No voice acting, subpar visuals, and seemingly confirmation that everything I liked about PLA is gone? I’m disappointed.
Ah that's fair. With the way development cycles work I wasn't expecting the risks (successfully) taken in PLA to carry over so my expectations were tempered there.

I really hope the Sonic thing today is good, because the Pokémon trailer has got me down. The teaser yesterday doesn’t inspire confidence, but I can hope.

It’s a universal truth that if you played Link’s Awakening as a child you got stuck somewhere in the game because there was a stupidly cryptic hint that made no sense 😂
I remember getting stuck for months with the raccoon because the hint was something like “a raccoon‘s nose is sensitive to dust” and you get the magic powder from the witch, but I could barely speak/read english at the time so my 8 year old self didn’t make the connection between those words.

Great game tho.

I got stuck bad in the Eagle's Tower as a kid. I don't think I ever managed to beat it without the room-skip glitch.

Even playing Link's Awakening in 2019 was challenging at times. Less so the dungeons for me, more so some of the late-game overworld progression needed to find the final two dungeons. But the wind fish itself was a piece of cake to navigate.

I’m just so tired of Pokémon games introducing features and concepts that I really like, then removing them in the next game.
That's fair, though I think this is a very different circumstance. This isn't so much the "next mainline game" by the same team with features stripped, it's the second title in a year in a split-timeline of "mainline" games. So, I wouldn't fear that Arceus will be a one-and-done especially with how well received it was.

So I wasn't happy with my goofy first person world map I had previously made, everything looked too close and cramped and small, like you could see the boundaries of the world pretty easily:

I was using 400x400 floor tiles in a 64x64 grid, which I thought would be enough to give it a sense of like a real world, alas I was wrong. So I completely scrapped that and started a new map using 2000x2000 tiles in the same 64x64 grid and oh what a difference that made:

The scale feels way more realistic and actual world-like, right? And since it's the same amount of tiles (and you'll be moving tile by tile) it's not actually any bigger for the player to traverse.


God I cannot stop working on this game it's so goddamn fun and satisfying.

It's the greatest Zelda game of all time, so of course they liked it.

I remember being pretty Zelda-neutral until I played this game as a kid. I think I played it way after it came out, too, like in the mid-'90s. I had played the original, Zelda II, and LttP by that time and I don't think that I ever finished any of them. I got bored partway through each one.

Then I played this, and it changed my view on games in the series entirely. I still don't think a game in the series has lived up to this one for the mixture of mood, gameplay, art direction, etc. It even takes that primitive sound chip in the Game Boy and uses it to make a truly unsettling OST that matches the eerie nature of the game perfectly. Also, Sword Search is one of my favorite pieces in a game (both the OG and the remake versions, both of them matching the tones of the games they are in perfectly) period.

I played LA, OoT, and MM almost all together in a row across like two-and-a-half years, and it definitely cemented me as maybe not a Zelda fanboi, but as someone who finally understood why people are so into the series.
 
BotW influence out the wazoo in this new Sonic game. I'm kinda digging it ngl.

Yeah it does not look appealing at all, gameplay wise. It looks like open world Sonic for the sake of open world without actually understanding why open worlds are fun or engaging to begin with.

Going around from linear rail/spring to linear rail/spring does not sound fun.

Yeah, you can tell that the open world came first and then they tried to make the basic elements of Sonic level design (springs and rails) fit into the world. But the topography itself doesn't seem to account for Sonic's moveset at all (unlike Sonic Utopia for example). It's very weird.

I hope we get to see more of this closer to release. It's the main reason why I'm interested in it.
