I don't get it. Partner Showcases and other Minis happened in 2020, and ONLY in 2020, because Nintendo had issues with WFH because of the pandemic which not only disturbed their ability to make games, but also record Directs. Once they started doing General Directs after something like a year, they stopped doing Partner Showcases and Minis. The only reason they would do one now is... well I can't think of a reason. Even if they didn't have that much first party stuff to talk about, they still got plenty of already announced games without release dates. And they always have a few surprises up their sleeve. They'll say: "This Direct will focus mainly on games coming in the second half of 2022 and beyond." but they'll still announce something that will only release in like 2 years.
It's not going to be a Partner Showcase. Minis in general have been a thing for years though. This is January 2018 all over again.

Lol this is starting to feel like Mbappe not coming to Real Madrid.

They can easily get by with 2 general directs a year. They already have games dated through early September. They can wait until early August to detail rest of the year + early next year. It sucks for us, but it makes sense for Nintendo. This will give partners their own focused direct so they’re not overshadowed by Nintendo software. Nintendo wait 30-45 days and then puts out a direct focused on their software.
Nintendo content doesn't overshadow 3rd party content, it elevates 3rd party content. News for Nintendo software is the very reason people turn into Directs in the first place, it's what gets eyes on the 3rd party content also shown in the presentations. If you cut 1st party content you simply get a less appealing and less effective presentation for everyone involved.

It was the last Mini for over 2 years before they started happening again, because of the pandemic. It's POSSIBLE it could be a Mini, but seeing a non-Pandemic one after 2 years of them not happening would be strange.

Yeah I was just rewatching the March 2020 one, that was definitely a pandemic direct. I dont see another Mini(though possible), I think its either a General, or a different Direct we havent seen lol

apparently it's not a general direct anymore. seems like a mini or partner
Oh are we like, sure now it's a Mini/Partner? Nate's comments make it seem vague/ambiguous what he actually means, could go either way no?

Imagine being excited for 4 months to go to a concert to see your favorite band only to see that band play all of 3 songs and leaves after 15 minutes

More like you go to an annual concert your band holds, but this year the band didn't announce any concert. You still show up anyways for some reason and get disappointed when the band doesn't play.

Has anybody actually definitively, authoritively said that?
No because it's impossible to know for sure without having sources at Nintendo who also work on the Directs. Which no one has.
All the information comes from third parties who aren't told what type of length a presentation is.

I’m rooting for “none of the above”

Fuck a partner or mini at this stage. They know internally that such a thing won’t go over as well for fans during the ‘E3-season’. Why would they plan it anyway?

i can't blame people for being disappointed. when insiders keep talking about a full direct for months, hyping it up and reassuring them multiple times, it's a bit of a bummer when it ends up not being that.
I mean, you’re not wrong, but also: we are less than 3 months away from the September Direct, so it’s not like it’s gonna be that long of a wait.

has someone ever tracked down who the narrator of the direct is?

I feel like it would be better for people to take a step back, stop convincing themselves a particular disappointing reality is definitely going to happen, and then stop getting angry about a thing that we don't know is happening.

And yes I get why people get emotional. I'm having a shit time in life and I seriously need something, somewhere, to go right; but investing emotion right now in anger and disappointment about a thing that hasn't yet come to pass is a waste. It's a waste of your time and emotional and mental wellbeing. It's also poisoning the well here and this thread is going to be a really unpleasant place to be.

Nintendo doesn't owe us anything, but NateDrake would have explaining to do. Luckily I do think there would be one.
Nate doesn't have any explaining to do. He's said that there will be A Direct next week, and that we should expect an update on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. That's the only stuff we know for sure.

I can't imagine Nintendo doing a Direct-Mini at this time of year, it's like telling the fans "hey it's just a Direct-Mini, nothing too important will be shown here". It's gotta be either a full length direct or a game/series specific direct.

I‘m sure you’ll get your money back. How much did you pay for this concert again?
This just happened with The Chicks (new name for Dixie Chicks if people didn’t know). Did some concert in Indiana and left like 30 minutes in.

Is a General and nobody can tell me otherwise....

How sad is it. That my thought reading this was a depressing voice in my head saying “I live in bad side of America, I might not make it to next week”

what if it's just a Mario direct Mini to talk about Strikers Updates/Mario KArt DLC/ Mario+ Rabbids 2 And The Mario Movie Trailer?

At this point, with all the conflicting and somewhat flimsy information floating around, I really see no point in speculating about what type of Direct it is anymore. The fun part is going to be to speculate what happens afterward. If Grubb was actually right after all and that they're splitting up their June Direct into several presentations...

People still with the fear of the direct being a partner/mini one.
Fear is to reach Tuesday with no announcement.

Optimal outcome. The longer we go with little news the closer we get to lots of news at the same time.

  • Nate says a Direct is coming
  • Grubb says Nintendo is doing a bunch of different showcases this year
  • Pierce says 29th, Nates says 28/29th
  • Xeno 3 direct happens
  • Tom Henderson says something is happening, but not a direct
  • Nate confirms we are getting details about M&R2 next week. But most likely not Bayo 3
  • Piers is flying out a work from home member to discuss a Direct next week

Assuming they are all correct, I think we are getting a Mario something that has the Movie trailer, M&R2, and maybe a first party Mario game which would slide into the holiday slot.

New Minions movie comes out July 1st, which would be the perfect slot to place the first Mario movie trailer. Hence the Mario something on June 29th.

If it’s a partner or mini, I expect the following:
  • Mario + Rabbids
  • Tactics Ogre
  • FF Pixel
  • Persona 3/4 (if there’s any truth to this rumor, it’ll be here, if it’s not here, it’s time to lay this one to rest)
  • Batman Arkham
  • Alan Wake
  • No Man’s Sky
  • Skyrim Anniversary
  • One of either a new Falcom or a new Gust game
  • Something to do with Nier
  • Something to do with Yakuza (this is wishful thinking on my end lol, I don’t actually expect it to happen)
  • Metroid Prime (only if it’s a Mini, not Partner)
  • WWHD/TPHD (only if it’s a Mini, not Partner)

Imagine being excited for 4 months to go to a concert to see your favorite band only to see that band play all of 3 songs and leaves after 15 minutes
I thought that the games were the concert, not the announcement of the songs.
