a mini direct for june, a pre-order drop that crashed their website for more than 10 hours and the release of a mario strikers game where you can only connect to 1 friend at a time online all in the span of 1 week would probably get me to drop out of the online nintendo scene for at least a good 3 months

I still believe it’s a general Direct, but to be fair there were Mini Directs before 2020. Like in January 2018 for instance.
Q1 2018 still had a proper Direct though. The age of minis are done, I think. Especially for this year. Way too much to go over, apparently.

I don't think Grubb has any idea what he's talking about, but based on the reactions, people are forgetting what Minis were actually like in the Switch era. They weren't very mini. There have only been two, one in January 2018 and one just as the pandemic was underway in late March 2020. The one in 2018 was especially packed with announcements. The only reason they called those Minis is because they were announced day-of and only had a narrator instead of any presenters on camera.

This. Grubb puts out a lot of content, talks on streams, etc. Folks like to pull his quotes out of context. When he makes a prediction, it’s more intentional.
The last time he said something about a direct he literally said "I don't know" and people ignored that and thought he was leaking something when in reality he was simply speculating like we do lmao.

I won’t mind a mini direct as long as Bayo 3 is dated and shown

For whatever reason I haven’t been feeling BotW2 will be in the June direct anyway for the past two weeks

He's super mindful to tell folks when he's not confirmed something, and he wouldn't be surprised if it's wrong etc. He's had the same Direct take for a couple weeks now. Sounds like he's just rationalizing how they might drop something next week, but we already have Nate, who is much more confident in what he's heard, saying that next week aint it.

That's not to say what he's heard about 'a bunch of smaller things' isn't true. We may find that Nintendo has more than one showcase lined up, patterns be damned. Only time (or Nate) will tell.

I think everyone should actually watch this clip before people freak out. Grubb is specifically asked about a Direct "leak" for Wednesday and he goes on to say that he hasn't heard anything about it and then guesses that it's a Mini Direct...or a Partner Direct...or a bunch of Twitter announcements. Basically he has only heard that it's a bunch of mini announcements and he doesn't know it what format any of this will come.
Lmao so like I just said where you guess what the direct will be based off games you’ve heard

I think it'll be a maxi direct.

With wings.

Mini Direct doesn't sound bad for where they're at honestly. Three Hopes reminder, Sunbreak reminder, Xenoblade trailer, potentially a small Pokemon trailer, Mario Kart DLC next wave, some smaller announcements (Tomodachi? Style Savvy?), a port or remaster, (Zelda HD ports? Prime HD?) end with one big game announcement (Mario? DK? Fire Emblem?)

That’s a general direct. A new Mario, DK, Fire Emblem game will not be in a Mini Direct

Mm I doubt they’ll pay dust to third parties beyond sunbreak

I’ve been over the difference between a Mini Direct and General Direct many times and argued with people in the past. Nintendo made it clear when you see the announcements. A brand new DK, Mario or Fire Emblem game will not be part of a Mini Direct. That is a general direct.

100% agreed. There is a certain threshold that, when passed, turns what would have been a Mini Direct into a general Direct. What has been described here would certainly be a general Direct.

Welp up until recently we had a pattern of directs right after European eShop sales. Anything is possible in a post-COVID world!

Mario + Rabbids continues to be forgotten about lol
Honestly, im personally not focused on mario+rabbids because despite how good the first game was, itll never be a day 1 purchase for me based on how quickly and often ubisoft games go on sale

Not enough of y’all are mentioning Bayonetta 3 - HELLO?!

That’s the one 2022 thing that’s announced but still not dated

Kamiya told me I should really play 1 and 2 to enjoy 3. I tried 2 and didn’t love it at the time. now there’s even less of a reason for me to be excited about 3 :(

Have all the games you heard about on the 15th been revealed at SGF btw?

I'm not totally convinced about that specific time and date anymore but yes, there are still games with embargos ending then that were not at SGF; TMNT wasn't either of them.
