So for real, what characters do we want playable in the next Smash?

I got Hero, Sora, Joker, Pyra, Ridley, plus Shulk back in 4.

I’m good tbh.

Add Chosen Undead and a Rhythm Heaven character and I’m entirely done. All my favourites are here pretty much. It’s actually surreal how well the picks were catered to me.

All original characters and story cut from the game because Disney won’t let them interact with Elsa at all.

If you play Elsa in Smash you can only select the Frozen stage and other Frozen characters. The rest is locked out.
Also you can’t attack her, all attacks don’t make contact.

I got King K. Rool, Ridley, Banjo, Sephiroth and Sora so getting 5 characters I wished for this game was great.

I'm still sour we got Hero and not Slime. I mean look at my boi:

After K. Rool, Banjo and Ridley the vast majority of my longterm dream wishlist characters are already in the game, and I can't think of any additions that would be as exciting as those three. That said, Eggman is definitely the character I'd like to see most next. Then probably Dixie Kong. But it's hard to conceptualize what I want for the next Smash when we don't even have the faintest idea what it will look like.

Got three fights in, Sora is super fun! I would have preferred he was more KH2-like in his attacks and feel (his midair jump is particularly weird), but overall I still like him a lot. Just surreal having Sora, Hollow Bastion, and KH music (Destati! Scherzo Di Notte!) in Smash.

Everybody is here for reals now!!

Love all the classic mode and spirit battle references!

This Roxas spirit battle difficulty is in line with the KH2 boss fight it represents lmao

Sora seems pretty darn good at first glance?
  • Fast fall NAir1 leads into like...anything, even at 999% lol
  • Down tilt > Upsmash kill confirm is true at around 120%
  • Edgeguarding seems REALLY good with his great recovery.
  • Good damage/combos
  • I really like Thundaga
  • Backthrow kills okay

And overall a ton of fun so far! I'll try and keep him on my rotation with Mythra/Pyra, Link, Cloud and Shulk lol.
 
Yeah, Sora is tons of fun. Did his classic mode then hopped online with friends after that.

Sora seems pretty solid at a glance. Yeah, he's floaty and lightweight, but has very good combo utility and damage. Can't see him being lower than A-tier honestly.
 
Sora's really fun. His damage output is really good, his combo gimmick feels real nice, and the edgeguarding game is a thing of beauty. So so glad he's in and i'm definitely going to main him alongside Pyra/Mythra

Woke up at 3 am to try Sora out hehe and after playing classic mode and a match against Sephiroth i went back to bed for a bit.

Did two online matches on quick play with Sora and now he's in Elite Smash. Phew. I finally got all the characters I want into Elite Smash. Time to 100% spirits after I come back from work.

on the competitive side I like how almost every top player think Sora is bad, but their judgement on how viable a character is almost never right

They also thought Byleth, Min Min, and even Joker to be mediocre at first , same with some of the base characters like GnW , then when some top player start doing well with them they start screaming the character is BS and unfair lol they have no self awareness it seems

Not feeling Sora so far personally, I think it's the extra floaty double jump that's putting me off. Seems a fun final addition at least.

On the topic of high tier characters I was wandering down the YouTube rabbit hole recently and came across some videos of Smash pros discussing top tier characters and was surprised to see Palutena on the list. I mean, I'm not complaining as she's one of my mains, but when did that happen?

Palutena's been one of the strongest characters in the game since release, it was in Smash 4 where she sucked
 
Debating if I'll get the Fighter Pass 2 in the next couple of days... it's still too expensive for me, but now I kinda want to complete the set;

I think my only complaint with Sora is he didn't come with even more of the original songs in KH lol. Might be my favorite of the DLC additions that isn't Hero.

Fair enough then, haven't been paying too much attention to the elite scene since Smash 4. Funny what happens when you give her a distinct moveset and she isn't basically an advert for the custom move mechanic.

I really hope they do a deluxe version for Switch 2. Add a couple of new fighters (Jill Valentine and Alucard are my wants), a few stages, modes and rollback. Sit back and watch it sell millions just like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I wish more people had fun in my local scene (New York City) but really, people come to stomp when they step outside their homes LMAO. I just don't find 1v1 very fun at all, Smash was always best with hectic four players and lots of items IMO.

Just a different mentality I suppose! Love the game regardless.

Joker alone topped me out on Smash hype. Getting Hero, Min-Min, Sephiroth, and Sora on top was just icing on the cake.

The possibility of a Smash Ultimate Special on the next Console, with the possibility of improvements and extra bonus elements in addition to everything being on cart is one of the things that's holding me back from grabbing a Switch now that I've made it so long without one.

That and the prospect of different games running better.

But Dread is calling.
Among other things.
