Reviews Xenoblade Chronicles 3 | Review Thread (see staff post)

I wish the Switch being so outdated and struggling tech-wise didn't have any impact at all in the reviews. I know some of them ignore it (or, rather, take it into account), but it still seems to be affecting some of them and it's annoying imo. Like could even Monolith Soft do much better on this hardware? Really?
The technical issues on resolution and such are only the Switch's fault, nothing else
But they affect the game. Officially, the game is played only on this hardware, so of course how it runs is part of the reviews. Not sure what you're getting at really

The entire GI review is weird. The comparision to tales of Arise in particular as tome of the praise for that, like character and story, we're mostly complaints in other reviews.
Even then, nothing in the review seems to indicate a 7.25.
Arise is somehow one of the most beginner friendly JRPG this generation. A lot of none/ new JRPG player somehow connect to Arise and FF7 Remake.

I have heard a lot of people who've played both describe xb3 as "Arise but good" so this isn't too surprising

Glad to see so much positivity, only lightly browsed the blurbs cause I’m already sold and hype on this game, can’t wait for friday

When someone puts such a different score towards a game without really showing why they do so. I wonder if they do it to just be controversial and get people to talk about that website.
After going through the review, that was the conclusion I came down to unless he played a different game...

Also they mentioned "predictable plot twists" or something along those lines.

Quite interesting for someone to throw out the word 'dumb', in a Metacritic thread, in defence of a series where the first entry scored 92 and the second scored 83 — a 9 point drop.

Being such a try-hard who needs your opinion known so badly that you have to state it at the top of the metacritic thread for a different game is more "pathetic and obsessive" than "dumb", I'd say

I think fans tend to go way too hard on review publications for "low" scores, but that GI review is just...off. Only 8 paragraphs, most of which flies against what seems to be the general consensus.

Different strokes for different folks on the latter point I guess.

88 is really great. I don't want to read the reviews, so I'll just read the summaries. I'm so hyped for this, I'll try to finish 2 and Torna ASAP so I can dive into this.

And I'm really looking forward to what Monolith is going to do next. I hope it's a new IP and X2 at least.

Hey guys quick question: I‘ve played trough the first game on Wii (and X to some degree) and like them a lot. 3 looks super interesting, especially that NintendoLife review sold me. But I tried to play the second one and it was impossible for me to get trough that game because of the cast. Have you seen reviews that are saying it is no problem to skip the second game? I don‘t really care if I get spoilered of previous story arcs as long as it gets explained well enough and you can play 3 without any previous knowledge.

Ok why now it has 89 metascore with the same numbers of reviews it had when it was at 88?
Shroedinger xenoblade: the game with 55 reviews has both an 88 and 89 as a metascore

Metascore webpage is awful it probably largged and didnt update properly when it had 55 scores at first

metacritic is just terrible about this when reviews first come out. right now it's showing 89 with 64 reviews for me.

Damn that NkntendoLife review. Outstanding combat and narrative? Please I need to play this right now.

And if the story expansion is as good as Torna this will be one for the ages.

I'm 5 hours in and you don't need to play any of the Xenoblades imo. Just little nods here and there at the moment.

The cast in tone is much more in line with the first game. I personally liked the cast more in 2 than 1, but I absolutely love the cast in 3 so far.

This game really has nothing in common with Arise other than also being a JRPG with anime character designs. This is like calling Zelda “Disney’s Robin Hood but good” because the main characters both wear green tunics.

(only cited Disney because I’m too much of a dullard to know if the character always dresses as such)

89 MC at 64 reviews, I'm really feeling it

Still promised myself I wouldn't start playing it until Live A Live is completed. I beat Imperial China last night, 4 out of 7 chapters complete, and about 7.5-8 hours in. I'm cruising. Feel like I'm gearing up for a rather lengthy endgame if the average playtime of 20-30 hours is to be believed.

Did they even play it. Damn.

It reads to me like someone who simply doesn't gel with Xenoblade; their main criticisms are the environments and the main gameplay loop.
So I guess this is the nintendo game of the year candidate in the kheigley show. From not even being seen with xeno2 this would be a huge jump
It could easily be either Bayonetta 3 or Splatoon 3. Bayonetta 2 was a GOTY nominee in 2014 despite Mario Kart 8 launching that year.

Please see the threadmarked staff post. Thank you.
