2 things I would fall through my chair if it happens this sunday on microsoft conference:

1) New Banjo game (either remake or totally new game, if its a new game, please be an open world with fully interconnected levels and pure platform gameplay)
2) Guitar Hero 1+2 remake, with master recordings instead of cover but being as faithfull as possible on charts. This also available on Switch and PS systems.

Will my pleads be truth someday??

As for Microsoft x Switch; if they are now preparing a Gears of War collection, maybe one day...(with Halo :) ).

I think the Rock Band launch from a few years back signaled that the music/instrument genre isn't coming back.

We got recently the revival of Tony Hawk and in the future Skate, and well, skating isn't as popular as it was 20 years ago so well, who knows. Though this is more a dream than something I fully expect in the near future.

Im for a prediction podcast with EL-P and killer mike. =P

At least not in the scope it was back then, and with all that hardware. i do see its future in less specialised controllers and either as a GaaS because of the song licence cost, or in the sense Beat Saber came, where specific music for the game is made... or where more independent artists sell the rights for a reasonable amount. We wont see those games for the big hits or back catalogues for acts like beatles, led zepelin, guns n roses and stuff.

Yea but those games don't require special controllers as a barrier to entry. Antidotal, but I feel like people aren't interested in having extra clutter anymore. Personally I wouldn't mind having one guitar and a game that allows me to purchase more songs, but I don't see the market for it sadly

Alright so yesterday when vibes were low I had an idea to lift things up in in here...

Quote reply to this message with your favorite memory of a Direct Announcement. Be specific: where were you when you were watching, how many tears did you shed, what were your Direct snacks?

I’ll randomly pick one of the (valid) replies tomorrow (Saturday) morning and gift them an eshop game of their choosing, $20 max! (or I suppose credit if a code isn't possible) Include the game you’d be hoping to grab with it in your reply to give the devs some love :)
It would have to be the infamous January Direct in 2013... which in all honesty isn't the greatest Nintendo Direct of all time.... BUT The Wii U had launched some time before that in 2012.... it was sort of a rough launch with the whole Day one OS update... bad press and overall lack of excitement around the Wii U. I was working at Sony at the time and so to say I was pretty alone in my Nintendo fandom was un understatement. Things weren't looking all that interesting or great for the Wii U ... you could tell even before the launch that the writing was on the wall. (leaks and specs and tech talk was not positive)
So Iwata comes out ... talks about miiVerse for 5 minutes... talks about Virtual console eventually coming, (Like I said the launch was rough) some tid bits about bayonetta 2 and w101 were thrown around... some other stuff like yoshi and stuff were talked about... but then... at the end... Iwata hits us with a "Please take a Look"

the screen goes dark... the music fades in... Nintendo x Monolithsoft logos appear... the subtle music continues playing... footsteps are heard as the screen fades in with a massive beautiful open world scene, Protagonist with a sword and slick black clothes running along a beach. This is the best looking [Nintendo] game you've ever seen. More running, big dinosaur monsters... bullets and slashing... big WOOSH Dino tail... then the VOCALS KICK IN... "OOoooOOhhhOOOAHHHH"
More fights with dino beats thingies ... party members... slashing shooting... running... What's that? a robot thing?
He gets in... and starts FLYING... Jaw Drops... the landscape shrinks beneath but expands in front of you... you can go anywhere. Flying in the mech, fighting in the mech, Slashing off parts, shooting... driving... TRANSFORMING... then BAM big ugly Kroger brand Shulk face at the end....

What was that

"X"

Oh man that Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer was such a shot in the arm for Wii U owners at the time. In a time filled with so much doubt and insecurity about my recent purchase... It was a promise... a reassurance, that there was something to look forward to... even if half the stuff I saw in that trailer (as I sat at my Desk and watched it 100more times that day) I misinterpreted and we didn't really get to do later (like online co-op which I was POSITIVE would happen haha) THAT trailer... that Direct... will forever go down as the best in history simply because it gave us what we needed...

HOPE

My entry is the E3 2019 Direct. I'm sure I was not the only person to react like this.

2019 was a particularly rumor-heavy year for Switch and Nintendo games. Funnily enough, most of them wound up coming true. I sat down in my old living room with my old roommate and we got ready to watch one of the best Directs that ever happened. I had a bottle of Schofferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen Beer, a perfect summer drink to enjoy in the afternoon comfort of strong air conditioning and E3 hype.

The Smash reveal at the beginning turned out to be the Dragon Quest Hero, and I was convinced that was all we would see about Smash. They got the reveal out of the way early, and we still would have a bunch of great announcements to look forward to. Luigi's Mansion 3 got more footage with a holiday release date, Panzer Dragoon remake got announced, a proper No More Heroes 3 traIler, Animal Crossing New Horizons got its full reveal, Fire Emblem Three Houses got a great story trailer. Things were going very well, and then we hit the sizzle reel. I figured "okay, here's a last big reveal, could be literally anything."

All of a sudden I see the same Heroes v Villains intro that led into the K. Rool trailer start. And my mind starts racing. Not only is Smash Ultimate getting another trailer, but we're getting another villain as DLC? Love to see it. It finishes with DK and Diddy v K. Rool and my mind starts racing as to who it could be. I'm frantic at this point because I remember the rumors that I've been burnt by so many times. It's not the first time my hopes have gotten up for a certain character to join As a matter of fact, this was the E3 where, if nothing happened with this particular character here, I was ready to write the franchise off entirely as just a relic of the 90's.

The trailer begins to the same shot of DK's snoring mouth and my heartbeat is racing. I see Diddy hanging on the tire swing, DK snoozing away, and... huh. Weird. K. Rool is there too.

Then it happens.

The sound of a gemstone bouncing along the floor is stuck in my mind forever. It feels like someone let the year-old stale air out of the room since the grinch leak. Blink, and you'll miss the Jiggy boucning across the screen, but I sure didn't blink. Matter of fact, I yelped louder than I ever have at a video game reveal in YEARS. There was absolutely nothing that has ever gotten me this excited. The DK trio peers out of the newly formed hole in the wall at the silhouette blocking the sunlight, and at this point I feel like I am 8 years old all over again. The stars of my favorite game of all time have finally made it into what would soon become my second favorite game of all time.

They were, in fact, raring to go and just like that, a 20-year-old video game dream came true. Better than Banjo and Kazooie finally coming to Smash, they came to Smash CORRECT. Look at that design. It's perfect. A perfect evolution of the N64 style.

There are very few trailers that simultaneously are great trailers yet so meticulously designed to appeal to hardcore fans of something. But Banjo and Kazooie's Smash trailer feels like it was made for me and me alone.

I think I figured it out now. This is the second time since Nate is posting Elmo in 24 hours, so it clearly is a hint. I looked at up and Elmo became available in 1996. 2022-1996 = 26. So Direct is confirmed for June 26th, yeah you would say that it's on Sunday but I have clear explanation: Donkey Kong Land was released on June 26th for Game Boy. Remake to be announced at the Direct, because of the anniversary. Thank me later.

Elmo first received a name in Season 11 Sesame Street episode 1439 airing May 15th 1980

the gif(posted twice to indicate it's double meaning) also doubles as a visual representation of what this place would look like after the last couple days if a direct were to happen on the 15th

With this direct coming late I’m further on board with the new Fire Emblem coming in the September direct.

Big announcements for

September Direct- new Fire Emblem game, Pikmin 4, GB/GBC to NSO

February Direct 2023- New Star Fox, Style Savvy, new 3D Mario, Paper Mario TTYD remake

June 13, 2023- New F-Zero, New Wario Land, New 2D Zelda

What are the chances Square throws Nintendo a bone and announces the console ports of the Pixel remasters during the next direct?
Square is the one paying in that case, so it all depends on how much Square wants to promote console ports of the Píxel Remasters

I think I’m missing something

Why is the fact that a direct will come later than usual an indicator of Fire Emblem being in the September direct and not in this one?
Please, I just want to see it.

I'd love to see Guitar Hero or Rock Band come back, but there was a huge boom and bust with plastic instruments. Nobody wants to make them anymore. It's like the US video game market in 1984. We need Nintendo to resurrect it!

Tom Henderson said there’s more Sony news coming the end of this month. Can you imagine if we get a Nintendo Direct and a Sony State of Play the last week of the month? Would be great

Sounds like there’s more announcements.

There is also possible:

  • Returnal and Sackboy game PC ports announcements
  • Howarts Legacy release date, not a Sony game but they have marketing rights.
I think they will save bombs like Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal or other revivals for september SoP.
