So a Partner Direct? Yeah...my hype just went out the window.

Fom a full 40 minute General Direct + multiple days of Treehouse in previous years to now just a 15-20 minute Partner Direct.

For what it's worth, I have reason to believe a Mario movie trailer is imminent.
I wondered if Nintendo would feature that in the Direct. Would be one more reason for late June and if they're willing to use the Direct for the cast announcement, why not use it for the first footage for the film?

Look a mini direct isnt bad thing to have unlike the ones we had in 2020 we probably get a few smaller title announced and updates on already existing titles. In hindsight Nintendo could of say no in June all togther becuase of no E3 but doing this instead of them not showing up is a good compromised. September/October direct is probably going be packed with first party content that would of been considerd in an June showcase along with first half of 2023 titles.

If you had no idea about the show and it dropped next week as a Partner... would people be down on it?
Respectfully, I think they would, as evidenced by the later ones in 2020.

For some reason that I cannot quite ascertain, people want and expect news about Nintendo. I for one think that whatever is left to announce is likely very minimal; just a few ports and an odd project or two (likely including 1-2 Switch). All the same, there is usually Nintendo news around this time, so people expect Nintendo news regardless of leaks. I think most aren't recognizing that we already had our Nintendo news for the second half of the year, whether out of ignorance or stubbornness.

Honestly I don't expect it as part of the Direct, but who knows. Maybe.

An Mini direct makes sense contractual reason if third party wanted to reveal their games on a Nintendo platform during June I could see all the third party content that would of been at E3 be put in here and major first party content into September direct.

Starting with "respectfully" and then pivoting to call people who don't share your perspective stubborn or ignorant is uhhh a little off, I think.

Fair. I just think it would be odd to use the Direct for the cast list and not any further promotion for the movie.

As others have said, I am astounded by what an incredible ride this month has been. My hope and expectations have seriously been all over the place, and even if the conclusion is ultimately a bit dull, the journey will have made it all worth it.

Nate said him and Andy compliment each other.

Post in thread 'VGC: “[Alanah] Pearce’s comments match with what VGC has been told, that Nintendo is planning a Direct later this month.”'

Does he think it will also be a Partner or its that he agrees it will be a Direct? As for Kit and Krysta I dont trust them much

I want a Pineapple Pizza Direct. 🍍🍕
Okay I draw the line at this take

Genuinely, to me the real Direct was the hype we made along the way.

Here's is most likely Mini Direct will look like if that's the plan:
Alan Wake Remaster
Dragon Quest Treasures
Everybody’s 1-2 Switch
Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series Demo
Live A Live Demo
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC Wave 2
Metroid Prime Remake
Nintendo Switch Sports Update
Persona 3P, 4G and 5R coming to Switch
Splatoon 3 Beta
Tactics Ogre: Reborn
Third Party Reel

I think no one knows what kind of direct this is going to be. I remember the partner direct was going to be a regular (Gamexplain even did a discussion video about it). The first direct in the pandemic however was probably going to be a mini or partner since it was hard for Nintendo Europe, America and Japan to create a direct together. That turned out to be the March 2021 direct.

It could easily be there. It's just my thought (not information) that it may not be there.

The difference between a Mini and a General is minimal. Partner, sure; as it has a bigger focus on third-party games, primarily.

The intent is: enjoy what is offered. People are down on a Direct that has yet to even be announced. If you had no idea about the show and it dropped next week as a Partner... would people be down on it? Or are they down on it because it doesn't fit what they hoped June would bring?

Sony had a SoP without any Sony games and the show was excellent.
Well. To be fair. You were down on the every first Partner direct lol. Without seeing it first too.

I think many people will be, only 1 of the 4 partner directs was well well received and it was the one we’re they announced as a livestream as oppose to a direct video upload. Monster Hunter and Ori were the reveals. But still small in scale.

Many folks here are Just really into the 1st party stuff. A partner direct could have 1st party stuff, but spin offs or not mainly done by Nintendo devs. Purely base off previous PD.

So yeah, I say it’s less the hype of June and more that it’ll likely not have the titles they actually would like to see. And SOP had games that’ll never get on switch as well, so it’s just seems strange for the comparison. Especially since a SOP is still not the same tool as a Nintendo direct.

Granted. I’m pretty good with the games out already. Got plenty to play. It’s just fun to talk new toys and we are in a rather barren land of stuff to talk about, rather what anyone really wants to talk about right now. Three Hopes ain’t lighting Fami up for sure, Mario Strikers neither. Xenoblade is going well and Zelda needs something to help it lol.

I bet We all really just want more to talk about. A Partner will do that, maybe not for the best reasons, but it’s really we just want those games we are really interested in.

I welcome anything. But I get why some prefer a General

Unrelated to the event next week and rather related to the topic a few pages back about why Nintendo is holding off games/announcements, I have a theory which directly relates to Nintendo's release schedule strategy in general which sprung to mind when Emily in the not-so-distant past remarked that (paraphrasing here) "maybe Nintendo tries to publish two games every month in 2022."

I was quite surprised by her saying that as Nintendo since consolidating for the Switch has always came off to me as trying very hard to spread out their first-party published games (whereas in the past their first-party games overlapped because they saw their previously seperated console and handheld console strategy as two completely different markets). Spreading them out in such a way that they do not overlap in one month other when absolutely necessary - in which case one title is clearly in the casual-oriented and the other clearly core-oriented spectrum (or its just some remasters/ports).

Why are they sitting on games and even announcements like the new Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime Remake and Everybody Switch? Because the release schedule this year is full enough from their point of view and next year other months/periods devoid of first-party releases need to be filled. as a result, a few of the games can be announced in the fall Direct. It's as simple as that.

It all boils down to this: people look back on the days where A Link Between Worlds and 3D World released in the same month (nevermind same day) and envision that future for the Switch, but Nintendo has been completely distancing themselves from such a strategy since their handheld and console market consolidated into one single market and platform. Instead they give each and every single first-party release the most potential breathing room and therefore selling power while simultaneously (trying) to keep third-party partners and developers happy that don't want to get overshadowed.

Other signs that may point to this strategy are unexpected moves like Nintendo seemingly not publishing/co-developing Good-Feel's next major release after doing so since their inception while Good-Feel is seemingly developing their new game as a Switch exclusive still. In this scenario Nintendo saw their Switch publishing schedule for the next few years after Crafted World finished development as full in their view and just didn't sign off their next pitch.

That's what makes most sense to me when looking at everything generally. Nintendo is probably also (close to) sitting on EPD Tokyo's game because I cannot imagine them taking longer than 5 years for a new release even accounting for COVID for example. Tokyo has been the most consistent studio at Nintendo since they were created.

Good-Feel intentionally persued self-publishing efforts with Monkey Barrels and their upcoming Goemon inspired game, but also said they are still doing contract work.

@sanstea I understand everything else you wrote and I see where you're coming from, but I'm not sure if I follow the Good-Feel part. I thought all we know about GF is:

-they're working on a side project inspired by Goemon that will be their next studio-only game after Monkey Barrels, similar to HAL with Part-time UFO

-the main thing they're working on is likely their next contracted game with Nintendo using a first party IP

Has there been some evidence indicating otherwise? Genuinely asking, I don't follow that side of development super closely.

Let's say this Mini/Partner has at least one remaster as its only first party title (Zelda or Metroid). Then, after Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade 3 are already out, we should expect a full general Direct. Do you think that Direct will have BotW 2, MP4, Mario Odyssey 2 or any surprise?

Their next game is slated as a Switch exclusive the last we've heard so in that context I'm weary of believing that statement truthfully. As far as I can recall, they also have a 2D shooter in development which is also not related to Nintendo.

They seem to be working on two games already, as mentioned above, which are not attached to Nintendo. We'll see next year at the latest if they have a new game published by Nintendo because that would be over 4 years after Crafted World.

If there's a September Direct, I can't see them not showing BOTW2, especially if it's an early Spring release. I'd say Odyssey 2 reveal in any Direct would be a surprise. MP4 is a question mark for any Direct in my opinion.

I think that many people still would be disappointed and down on it, even if there had been no leaks or teases or rumors or anything, simply because it's June. E3 may not be a thing this year, but people still expected Nintendo to do a June Direct. And we've watched basically every single other company do a show this month, but Nintendo has been quiet for new announcements. If we get right down to the last week of the month and then Nintendo drops a Partner Showcase, after waiting all month for them to announce a Direct, then yeah people are going to be upset. Is that their own fault for having lofty expectations based on nothing but what month it is? Maybe, but I can definitely understand it. The shadow of E3 looms large, and people are hungry for some new news.

I'm kind of fine with whatever we get next week, since it'll still be something, and the September Direct isn't all that far off really. But if it's a Partner Showcase then I'm not looking forward to the inevetible internet shitstorm and negativity.

In theory, isn't it possible that next week's direct is dedicated solely to Mario & Rabbids 2? If Xenoblade got one, then nothing would prevent M&R2 to get one.

It would match comments from earlier this month about Nintendo doing their presentations piecemeal, explains some of the confusion (is that considered a direct or not), and would explain why Bayonetta would not be there.

That, or it's the most godlike direct of all time for my tastes by being a SRPG focused direct. Release dates for all the 2022 srpgs with no release dates like M&R2, Diofield Chronicles, Front Mission and Metal Slug Tactics. With Tactics Ogre and Fire Emblem as the new reveals. The dream!

... a M&R2 focused direct sounds a lot more likely though.

I don’t understand why people should be happy and just take whatever Nintendo gives them. I don’t like telling people they should feel appreciated or happy with even a Partners Direct. If people are sad, disappointed or not happy I can understand.

There hasn’t been substantial info from Nintendo since February. E3 isn’t here, but people would think they’d get more than a Partners direct at least. I’ll be fine. This stuff doesn’t bother me, but I can understand if others are disappointed.

A lot of Nintendo fans look forward to Nintendo games. Is that wrong? No
