Rumour Metroid Prime remaster/remake planned for 2022 (UPDATE: new rumor from Jeff Grubb, see threadmarks)

They could always do a Metroid Prime 2 and 3 double pack, just higher resolution with some new textures here and there and the menus redone.

In no universe Metroid Prime Remake is a "big holiday game". Especially if you compare it to Pokemon S/V.

Worst timeline

Hopefully once all three of these full priced “Bluepoint style remasters” that I won’t play comes out, we actually get Prime 4 and fans stop being insecure on the future of the series

that's always been the rumor since day 1 when we found out about these games getting new releases.
So would this mean that MP1 is receiving improved graphical assets instead of just a resolution bump and new controller schemes/balancing?

That's not the case. The source of these rumors stated that Retro was originally doing the whole trilogy, but when Prime 4 shifted from Bandai to Retro the plan was changed to just have Retro finish 1, then outsource 2 and 3 with 1 serving as the template/benchmark. If 2 and 3 are getting a lesser remaster treatment than 1, that's new info.

yeah. i'm thinking MP1 is getting something like the demon's souls ps3->ps5 treatment, same game but with completely new assets. and apparently 2 and 3 are just uprezzed with better textures, and controls reworked for switch.

really? i could have sworn i read a long time ago about i getting an actual remaster while the other two are getting more basic re-releases.

I was hoping for a 2023 MP4 release, but that seems unlikely if 2/3 come next year. Jeez, if it's 2024, that would make 5 years since the reboot and 7 years since the first announcement. Crazy how even both BOTW games could end up having a shorter reveal to release periods.

I am kinda dying to find out now because a remaster is exciting, but something on this level would be earth shattering.

It's one my favorites of all-time. To replay it again with a legit facelift done by Retro themselves would be a dream come true.

Late 2023 Prime 1 , early 2023 Prime 2+3 and late 2023 Prime 4.
🙏

It's better than them releasing a poor game. They did the right thing.

The verbatim wording was:
So the new plan became for them to just finish up the first game, then Nintendo would contract out the work for the subsequent games to be redone by other studios with the Prime 1 remake serving to establish the visual bar and style for other studios to emulate.

If i heard everything right, Nintendo Will focus on First party games for 2022 in July. Maybe a Mini Direct , maybe some shadowdrop trailer. We should see Metroid, and maybe even Advance Wars and Bayonetta 3 release dates. This would be neat to me. Seems logical, if you think about It; Zelda Is a massive title that won't be released before March/April, so a Summer Direct with Splatoon 3, Pokémon, Metroid Remake etc on the Horizon would be pointless.

ah, that makes sense. well, the other two games getting the same amount of work put into them is nothing but good news, i hope whoever is in charge of those does a good job.
Well that's why I mentioned it, because it sounds like Grubb is saying 2 and 3 aren't getting the same amount of work. That would be new information and a change from the original plan.

Yup. Was recently discussed here in May, too, in the Metroid Prime 4 at E3 thread.
Indeed. It's great to hear somebody confidently say that they've heard it's still 2022 as well after your and Emily's prior info.

Was this perhaps the thing you heard but couldn't confirm with your sources? And purely based on speculation, do you imagine 2 and 3 remasters/uprezzes would also release before Prime 4? It definitely makes sense as a hype path toward Prime 4.

EDIT: Saw you quoted my post in the other thread about what you couldn't confirm. Hopefully that 1st-party-centric Mini comes true! Thanks for the clarification.

No matter how good the original was, and no matter how pretty the new visuals will be, an allegedly 1:1 remake of a GameCube game is pretty weak as big holiday title. I hope that they have something else. Something new.

Releasing each game individually before Prime 4 feels weird to me. That's three retail releases in a relatively short time, and a fourth a bit after. That's asking a lot for consumers. And if 2 and 3 are bundled then that's a weird bundle.

Honestly if I were Nintendo I'd just release 1 before 4. It's nice and clean that way. Dumping a whole series before a new one feels unlike them.

It's Pokemon S/V

Pokémon is the big holiday game.

They do. It's new Pokemon and Bayo 3. Along with Splatoon in September, which will undoubtedly get a major holiday push.

I don't really care about MP1 or 2 because I beat those years ago but I am looking forward to playing through 3 and am glad it looks like the entire Trilogy will be coming to Switch.

Nobody can say that Nintendo doesn't give a shit about Metroid anymore.

Dread got the OLED slot, and now MP1 remaster is a major holiday title, with 2 and 3 coming to pave the wave for Metroid Prime 4. It's beautiful 😍

I dont believe grub. I'll see when it happens i suppose.

3 doesnt needs to get a heavy uplift its peak retro's visual design, if it was hd it would surpass some of the early ps3/360 games. Echoes kinda ugly tho and man that game will suffer for this lol

About sales, that's ridiculous. SMT V released in november right on the side of pokemon and went on to sell a million copies, i dont understand how a much stronger game.

i don't think nintendo is positioning this as their "big holiday game", that's just what grubb is saying. the big holiday game is clearly pokemon.

Can anyone grab up that lenghty post from ERA again which talked pretty in-depth about the Remaster/Remake?

Wouldn't be a bit weird if MP1 gets a big work remaster, making it close to a remake (like Crisis Core) and then 2 and 3 also got rereleased but with just a resolution bump, or something not close to that MP1? 🤔
It isn't that rare really, in fact is pretty common for series that only the most popular entry gets special treatment and the others get just ports/hd versions.

Are you the actual Gengar?
I mean, there are others. But I am from Gen I Kanto, so I like to think I'm the real deal.
Late 2023 Prime 1 , early 2023 Prime 2+3 and late 2023 Prime 4.
🙏
Possible if they release 2/3 together, but I'm not sure that will happen. I like the optimism.
It's better than them releasing a poor game. They did the right thing.
Yeah I'm not questioning the delay. It just sucks that it's taking so long. I'm sure it will be a great game in the end.

Frankly to me it seems that in the Prime 2 and 3 will be remastered...but in the future loke after Prime 4

That's pretty much what happened with Wind Waker HD vs. Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword HD.

I assume this’ll be announced in the 6/29 direct?

edit: this is in reference to the leaked 6/29 direct that is seemingly false and to maybe not trust leakers
