I feel like a minority in forums like this in that I don’t really pay any attention to “hype cycles” of games. I watch the trailers in Nintendo Direct’s, State of Play’s etc but that’s it. Don’t pay any attention to the secondary trailers that get dropped on YouTube/Twitter, don’t look at preview articles, don’t follow the Twitter feed..

Like Xenoblade 3 is most likely going to be top 3 in my GotY list and I think I’ve seen the single announcement trailer and barely know anything about it. And that’s fine, I’ll learn about and see all that when I play it.

The abyss has truly taken hold of me now . And not in the cute funny way.

I think I'm gonna try to add smaller eyes to the ends of each of the tentacles too. So they can all fire laser beams together!

{lighting a cigarette} yep, it’s got you good

welcome to the pit my friend

I get hyped for the big presentations like Directs and do follow Nintendo on Twitter, but otherwise I tune out most other trailers and previews. I often appreciate going into most games with as little knowledge as possible once I've determined I want to play something. Keeps it fresh. That said, there's still general osmosis of knowledge being on here and Twitter in general.

Chipping away at Digimon cyberslueth while watching a FE 3 houses playthrough of one of Edelgard’s routes. May do a couple holes of Mario golf and some voxelgram to calm me before I call it a night. Also primed this guy so I can base him tomorrow and paint him Sunday

Got the last copy of Triangle Strategy in my local Gamestop today. Can't wait to not play it for at least 2-3 months until I clear out my current backlog lol, and that's before even considering what the Direct might show at the end of June

Ooh, I didn’t realize how many Shantae games there are. They’re all on sale! Any recs?

Spiritfarer is 67% off too! I have it on game pass and haven’t played yet, but it seems like a handheld experience and a game I’ll want to keep around in case it leaves GP any time soon. I’ll give the Switch demo a whirl, it’s on my must play list for pride anyhow.

I’m not saying someone should run the word “manhole” by the AI thing buuuuuuuuut……………

The original, risky revenge’s, and the pirate’s curse are super solid. Half genie hero is ok but suffers from losing the Metroidvania style world feel in exchange for levels. And I haven’t tried 7 sirens.

The original is somewhat rough, but it has the GBA enhanced mode and MVG programmed this version. So by buying that you indirectly support Nate.
Oh hell yea! I forgot about that. Consider it bought, a friend of @NateDrake is a.. respected person of mine

I haven’t played a video game in three days. It feels weird.
I've barely played anything since early April when I finished Kirby. Just a few multiplayer games here and there with friends once or twice a week. Feels really weird. And feels sorta bad. I know I love playing games but I just can't seem to figure out how to fit them into my daily rhythm at the moment.

I think the two best Shantae games are Pirate's Curse and Seven Sirens, with Seven Sirens being my favorite. But they're all pretty fun. Half-Genie Hero seems to get a lot of grief but even that game is pretty fun.

IMO Pirate's Curse is the best one, but Seven Sirens is also quite good. Half Genie Hero is still good but the structure change is a bit disappointing, so I'd put it behind those two. I haven't played the original.

Good to know, I love the first 3 so I’d been wondering on Sirens, maybe I’ll grab it.

The original has some rough edges for being a GBC game but is a really cool Metroidvania nonetheless

Well went from having to juggle a couple tasks taking up half my day to having a clean slate tomorrow. Which considering we’re on a heat advisory is great. So I’ve got 2 minis I want to base first thing, some games to play, some anime to watch and maybe I’ll model this random anime grunt called Vacuum as well.

Downside may have to help with some work Sunday. Which is the one day I go do something social at my flgs right now. Which could still happen but that stuff tends to trigger my tremors so it might be useless for me to go to paint when I can’t paint

In a unfortunate plot twist for almost everyone.

Mario Strikers Battle League has less content then both Launch Mario Golf and Mario Tennis Aces. Wonder if folks will either go lighter on Camelot or harsher on Nintendo’s direction for sport titles.

I bought the game and it’s pretty much at the level of Charged. With less Characters, which is the worst part since you get repeat teams, losing sidekicks and repeating main characters makes it annoying cup battles. Also cup battles are knockout rounds and so far seem to lack the season table format from the original. No text describing the tournament either like in charged. It’s pretty much online or GameCube levels of just play matches, which is what I did but a shame that it very light on the content. Stadiums are also very few, the Orignal even had a couple unlockable.

Overall. If you like just playing matches, game will have longevity, the mechanics are decent and provide high level play. It’s also much slower then the previous games which is why the Fields are smaller. The slowness is actually unfortunate for me as I enjoyed the more faster paced of the GameCube and Charged. Especially the GameCube where it was more simplistic but had tighter controls and feels better to play. The skill set is different, everyone has the same techniques so less of a chance of being absolutely broken like Charges. But the game feels rather sterile. Menus are ugly, the stadiums are few and not unique looking, (neither were the GameCube ones really), music is same style and lacks the variety of Charged and the lack of a “goooooool” announcement like the original just sucks. It’s doesn’t feel as exciting when you score as I feel you should, hopfully they patch in some generic crowd noise, I think that’ll help.

I had express a feeling that too many folks were way to excited for NLG handling this and expecting more. I played hundreds of hours of the first 2 strikers game and I knew what to expect. No, it’s really not a lot here So I can’t really offer a recommendation. It’s one of those, find a way to try it out and you’ll have to decide for yourself. Personally, strikers is my favorite sport games and I’ll probably be playing this every now and then. Even just against AI, the 2 other strikers games were still fun against them.

All in all, it’s Mario Strikers without Daisy. (Still weird)

Thanks all for your Shantae Recs!

I just watched a retrospective on the series while doing dishes for the night and… damn! What a neat little pocked of pseudo-Nintendo history that I’ve somehow never clicked in on.

does anyone here still play Pokemon unite? Is the economy better than it was at launch?

I want to get back into it but making enough money to unlock characters was such a slog

If I wasn’t so attached to my avatar this would be a strong contender for me to use as a new one
It definitely looks like a red monster

I ended up writing this in the order that I played them, because it was easier for my brain that way:
My first and favorite was Pirate's curse. But it's sliiightly weird to start with because it ditched some of the traditional aspects of the series like the transformation dances. But it's really, really good.

Risky's Revenge is slightly dated but still good, a better picture of the "roots" of the series than Pirate's Curse.

Half-Genie Hero was the one they crowdfunded, and it returned to the more traditional gameplay formula of having transformation dances after Pirate's Curse, but it went away from the search-action style and ended up being more of a straightforward action platformer. Not entirely, just more so than its predecessors. It's probably my least favorite but still a good game.

Seven Sirens was like everything finally coming together in a big way. Search-action is back, transformations are back, HD art, all the strong points from the preceding games are now here.

If you had to pick only one, I'd say Seven Sirens. It's the strongest of the bunch IMO, with Pirate's Curse a very close second. Then Risky's Revenge VS Half-Genie Hero depends on whether you prefer more of a linear game or more of an exploration game.

Oh dang, I wrote all this up before realizing everyone else already responded with a lot of the same points. Uh... Anyway 😅

It's been in the 90s for me for a while, and we're about to hit triple digits this week. It's not even officially summer for us yet. By the time we get to July? You better believe we're gonna get some heat advisories. They're par for the course these days.
and a politician just won the primary in a nearby district who insists global warming is "alarmist lies from the left" and that "the earth has been cooling and heating in cycles for thousands of years and this is totally natural" so hooraaayyy

actually that one’s @chocolate_supra
Wait what..?

Thank you!! Worth the write up because it validates what everyone else says and I know you have similar tastes in games to myself :)

This is where I grew up before moving at the age of 14. A desert with hot weather year round and even hotter summer. Winter it would cool sometimes tho.

My body has adjusted and the current hot weather is pretty manageable here, we are getting 95-100 right now where I currently live so it’s better then below lol. Especially since it gets much better in other months that isn’t summer.

Yeah could hit 100 degrees tomorrow And it’ll start spiking quick starting by 10
Interesting! We hit 100 every now and then, but I don't recall ever seeing a heat advisory or anything like that. Although it's entirely possible I've just missed it. Then again I don't recall ever seeing a 'cold advisory' or anything like that, either; only notifications when there are storms of some sort.

Either way, early June is WAY too soon to hit 100 degrees
