Discussion Nintendo privates the Switch OLED Model trailer on YouTube

Status
Not open for further replies.
French & Spanish trailers are still up.

Nintendo Private, for people who like to play their Nintendo Switch in Private places.

Video starts with the sound of a toilet flush.
Reggie gets out of the toilets.
- Pfiew, I needed that. And it was fun.

Nintendo Private, 499 $, preorder opens tomorrow.

Oh.

There are things that could be possible indications, but come on, we are already reaching a limit.

We're going to get a Switch 2 reveal this week and the trailer will casually have Nate playing Metroid Prime and Zelda in 4K while grinning at the camera.

What other reasons would there be for them making the video private? NoJ not doing the same thing though makes me feel it’s not for something major.

New commercials to announce new bundles exclusives of NA, for example.
The simplest explanation, if you don't believe new hardware is being announced, is "nothing" -- not a new SKU/special edition. The latter wouldn't warrant making the video private. The Lite had new colors/editions announced and its trailer wasn't made private (until the OLED was announced).

When it's imminent we'll have all the gaming media folks (Eurogamer, IGN...) on Twitter being "very subtle" about it.
I can't remember but was there "subtlety" ahead of the OLED reveal?

It was practically an open secret among everyone that they were going to announce new hardware. There were even journalists like Jason talking about how they were showing M+R 2 on new hardware.

To be fair that was like 3-4 weeks before it was announced, not imminently before.

Cant wait for the: "New Switch soon?" vids soon.

If they had something why not do it next Tuesday, since this is a short week

3 or 4 weeks it's not a lot. If they managed to make it secret until now and no game site is reporting, I admire Nintendo Ninjas.

They tend to private videos if they think it will confuse people searching for a new as-yet unreleased video. Like, if there's a Direct on February 8th 2038 and they're about to do a direct on February 8th 2040 they might private the 2038 video because when searching "February 8th direct" that one could come up first.

Assuming our Mutant Ant overlords allow Google to exist in the year 2038.
I, for one, welcome our new Mutant Ant overlords! :ROFLMAO:
it is probably nothing
Or, it isn't probably not nothing...or isn't it?!
Perfect!! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah that's what I wanted to know. So the announcement day itself was a surprise to everyone?
Yes, and people had actually started forgetting about all that talk from the previous weeks after nothing was announced at E3. Remember the reports that third parties expected to show off their games in 4k at E3? Most of that talk about a new model was from the week(s) before E3.

Well the major difference in this case would be the lack of production reports. Last year the OLED model was getting ready to begin production, and they had to source a new manufacturer for screens (for obvious reasons). If there is a new model this year it's entirely possible (not guaranteed of course) that:

 • Production hasn't started yet and won't start for a little while longer, maybe signalling a later November launch (rather than early October)
 • Most of the major components are the same between the OLED and 4k models
 • They've heavily cracked down on leaks, especially from China, as Nintendo actually did indicate in the recent Q&A
 • Reporters are not asking their sources about this (possibly because the subject has become a bit toxic in the fandom)

It was practically an open secret among everyone that they were going to announce new hardware. There were even journalists like Jason talking about how they were showing M+R 2 on new hardware.
People started talking about the release of new hardware ahead of the OLED reveal, but there wasn't anything close to an "open secret" about its reveal timing. Few people had anything to say on that front, apart from some initial speculation that it might happen before E3. It was also mixed up with "Switch Pro" stuff that turned out to be wrong (such as M+R2). The Lite on the other hand had no chatter at all before its reveal. Its existence was reported on earlier in the year by Bloomberg and confirmed with a photo leak, but nobody called out a July announcement before it happened.

I would say we're in a pretty similar situation now. Bloomberg reported on it some time back, its existence is known to several people, but no one can speak to the announcement timing because Nintendo can hold that as close to the chest as they need to.

Can’t wait for the reveal to somehow be Switch Lite OLED and all the “anger” that is going to bring
I'm skeptical that a Lite OLED model needs its own announcement video. Well, I'm skeptical of the whole concept of yet another Mariko model after the OLED. I could see Lite OLED being a Drake die shrink in the future.

I wonder if NoA jumped the gun a bit due to the holiday weekend. Only reason I can think of for why that OLED video is private, but the rest are not as of yet. Outside of just being a mistake of course.

If Bloomberg drop another Switch Pro article tomorrow then I’ll believe it more, I’m airing on the side of ‘this isn’t for anything big’ due to the fact EU and Japanese Nintendo channels still have the videos live.

Could be a time zone thing, and UK and Japan will do it within the next 12 or so hours.

It's happening, isn't it?
Nintendo Switch+
Features :
 • Improved nVidia SoC (codename : Zod from the Donner Cut)
 • V-Sync is now pernamently deactivated to introduce screen tearing even in handheld mode (*).
 • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild now runs at 32 FPS with a frame pacing that would make Bloodborne laugh.
 • Input lag improved. Now it lags even more than before.
 • No more Joy Con drift, tho !

If the PS5 and Series X games still have screen tearing in 2022, then the Switch shouldn't be an exception

$499?

Well, that's only if you choose the OLED version. The standard version comes with the GameCom quality screen.

Doesn't the day start earlier in Japan and UK than in NA? It would make more sense for them to do it first, not later.
Depends on which day they want to do it, it doesn't have to be the 5th everywhere. Maybe they wanted to do it in the US first because something relevant would be happening earlier in the day in the US tomorrow so they'd have an easier time getting it done during the work day today.

It looks like the UK Lite reveal video is down, if this is the right link?
Lite video has been down for about a year, it was removed shortly after the OLED model was announced.

Or someone there is just having a laugh because of people trying to make a deal about the lite trailer non-story a few days ago.

But I could see a Nintendo Switch SP. Clamshell screen, missing headphone jack, that kind of thing.

Eh hard to imagine someone fucking around on a corporate channel like that unless it's their last day lol.

Honestly, the fact that it hasn't leaked probably means that whatever it is isn't very different from the original model. If there was something very different being manufactured, I'm sure someone would have posted a picture online or talked to a news outlet about it. Because surely whatever is is should be being manufactured by now if it's releasing in the next few months. But if it's just like a cheaper lite or a lite with an oled screen or whatever I could see that not leaking.
