PlayStation Sony PlayStation Discussion |ST| The Last God of Clank 7

For those unaware, Bloodborne is the greatest non-Nintendo game ever made.

Favourite Sony title of all time for me, yeah

Recently finished the Outer Wilds DLC, Echoes of the Eye. I thought it was fantastic and those waiting for Switch are in for a treat. The DLC has its issues, but overall it's a great addition to a nearly perfect game.

I need to get this, I absolutely loved Outer Wilds.

excited to play kena: bridge of spirits. basically bought it on a whim. resident evil village is my next ps5 game though.
I'm playing it right now as well. The game looks really nice but that's pretty much it. The combat is okayish but nothing special so far, maybe it'll get better when I unlock more stuff.

Is the DLC integrated into the main game or is it a separate thing? Debating whether I should play through the base game before purchasing the new content or just buy it now.

It's integrated into the world of the main game, but it is it's own specific area. The vast majority of the new stuff is contained in the new area.

It's an extremely well-presented throwback to PS2 style games. Some people will love that, some people will wonder why it gets so much praise.

I’ve been playing Dragon Quest XI (the non-S version). I’m really enjoying it.

I was in a gaming lull and decided to start it up a few days ago. The best word to describe it for me is cozy. It’s the perfect game for me to get out of the gaming lull I was in. The pacing is great, it’s charming and light hearted as well.

Whenever I play a DG game, I just can't get past on boring the combat seems (on first impressions at least).

This seems like the best place to ask this question - I’m looking into buying a PS4, mainly for Kingdom Hearts. I’d also play FFXV and VII Remake. Would the base PS4 be sufficient or would I need to find a Pro? I don’t have a 4K TV, but truth be told I haven’t followed PlayStation in a long time so I don’t know if the PS4 Pro is just for 4K or if there’s a performance boost for regular old 1080p gameplay. Are there games that run worse on a base PS4?
A base PS4 is absolutely fine for those games.
I don’t think there’s really anything that seems built for the Pro and runs like dogshit on the base model actually. Pro runs better but base is absolutely fine if it’s all you have.

Yeah, combat's one of the weaker parts for me as well with Dragon Quest. I'm not a big fan of the series to begin with, dropped both VII and VIII on 3DS after a couple of hours. I've played through XI S once so far, and while I didn't enjoy my first time with it too much (would've given it a 6/10, tbh), I'm now going through the game again (albeit on Switch OLED, not PS or PC).
I still would not play it for the combat alone, but the world does draw me in to a certain extent and makes me want to push on with the second playthrough. I also really enjoy the visual presentation. XI (S) might be the best starting point for people interested in the series.

I felt this way when I played a bit of VII and IX, but I don’t know what it is about XI it seems more interesting honestly.

How so? (honest question) I didn't play more than a couple of hours and never played the earlier games, being a Final Fantasy, and more lately, Trails, kind of guy. Plus ARPGs.

DQXI is the only mainline DQ I've put time into and I found the combat to be pretty vanilla but ultimately functional. It did the job for me but I can see why it might feel dull compared to more innovative or action-based JRPGs.

It might just be that I’m more in the mood for this kind of game, but I find the skill tree and pep powers have been more interesting than what I remember of Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest IX. I haven’t played many Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest games so maybe it’s still fairly “new” to me in that sense.

Dragon Quest need faster battles, which was more common in the series in the NES/SNES days. Also it need be difficult to really shine, that is why I like the stronger enemies option of Dragon Quest XI, the difficulty remind me more to older DQ games. I like it's a option tho and not the main difficulty.

By the way, someone here has playedthe infamous games? First Light is on sale right now, and I was wondering if it's a good entry to someone hasn't played a infamous game at all.

Wrong forum, who dis?

Jokes aside, I finished TLOU2 recently. Found it way better in every way than 1, apart from story.
Also the game is way too long, and that has a noticeable impact on the writing, as it gets worse/more nonsensical over time. I get the intention, but they really messed that up on that side. Absolutely fantastic gameplay though, and of course massive budget that helped on the animation side.

Even in late generation demanding games like Ghost of Tsushima or TLOU2 the Base PS4 is absolutely fine. If you really, desperately need 4K you shouldn't even get a Pro at this point, just wait for PS5 to drop in price.

Sounds like a base PS4 is the way to go! That’s good, cause they’re obviously cheaper. Pros seem to be going for more than $300 used which is more than I expected. And that’s too much money to spend just to be able to play the four or five games I’m interested in.

I like Dragon Quest as a chill relaxing game so I liked the base difficulty tbh.

Infamous is cool, basic open world but fun superhero abilities.
First Light is like a 10 hour prequel game for Second Son. I’m not sure it’ll entirely make sense as a first entry, it might assume you have knowledge beforehand. I haven’t played it since it came out so can’t exactly remember.

It's alright. I wasn't a big fan of the gameplay (it's the only Infamous game I've played.)

Played about a half hour of "Unsighted" last night; game has a great sense of style, although the gameplay feels very familiar.

Yeah, I like how ER looks. The sheer graphical quality was never going to match other recent releases anyway, given it's a) cross-gen and b) From. The visual style is as strong as usual, though, and it's looking very atmospheric as well. That's most important to me.

Yeah it's a Day One for me as well, I bounced hard off Sekiro (extremely hard game) so more Souls like is good for me.

Start of next year is going to be crazy - Elden Ring, Horizon, GT7 all in a couple of months of each other. Plus Sifu and perhaps Pokemon, depending on reviews.

I was able to finally get hold of a PS5 last week, so looking forward to working my way through the backlog of games I missed this past year. Currently doubling up on Kena (decent and beautiful but not massively engaging gameplay wise) and Spider-man: Miles Morales (really fun, some nice updates to the first Spidey Insomniac game), and will be leaping onto Deathloop and Returnal afterwards. Looking forward to catching up on what I've missed so far. I also like the new controller and UI. Happy with my purchase so far

Thanks, I will wait for a sale of Second Son then, at least it goes to sale frequently too. I'm happy because this allow me get Castlevania Requiem Collection, I want replay Symphony and Rondo of Blood 😊

The Infamous games are super fun. Not exactly the greatest games ever but if you want a good superhero game they’re definitely worth playing. It’s a shame there’s no way to play the first and second games on PS4 outside of streaming.

I've been re-playing Resident Evil 2 (Remake) for Halloween. Two years later, I'm still blown away by it.

Easily one of the best games in the franchise.

I’m kind of on the fence about buying Sackboy after the trial since I found it to be kind of ‘slow’, especially compared to Super Mario 3D World. That said, the levels did have interesting puzzles and designs so I’m curious to see if it gets better later on.

I tried out the Death Stranding trial too and I’m 100% down for it too.

I’m going to grab both sometime soon in the future when I don’t have much else to play.

One of those IP's where I hope another company does a 4k Remake/Remaster where they make the graphics utilizing the whole power of the PS5. Maybe tweak the gameplay and make some QoL changes.

Sony has a lot of IP's that would benefit from stuff like this. I'd kill for all the original Ratchet Games from PS2 era to get the PS4 treatment in terms of graphics (not so much a retelling to tie in some movie)

I’ve been playing the entire series for the first time and yeah, RE2 Remake is hands down the best one I’ve played so far. Everything about it is just masterful.

Beaten so far:
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil (remake)
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 2 (remake)

Currently playing:
Resident Evil 3 (remake)

I wondered if the complaints about 3R would feel overblown to me playing it for the first time with no knowledge of the original, but nah, it’s real apparent. The game feels like a DLC for 2, exact same mechanics, UI etc, and even a couple of areas reused. The whole thing just feels like I’ve seen it before despite being a new game for me.

Think I’ll play Code Veronica next before I get to 7 and 8 seeing it’s basically a mainline game. Unfortunately gonna have to dig out the PS3 to download the HD version as PS4 only has the emulated PS2 version available (at 50hz to boot for EU/AU!)

0, Rev and Rev 2 I might play later if I want more.

Yeah, Insomniac & Killzone are the obvious ones for PS5 collections. Issue is whether or not they would sell enough at full-price and if there would be follow-up games?

I think Sony will only bother if they thought bringing back these games would result in the IP having some long-term renewed success; otherwise why put resources into it? Or alternatively, if they thought they needed to fill a gap in terms of their catalogue (like needing an RGP or first person-shooter).

I think we can see this in stuff like KOTOR (need a RPG) or, if the rumours are true, Twisted Metal/Sly Cooper/TLOU Remake (two of these will be coming to TV/film, Sly Cooper makes sense in terms of a platformer, particularly if the Sackboy went well). This is why I'm 100% sure they are trying to get someone to do something on Uncharted, but maybe they couldn't find any takers in time.

Even something like Bloodborne, a supposedly 'dormant' IP, has HUGE hype behind it in the gaming community in 2021; not sure you can say the same for the likes of Infamous, Killzone, Resistance etc.

I might get a PS5 near the end of the year, really hope to see some sales for the « day one » games because they cost 80 € here (that’s around 96 US$) and it is beyond what I agree to pay -Game Pass is a blessing-.

Can’t wait to play Ratchet & Clank and Demons Souls (one of my first PS3 game).

I got Ratchet and Clank with my PS5 and, having not played one before, it was honestly really good. At some point I should check out the rest of the series.

You know, the price for (first party) PS5 games might end up being the biggest hurdle for me when it comes to potentially picking a PS5 up somewhere down the line. It's just -- I was able to buy Tales of Arise Deluxe (or whatever it's called--, the most expensive one) for close to 60€ before launch on PC. The same edition was/is 89.99 or even 99.99€ on the PSN. That's simply too expensive in my eyes.

Even the 100€ savings by buying the Digital quickly fade when games are that pricey.

I would like a black PS5 to match my living room's furniture, I really don't like white parts. Does anyone know if there are 3rd party black skins available for the white pieces? I just checked DBrand's website and their PS5 products are very poor.

Playing through Demon Slayer and its alright so far. Next game I pick it will probably be Monark in early 2022.

I bought Death Stranding for PS4 at 30 dollars. I don't plan to upgrade it to the DC version until I clean a bit of my backlog, but I think that is a good price.

I'm currently stuck in Trails jail, working my way through Cold Steel atm.

I'm having a great time, but thinking that i've already invested 250+ hours in this franchise and yet i'm not even halfway through is kind of demoralizing lmao

Probably much lower amount of hours, but this is how I feel about Yakuza post Kiwami 2 lol
