Tried out the Spelunk 2 gametrial as it was a game I've been wanting to play for quite some time... but it only made me want to play Steamworld Dig 2 instead..

Which is a game I should replay soon, damn it's good.

Pokemon Let's Go! games were first revealed 4 years ago today. And that reveal trailer is so hype, the music. If anyone knows little bit of background it was fun to look back how the titles were first leaked on April 1st + screenshot from the game, and then all people were waiting for that Pokemon conference since there was some teasing from insiders on that day back in the old place. Fun times.

I still think Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is a legitimately good Star Wars movie. I say this as someone who didn't like Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It's not a great movie like Empire Strikes Back or A New Hope, but it's extremely entertaining.

Episode III is action-packed from beginning to end. It's never a boring movie. Out of all the prequels, it's the only one I enjoy re-watching.
I think it's the best 21st century Star Wars movie and maybe on the top 2 of the whole franchise. And I consider both Episodes 7 and 8 and Rogue One to be good movies (even though I think those movies are not that special).

This kind of meme makes me wonder if I’m even a gamer

Is this the actual state of videogame culture, are voice acting and storyline really core values

Only two aspects that got anything to do with gameplay and even then not every game is an action game

Anyway answer is Hades, oh Kid Icarus Uprising too ofc

Also the sandwich looks disgusting, wouldn’t eat even if I’m starving

It’s Yakuza 0

The problem is that just deciding the criteria to consider is already a biased/subjective process. The meme automatically excludes most of puzzle games, though some Puyo Puyo ones do have storylines and voice acting xD, also visual novels due to the action criteria

Well I finished Reggie’s book. I think it’s worth reading, provided you know going in that it’s very self-congratulatory. It feels like part memoir, part résumé.

this genre is only cool if it isn't an autobiography. jeff porcaro's posthumous biography is just everyone in LA talking about how incredible he was

I think the games industry would absolutely benefit from some non-auto biographical books. I think the problem is that a lot of video game employees (and especially Nintendo employees) are sworn to corporate secrecy. I think we’ll probably never get a Nintendo tell-all. What is Miyamoto REALLY like? We may never know.

Though Reggie’s book does contain one neat tidbit about Miyamoto I didn’t know: dude doesn’t drink alcohol.

you didn't know the story? when miyamoto turned 40 he quit smoking, drinking, gambling, and all other "adult vices"
Damn, I'm not 40 yet and I'm already 2/3 of the way there!

Look out videogames, I'm making the next Mario.

Edit: presenting, the Litigious Adventures of Litigator

Now he is only into “youth vices.” He loves soda, pop rocks, TPing houses on Halloween, and riding his bike without a helmet with Tezuka riding on his pegs (also no helmet)

genuinely didn’t know! Though To be honest this makes me think two things: 1) what happened to cause him to want to quit those things all at once and 2) man I bet 39 year old Miyamoto was really cool

it finally happened, gang, I had a dream I was watching the June direct under bizarre circumstances!

Most of it was obscured but I can tell you these juicy details:
  • Some sort of Animal Crossing and/or Yoshi plot-heavy fishing game including a godhead whale island was leaked — but I don’t think it was in the direct (or I wasn’t able to see it)
  • Splatoon 3 has anti-grav like Mario Kart 8, underwater exploration, and you can throw “squarties (squid parties)” by collecting tuna cans, sushi, and decorations to eat together (which somehow played like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater)
  • There was something called Fzzafgrllt V’e that looked like the next game after “BALDO THE GUARDIAN OWLS” — the art style had matured slightly, but all the characters were made taller only by having much longer legs. Proportion was very, very wrong.
  • Neon White was bought out by a literal white monolith and the only change was that it had edited itself into the background of the game.
  • Something called “Terror United” was shadowdropped, which seemed to be a simulation of operating DOS games on an old computer, but as a virus took it over and you had to use ancient internet explorer to interact with Y2K sonic fanart forums to fix the virus before it infected you
  • New Klonoa. it was literally called New Klonoa like a damn New Coke joke.
  • Bayonetta 3 release date (didn’t catch it), first sequence of the game shown — literally a mine kart level a la Donkey Kong Country but in 3D through snake ribs with a funky “misc purple and beige magic” environment
  • no silksong
And here’s the big one:

The camera pans over Hyrule field, castle floating in the background as the Winds of Malice whistle by. a desiccated guardian begins flashing and beeping out a message like a distress signal, to something we can’t know, or perhaps a distant time. we hear a whistle in the distance…

HYRULE WARRIORS: FATED DAWN

appears on the screen. “Fated Dawn” is in old glowing blue-green text, like the arm. It looks like a burn, kind of.

The camera carries on. as we see several more guardian husks, they begin to sink into the earth. A new title flashes:

HYRULE HOPES

No information on this one is given.

The camera finally lands to show the castle from a mid low angle. It’s beautiful. The shot stays still.

Everyone assumes it’s over and can’t believe they announced two side projects instead of the game’s name. BUT THEN…

The name is revealed. I’m no longer looking at one of the many screens in the weird round hallway I’m in, so I miss it.

But I do turn around in time to see the longest chain sword I have ever seen whip into the castle, the camera quick-turn to haggard skyLink flying towards the castle with it (a la hookshot), hopping up, doing a slow-mo funky arm pull, and ripping a psychic hole in it so that the momentum carries him through.

and then I realize I’m in some sort of exhibit or E3 or VR experience to see the inside of the castle!! with much more information!!

Inside the castle are various setups by various Hylia-adjacent cultures. 18 swords line the walls in colored flame and need to be “purified”. The inside of the castle is broken chunks held aloft, including a library chunk you can skydive down to. There was a tall statue with hinox guts in a bowl on its head. Rough maps were on a couple walls. The whole thing felt like combination Hyrule Castle, Mario 64 Peach’s Castle, Crumbling Farum Azula, and Twilight Princess sky temple. Oh! There was definitely an Ooccoo but it was running and hiding, didn’t want to be seen!

also it really may have been a VR exhibit / representation because a bunch of other people were there doing the skydiving to the library island — including several animal crossing villagers and a couple of YOUR avatars given life. (lookin’ at you, @Derachi penguin)

also many of the people there weren’t 100% sure if the skydiving was supposed to be that way and thought they would die. Maybe it was the real world? idk it was a fucking weird-ass dream.

you’re welcome

It’s so bizarre to me but it’s given me a lot to laugh about

As a swede i've laughed out loud from the trending twitter several times today regarding food and Swedes discourse.
This absolutely happened at a few friends places growing up, always only with the wealthy ones for whatever reason, but among us poor kids there was always food for friends.

I do have absolute crime to tell though, in high school I had this super wealthy friend who's family owned several golf courses and a car glass company.. they lived at a mansion and my friend his own house on the property which was a massive villa where we had monthly LAN parties. We had to pay his parents for breakfast the following day

Rich people...

I don't blame Miyamoto for giving up all those adult vices. I'm 33 and I gave up most of those years ago. You eventually reach a point where you realize "Wait, a minute. I feel better when I'm not doing this stuff. Maybe I should stop".

I enjoyed binge drinking for maybe a half a decade and then yeah it just made me queasy to even think about.

Yeah. Binge drinking is so lame.

But sipping a nice rum? Or a fine whisky? Or maybe a quality IPA? That's where the good stuff is. Pair the IPA with a lovely curry, the whisky with a haggis and tatties dish and the rum with writing some trashy fanfic.

I've stayed away from all that stuff but now that I'm almost 40 I think I might be about ready to start.

Maybe I'll pull a Reverse-Miyamoto

Okay seriously though, "Winds of Malice" would be one of the best fake BotW2 titles I've seen (I know that's not what you were talking about but still).

@Sadist i am taking a break from my collecting hobby as well as my autographs and what not in general to focus on saving more. No transformers, figures, Funko pops, etc.

I will try and get more Ds and psp games here and there but sparingly

I want to save as much as I can. I’m trying to change my spending habits some as well.

As a PhD candidate (in my mid-20s) I used to work and volunteer 50 to 60 hours a week and still go out drinking 2 to 4 times a week. I don't know how I managed that; no wonder I have a chronic illness in my early 30s.**

**addendum: my current illness is not caused by lifestyle choices in my early 20s but is in fact genetic

Sorry have been absent the past couple days. Had a wedding reception Saturday and found out yesterday morning that my aunt doesn’t have much longer with us. Plus exhausted from the workweek. So has been hectic and a mix of emotions the past couple days.
