps between switch and switch 2 versions are that switch resolution goes to 720p-900p docked, while 2 is native 2-4k.

I like to think that just maybe they will let us toggle it. Y know, the classic "performance and visual options". Cause while i dont care about 60fps as much as decent re, i understand why people would be disappointed if it was 30fps

But i also dont want it to be a blurry mess and im sure neither does retro. I want to be able to see the amazing environments they will come up with. They are (or at least were) one of the most, if not the most skilled developer when it came to technical stuff at nintendo, so even if they dont let us choose between performance and visuals, i think they will manage a surprisingly balanced game : )

Lots of is this switch pro comments incoming.

Ok i want to add a normal smiley face but it keeps turning into this ugly emoji smh

Prime 1-3 had the privilege of being in SD and on some of the most powerful SD hardware ever. In contrast, the switch is one of the weakest HD systems.

I'm almost certain Prime 4 will be a 60 FPS game. The first three just feel so fluid to play, thanks to that 60. Hopefully they can find a way to make it all work out.

It really depends on the developers decisions here. We haven't had a fps Metroid prime game since the Wii days. They can make it however they want. You do know know that 1080p 60fps switch games exist, right? They just scale back on detail and/or resolution

I really do think they could go either way with 60fps it 30fps. And Retro Studios have made 60fps games outside MP series as well. Like Some of the DKCR games (tropical freeze) for example.

Part of the reason I'd rather they go 30fps is to have more dynamic environments. The games' environments are pretty static, when allows the to bake in a lot of effects. I want Retro to play around with light more

I feel like we might see Metroid Prime 4 earlier than some other games they like to show like half a year before release simply because it was announced and canned already. I feel like a teaser trailer is likely, but I also won't be surprised if it doesn't show up there.

Sure they could do whatever but being realistic i'll be shocked if it hits 60

What, you guys didn't see it? You missed out! It was pretty cool. My favorite part was when Metroid finally crawled.

Did I say June earlier in this thread? I meant September, yes. lol

Ok, while a June Direct never materialized, I do ultimately stand by my general sentiment that the next big Nintendo show will show Metroid Prime 4 and the Metroid Prime remaster together. More than enough time has passed and they did update their social media with new artwork. When they talk about 2023 games, they are going to set Prime 4 up as one of the pillars next year. It might just be a teaser, and I expect it to be, but we’ll see it.

Hopefully we see it in September? More people are getting hired for it, at least recently
They've been hiring people for it for the entire development cycle, it's just how things work these days.

I'm expecting it, but I'm also expecting to be disappointed when it doesn't show up lol.

When we finally see footage of the game, all I really want is to see Samus in a cool new suit.

Yup I fully expect to see an awesome new suit and maybe a look at either the planet if it’s larger than past games or a new enemy if that’s more of the focus. Either way I can’t wait to see it!

I hope they don't redesign the Varia Suit again, just for the hell of it. Retro made some adjustments between Prime 1 and 2 (which I consider improvements), but then the Prime 2 look went on to be used in 3, and Federation Force, so it's been fairly consistent, which I appreciate!

I dunno, I just feel almost as though the Varia Suit is tampered with too often. Metroid 2 already got it right, a looooong time ago:
Retro has been quite faithful in adapting this look for 3D, but I find the Other M and Samus Returns takes on the Varia Suit to be a George Lucas-esque attempt at tampering with something that really didn't need to be tampered with. If you wanna do new things with Samus's look, make entirely new suits!

The marketing and art stuff for all the Prime games are pretty much exclusively in the Varia Suit if I'm not mistaken. I imagine they'll want that recognizability again.

Sure we'll get cool new suits in the game proper though
wouldn't bet on that after Dread. If they have a cool story reason for a new suit they will show it in the trailer for sure.

But tbh I don't care either way. Just wanna know the scope of the game, the scale, the locations etc.

Totally agreed. Prime 2 Varia is essentially perfect to me.

It just depends on when in the timeline they set the game and if it continues to be some kind of largely seperate narrative from the events of Fusion onward.

It would be pretty crazy if Prime 4 Samus is post-Fusion/Dread.

The big hope, I guess, is that they do more than acknowledge its existence and continued development when revealing Prime 1. And that would depend mostly on how close it is to release, whether that release window is more or less locked down internally, and how they want to coordinate its reveal with any possible future hardware, if at all.

After everything this game has been through, I don't think they'll want it formally revealed unless their plan for its rollout is secure and somewhat within sight.
