Alright so yesterday when vibes were low I had an idea to lift things up in in here...

Quote reply to this message with your favorite memory of a Direct Announcement. Be specific: where were you when you were watching, how many tears did you shed, what were your Direct snacks?

I’ll randomly pick one of the (valid) replies tomorrow (Saturday) morning and gift them an eshop game of their choosing, $20 max! (or I suppose credit if a code isn't possible) Include the game you’d be hoping to grab with it in your reply to give the devs some love :)
Great prompt! I think for me it has to be the February 2019 Direct... That one had a lot of mind blowing things for me. I had already been delighted because of Rune Factory getting a revival I never expected, and then something I could only dream about up to that point happened... A beautiful animation of stormy waters. I dared not imagine that it could be a remake of my favorite game of all time. By the time I saw Link, I was in complete disbelief. I started to cry, and when the pan up the island up to the egg occurred, I was full on boo-hooing. I honestly can't imagine any announcement more perfect for me ever happening in the same way again-- Link's Awakening has always meant so much to me, and it got a treatment that I personally consider perfect. That's gotta be my favorite Direct showcase of all time, because it also debuted Astral Chain, which would go on to be another one of my favorite games for the console.

We’re getting a pseudo Super Mario Galaxy 3 setting.

I want to see what the travel system will be like in Sparks of Hope. Will it just be a map and we select planets. Or will we actually get to control the ship and fly around in space 🥹. I’ll guess and say it’s the former.

The things I would do for an actual Super Mario Galaxy 3…

Mini 2020 was the pandemic year so can't really go after it as an example, but it started with XenoblaDE release date and ended with Sword and Shield DLC.

Imagine if a Mini 2022 would be like something like beginning with Rabbids release date and ending with Booster Course Pack 2 shadowdrop.

Yikes.

Nintendo has way too many games coming out this year for a Mini unless everything floating and rumored got completely delayed far into next year. Not remotely concerned on this front.

Never posted with next week fully ruled out we are down to just six possible Direct days! Hype!

Nate has messed this up once before. Because someone may know a game or two and use those games to assume it’s a general direct, but they might be small enough for a Mini Direct.

@NateDrake are you really confident in what you know would constitue a general direct or were you told it’s a general direct?
If the Direct I have knowledge of is a Mini... then they should use a different term.

I still believe it will be a general direct.
Nintendo won’t do a mini in a month full of announcements like this
Mini means no previous announcement. No previous announcement rn means get less attention between the other conferences.

Btw, I don’t really care what they do in the end, I just want to see this new FE😭 please Nintendo

A mini direct would sure be a mess, but I'd find one randomly happening next week to be more believable than a general at the end of the month, instead of literally next week when everything else in the industry is happening and nintendo would be stupid to not show something next week. The direct micro in 2015 was pretty great as it showed off Pokemon Super MD, which ended up being my all time favorite game in history.

The hope for a Pokemon direct to reveal a PMD2 remake is still in me. If they're stupid enough to not have an Ninty E3 direct next week, then I'm guessing it's the 20/21st and around when Sony may do another event, otherwise I'm calling bull. I also feel they have to announce Pokemon Snap and the next Genesis wave before too terribly long as well for NSO.

TBH my hope outside of PMD/pokemon stuff that would just be in a presents is for Advance Wars to fucking show up and get dated. I'm so livid the GOAT I looked forward to got banished to the shadow realm and left me with a miserable Q1/Q2 until this month. Just please shadow drop it I'm begging you nobody gives a shit anymore about it being in poor taste, this stupid industry revealed another Gun Game McGee at Summer Games Fest sponsored by the freaking US Army. that's way worse and blatant propaganda so how the hell is Advance Wars still a concern for nintendo especially when they're likely to release it without a mention anyway

stupid. Just stupid and I'm still very pissed off and fearful AW will end up like Brain Age in Europe on 3DS... remember how long that took for it to get free? at the very least it's certain Nintendo probably won't want to associate with AW after this situation and what happened with the original game.

That’s reassuring 🥹

I really hope I won’t have to wait till September to see FE. If the term “mini” is not what you think they should use then maybe the possibilities for it to be shown are higher than the one in a regular mini direct

Anyway, let's all keep calm and stream Nate's Xbox predictions video tomorrow morning to get back into the June presentation spirit
The Xbox predictions episode is loaded and ready to go for morning. We had fun recording this episode and explore a lot of possibilities.

I feel like Nate has historically messed up Minis and Generals, so I'm not sure if he would know what kind of Direct an upcoming Direct would be. But maybe that was just the one time with the first Partner Showcase?
IIRC the thing is that basically no one has any idea what Nintendo is going to call the Direct before it happens, even if they know most of the content that'll be in it. General Direct, Mini, Partner Showcase, whatever. No one has really ever known that in advance, it's just inferred based on the known content and logic (someone can correct me if I'm wrong on that). Things like the name and the announcement time are pure unknowns.

The only exception being (I think?) when our French Buizel somehow managed to find out that the first Mini Partner Showcase was being announced at midnight on a Sunday earlier that day. That was a fun time.

But anyway, no, a Mini doesn't seem likely to me. There's just way too much stuff they need to cover, IMO.

Imagine if the Nintendo Direct was hosted by Chriss Pratt and Charlie Day and other members of the Mario movie lol

It's not going to be a Mini Direct. There's way too much to talk about and this time of year is when the company strategically lays out their general holiday plans for everyone including partners, retailers, etc.

Xenoblade 3
Live A Live
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak
Splatoon 3
Bayonetta 3
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

On top of all the rumored games that are supposed to come out really soon like Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime. That's not even including all the 3rd party game announcements too. They're not going to wait until September, 2 months before the holidays to showcase their holiday plans and talk about all this compared to every other year

I’d be into Charlie Day slurring through a script, mispronouncing literally every franchise and character name for the entire hour.

I think a mario movie trailer is actually pretty likely for the next direct. I'm surprised we haven't seen one yet, seems like they're saving it for something, and the september direct last year had the cast news

The movie was recently delayed and showing now trailer 10 months or so before release is a huge red flag.

excellent timing to me, I have a day off at work and i will enjoy it. thanks as always for your content and insight.

Since the movie got delayed, I’m no longer expecting anything Mario movie related at this Direct. Definitely will happen at the September / October Direct.

So since next week is ruled out... I had a thought.
June 21st-22nd seemed the most plausible days, since June 23rd-24th will be likely used for advertising FEW and that June 20th is a Monday (and I really doubt there will be a direct on a Monday).
The last week of June is also out imo, that's really too late and there is the shareholders meeting...

At the same time, if we look at Nate yt hint again... maybe:
tradition -> Tuesday at E3 time
later -> one week later

So... June 21st?

Makes sense to me, and maybe they'll announce the direct next week (unless they announce it a day before, because fuck patterns) so fingers crossed.
I'm rioting if they don't announce anything next week :cautious:.

I still think Nate’s hint requires context; He said it when he posted the poll - end of May. It would have ruled out two of the options, a fair enough hint. Probably nothing more than that.

I hope not. That'll be in the middle of my exam week. I'd still watch it though :[

Any chance of a quiet stealth release for Advance Wars? Or is it best to forget about that game?
