Yes, metacritic scores are meaningless for remakes, which are usually penalised temporally because story moments do not hit as hard or because state-of-the-art features have since become the status quo. Take also into account games such as Tropical Freeze, rightly given average scores by big publications (Edge, 7; Eurogamer, 7) on launch, but, in Eurogamer's case, were pressured by the fans to 'correct' their original opinion, lest face the wrath of the community (not that it saved TF in the end, mind).
To pretend that the 9 point drop from 92 to 83 isn't a fall from grace is ludicrous — that is two points greater difference between the 7 points dropped between Halo 3 and 4, and we've all seen the state the Halo series is in now.
