They can easily get by with 2 general directs a year. They already have games dated through early September. They can wait until early August to detail rest of the year + early next year. It sucks for us, but it makes sense for Nintendo. This will give partners their own focused direct so they’re not overshadowed by Nintendo software. Nintendo wait 30-45 days and then puts out a direct focused on their software.

Guys we are getting a Mario 37th anniversary Direct with

  • mario + rabbids 2 info, release date, etc
  • mario kart 8 dx dlc tracks wave 2
  • mario movie teaser
  • mario strikers update
  • j/k, but really, what makes me go foward a mini rather than a partner is they still need to date mk8dx tracks wave 2. By insider comments, its likely next week presentation is more focused on third party titles with no mega bomb from nintendo like new fire emblem announcement or zelda botw 2 trailer.

It just makes no sense when you consider the Partner Directs are their lowest viewed directs.
It's just self sabotage then
I agree, especially considering June is seen as the month for big game announcements.

But Nintendo is known to sometimes make head-scratching decisions.

What the hell happened

This isn’t 2020, we should be past this shit. Nintendo must have stuff to show, so like, why

E3 being gone disrupted their plans THAT much? How the fuck does that work?
Microsoft literally has nothing for the rest of this year 2022, and Sony has like 3 games, with the only major title not even having a confirmed 2022 date yet, could get pushed to 2023. I think Nintendo is doing really fine all considering.

At least this thread is exciting. Next week will be a fun ride regardless of what happens. Best case we get our "E3" presentation. Maybe its a 1-2 Switch direct. Who knows.

@Raccoon inspired me. Random posts will now be jazz songs that relate to the Direct speculation thread. The first one is the important question for the Nintendo Direct:

Use this to expand your musical pallet too

I'm not interested in M+R2. Grew tired of the first game pretty quickly and i can't see why would it be different with the sequel.
The sequel seems pretty different compared to the first game. The actual tactical gameplay is no longer grid-based like it was in the first game and the moment to moment gameplay looks to be way expanded and not as linear as the first game too.

If Mario + Rabbids is the big Mario game for this year, I have a hard time believing that Nintendo wouldn’t show it off in a general direct.

I know you are joking, but I could somehow see this happening.

How in the world is Mario + Rabbids primed for next week but Bayonetta 3 isn't?

Both would qualify for both first party and 3rd party games. In fact the one that's more 1st party because of the Mario IP is going to show up but Bayonetta 3 a 3rd party IP made by a 3rd party company isn't even though it was dated for this year almost a year ago? It can't be a partner showcase then.

It has to be a mini then. That sucks man. Really sucks

How does having no E3 throw that much of a wrench into their plans? They literally would have just done the same thing anyway and posted a video online. It ain't that different.

Are they really going to wait until September to announce Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime, Zelda BotW2, Bayonetta 3, and other big games? What? Two of those games are done already

Even if they had nothing to show anymore this year is already quite full.

Don't forget there was some good stuff in the Partner Directs including:

  • Cadence of Hyrule DLC announcement
  • Shin Megami Tensei 3: HD remaster announcement
  • New SMTV trailer
  • Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory announcement
  • Monster Hunter Rise announcement
  • Monster Hunter Stories 2 announcement
  • Hades shadow drop
  • Ori and the Will of the wisps for Switch revealed and shadow dropped
  • New Bravely Default 2 trailer and release date
  • New No More Heroes 3 trailer
  • New Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity trailer and Demo shadow drop

But it was all spread out over 4 different directs, with the Monster Hunter one being a clear highlight. Also, the directs were all called Minis - they ranged from just about 8 minutes to almost 19 minutes.

Directs are fun but Nintendo doesn't owe us anything.

Whatever happens next week, we'll be getting updates in one form or another.
Of course, who is even saying they owe us anything lol. This is a forum dedicated to Nintendo news, so people are obviously wanting to see some 1st party stuff (especially around E3 times). And people are rightfully weirded out by Nintendo (maybe) not having a general direct in June.

The always accurate gif.

We are all a mix of the two.
Nate I’m curious why you say the branding doesn’t matter

Have you heard about games that could be there and think we’d be excited regardless of what the branding ends up being?

It’s just confusing, because historically the branding has, in fact, mattered in terms of content shown

Having to edit the video doesn't mean a Direct will automatically turn into a Mini lol

Could just be that he heard that a game that was going to premiere pulled out, and will be announced later, so it makes no sense to have it in his prediction video.

I mean it isn't really that weird when the last time we didn't have an E3, Nintendo didn't have a general direct. They did tweets and partner directs. Yes, COVID obviously was a huge factor but they could have thrown all that info in one direct.

If next week hits and it's a smaller direct, it's clear a summer general direct we typically get might just be an E3 obligation. I mean just look at what Sony has been doing ever since they left E3.

I don't get it. Partner Showcases and other Minis happened in 2020, and ONLY in 2020, because Nintendo had issues with WFH because of the pandemic which not only disturbed their ability to make games, but also record Directs. Once they started doing General Directs after something like a year, they stopped doing Partner Showcases and Minis. The only reason they would do one now is... well I can't think of a reason. Even if they didn't have that much first party stuff to talk about, they still got plenty of already announced games without release dates. And they always have a few surprises up their sleeve. They'll say: "This Direct will focus mainly on games coming in the second half of 2022 and beyond." but they'll still announce something that will only release in like 2 years.

I love the doomposting in this topic. This Direct thread is the main reason I joined Fami. I love waking up every morning reading so many pages of it and refreshing during the day. June 29th is gonna be so bittersweet.

Anyways, I will make one reasonable post and after that I will fan the flames and the chaos like my brethren here.

Nate has incomplete information. Imagine you were in his shoes. You don't know the status of every project in the Nintendo pipeline and you don't know everything that is ready to be presented. Not much has leaked about the June Direct contents which I think is a good thing. It just makes more sense to say "a" Direct is coming instead of specifying. If you're wrong you get so much hate on Twitter and other places.

Secondly, a Partner's Direct seems the most unlikely. There has to be some first party games scheduled for release in the second half of the year and for early 2023. September Direct wouldn't work to showcase those coming in August - October. It would be too late.

Thus, Mini and General are most likely. But what is exactly wrong with a Mini? Isn't the difference just duration? Trim all the fluff. Zelda, Metroid, Bayonetta, Fire Emblem, Pikmin 4, 3D DK, new Mario project, 3rd party stuff like Persona, etc. all could theoretically be shown and teased in a Mini. Maybe not all of them due to time but some surely.

Ok no more reason.

Chaos will now reign :devilish:

Lmao at people sad at it maybe being a mini
i can't blame people for being disappointed. when insiders keep talking about a full direct for months, hyping it up and reassuring them multiple times, it's a bit of a bummer when it ends up not being that.
