It's a Direct Mini Partner. Doesn't mean Nintendo has no presence. Just means they are not the focus.
Different question Nate than my previous one. When you say "Doesn't mean Nintendo has no presence", do you mean actual in house development like a Metroid Prime DE/HD or Nintendo presence in the way Mario + Rabbids or a Bayonetta 3 is technically Nintendo being present?

i would have been annoyed at a mini focussing on 3rd party games, if the lineup for the rest of year wasn't already so packed. i'm hopeful that the september show would be one of the best directs ever tho.

Having just played AI The Somnium Files on Series S due to gamepass (great game btw everyone should play it), not having the Switch's portability drove me absolutely crazy, to the point I almost stopped the game >5 hours in to start over again on Switch. At the end of the day I got a series S to be a gamepass machine and it was perfect for that, but I'd buy the sequel on Switch even if the sequel was day 1 on gamepass. Portability is far more valuable for me then graphics.
Right here. Even though I just ordered a PS5, I travel for work, so having the switch option is essential for me. Plus things like RPGs, VN, puzzle games just work better in the handheld for me. I’ll take the graphical compromise as long as performance is mostly good to have that ease of use for my circumstances.

I can't believe you would post such a blatant lie

We're video game fans, we don't "play" video games, we just whine about them on the internet and watch others play them on Twitch and Youtube

:p
Nope, I’m going to actually work on FEWTH and Digimon cyberslueth. It’s hot and I don’t have any active projects

Unsure. I've heard a few things that I have not yet been able to confirm but I'm thinking a first-party Direct may still come this summer. As to why they are spacing things out... who knows.
Well, the week after Splatoon 3 releases is technically still Summer!

Can they at least just announce the next slate of N64 games for NSO? Would be good timing considering they've finally released all of the first wave (besides the Custom Robos which are Japan only) that was promised back in September last year.

I’m still expecting it. Could easily be in the direct too since it’s a mix of first and third party regardless of form

I definitely don't look back too fondly on Partners from a personal perspective. I was happy for MegaTen fans when that dropped, but I didn't get a single thing that I was interested in from them.

But I'm deciding to go in on this with at least a little shred of hope that something cool night turn up. Not interested in M+R, but maybe there's something that potentially have me hooked.

I'll hold on to that :)

I mean it makes sense. A lot of Nintendo's stuff for the summer and early fall is already set in stone. I know there was a bit of disagreement over the idea that Nintendo didn't "need" to have a general, but it was true regardless of how much we want one. There are third-party stuff we don't have clear answers about like Sparks of Hope, Bayonetta 3 and these Persona games.

I presume the September Direct is still going to happen and that would likely be for 1st party stuff.

I couldn't care less about Mario Rabbids, but I Guess sometimes you win sometimes you get the L. Hope to hear more about Bayonetta 3 during the Summer.

Well, sure it's a disappointed with all the hype that for begin to a freaking Partner Showcase, don't get me wrong, I'm glad that we get at least anything, but yeah...
I really hope we get some random, Twitter - Annoucement for the Nintendo Big Stuff,, it will be wired if don't get some infos an Nintendo second Half-Year.

So then adjusting expectations:

Mario+Rabbids 2 (could be august)
Bayonetta 3 (is not first party, could totally be possible for October)
Persona (3P, 4G, 5R?)
Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters???? Finally? Please? (Lol no)
Batman Arkham series
Sonic Frontiers
Hogwarts Legacy?
Goldeneye NSO/Remastered
Silksong date?

Could still be filled with a lot of stuff.

If Nintendo themselves has some presence, I echo the Switch Sports, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, and Mario Strikers updates. Maybe an announcement of a Splatoon 3 Direct.

You can be angry about the fact that there's no General/First Party filled mini, or you can accept the fact that it was always going to be this way and whatever we say isn't going to change anything about it. It's not like Generals are gone forever, they'll be back come September and we can hype for them again when the time comes!

i'm still surprised people consider games not first party just because they're developed by third party studios. that is like most of nintendo's output. smash, kirby, fire emblem, even games like link's awakening. bayonetta 3 is a first party game.

I would think you are setting setting yourself up for disappointment. It's a partner Direct after all. A new FE will surely be saved for a general.
Nate said there could be Nintendo presence. We don't have a leaked "big" third party game to close the Direct atm, Fire Emblem sounds like perfect closer. I can't think of anything else. Maybe Megaman?
There's definitely truth in that. How memorable a Nintendo Direct is for many people is largely determined by a select few franchises. Mario, Zelda, and Smash Bros. I don't even think reveals of Animal Crossing or Mario Kart games would be as hype for many hardcore Nintendo fans, even though those franchises appeal to a wider audience.
As someone who wants Nintendo to focus on new IP's more than anything, this makes me sad. Nintendo fandom is sequel obsessed, and only in for select few IP's as you mentioned. Those fans of bigger IP's can get pretty deadly at times, their uncontrolled hype can kill other franchises. Like Twilight Princess absolutely murdering Elite Beat Agents, both came out in the same month.

For me EBA is one of near perfect games Nintendo has ever published and Twilight Princess is a nostalgia ridden, mediocre adventure.

It's gonna be focused on 3rd party games because Nintendo is finally going 3rd party.

This feels somewhat reasonable to me.

I bet Splatoon 3 will get a dedicated Direct.

It really isn’t though. They don’t own any part of Bayonetta. Nintendo owns Kirby and Fire Emblem.

No BotW 2 hurts the most.
Last E3 I thought "well can't wait for next E3 :)"

And now I have to hope that its showing up at all in september. lol

Bayonetta 3 is a different case though. IP is owned by SEGA, developed by Platinum Games and funded by Nintendo.

Partner Direct possibilities:
  • Persona series
  • Mario & Rabbids 2
  • Bayonetta 3
  • 2008 multiplatform port
  • Sonic Frontiers
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Silksong
  • Goldeneye
  • Portal collection
  • Overwatch 2
  • Sports Story
  • Square Enix (Live la Live, etc.)
  • Something from Nintendo (MP remaster?)
  • ?????

Could be a good show everyone. Just gotta change your expectations!

And we know Nintendo has to at least reveal the new FE at some point, so maybe we will get a more first-party focused Direct before September. If not, September will be one hell of a show!

is spiderman (and miles morales/2/wolverine) not a first party sony game? they publish the games, and own all the rights to it. just because a game is made with a licensed IP doesn't mean it's not first party.

The BotW2 wait has been by far the most excruciating wait for a mainline Zelda. Not that it's the longest wait, but because it has nothing short of ridiculous potential.

And I have a summer full of work and boredom ahead of me. Yay.

If the Direct is branded as a Partner, I will think Nintendo really wants to piss their fans off.
No. They don't care about us at all. They care about our money, and they're doing a third party focused showcase, probably due to some contract agreements and because they want to showcase games coming to their platform so we can spend our money and give it to them.

Here's all the reasons it won't be a partner:
1 - We don't have a partner direct since October 2020.
2 - The partners direct only existed because of covid time contratual obligations with third parties, since they had to show third party games but most of the 1st party games were delayed
3 - There were no general directs in 2020, and do you really believe a company would prefer to show their game in a partner direct than in a general one?
4 - There's still a lot of 1st party things to show, such as Grezzo's new game and the rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy, and they wouldn't hold that to the september direct.
5 - Sony will have a 1st party showcase one day before the direct, they wouldn't let Sony just straight up obstruct all of their information. If it was a partner direct in the same week as a big Sony event, all eyes would be on Sony.
6 (BONUS) - The reception to the partner showcases were VERY negative, there would be A LOT of backlash if another one happened

Nintendo is both fully funding the game's development and publishing it worldwide. It is a first-party game despite not owning the license. It's the same with Sony and the Spider-Man games even before the Insomniac purchase.

I already had 50/50 for BotW 2 in a general because we got the update and they showed new footage. It told me they didn’t have to show anything in June and could wait.

Here's all the reasons it will be a partner:
1. Actual journalist have confirmed they heard its going be partner.

Nintendo saving the Persona 3/4 ports in retrospect doesn't bode well for much happening here. No way Bayonetta 3 will show up.

It would not surprise me in the least that Nintendo is taking their current approach because of these expectations.

Anything general will live or die by whether or not BoTW2 is shown.

That's the other thing, Nintendo's second half 2022 is really stacked. Be it 1st party exclusives like Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade 3, day 1 multiplatform titles like Sonic Frontiers (lets just hope this is good...) and Monster Hunter Sunbreak, exciting ports/localizations like Trails from Zero and No Man's Sky, and cool indies like Gunvolt 3 and Freedom Planet 2, there's a lot to play. I feel like if you can't find several games in the back half of this year that don't interest you on Switch then you have to be a very "picky eater" so to speak.
Nope, I’m going to actually work on FEWTH and Digimon cyberslueth. It’s hot and I don’t have any active projects
I thought you had dozens of X-Men United minis to paint? Sounds like you're putting off an active project right there :p

Sony is reportedly having an event on Thursday, so it's after the Partner Showcase.

Nah. It can happen if Nintendo wants it to happen. We can make up whatever reasons we want in our head for it to not happen again, but if Nintendo wants it they will do it.

If the Direct is branded as a Partner, I will think Nintendo really wants to piss their fans off.

Nintendo don't care about your feelings, one way or another.

Edit: or anyone's for that matter. The bottom line is what they care about. Whether a Direct is something that makes us happy, angry etc -it's irrelevant.
