So how is this game. Feels like it came and went. And I Don’t think it was a Elden ring thing. The original had a long discussion even with BOTW.

Might just be because it’s a sequel. The element of surprise is gone which matters a lot in talks.

I should play the first. Got it for 5 bucks with all the DLC lol

I've been playing it a lot recently, it's.. alright. It has ups and downs.

+
The world is drop-dead gorgeous and feels fun to explore, especially the Cauldrons.
Traversal is nimble and effortless thanks to the focus climbing, the glider and the grapple beam.
Combat is a ton of fun and requires precision and patience.

-
Story is somewhat boring, and requires you to have played all of ZD.
Characters feels flat and dull, except for maybe Erend.
Aloy talks all the time and basically plays the game for you.

I love the new season of Stranger Things, but holy shit they gotta start killing people off because this cast is way too big. Big characters in season 4 just off the top of my head:
  1. Eleven
  2. Max
  3. Hopper
  4. Joyce
  5. Murray
  6. Mike
  7. Steve
  8. Dustin
  9. Lucas
  10. Will
  11. Nancy
  12. Jonathan
  13. Robyn
  14. Vecna
  15. Argyle (the stoner)
  16. Eddie
  17. Hoppers friend in Russia (not sure of the name)
  18. Brenner
  19. Owen
  20. The new jock/bully character who's very annoying

That's twenty freaking characters that have substantial screentime. I'm not even counting side characters who appear for an episode or two. Jesus.

I’m really missing Xenoblade X right now. I could hook up my Wii U to play it again but I absolutely do not have time to squeeze it between DE and 2+Torna before 3 comes out

Finished Kirby 64, the entire final sequence is dope and has awesome music.

Although the game’s charming I feel it’s definitely worse than Triple Deluxe and Robobot, since both of them have more interesting abilities bosses and level design. The ability combo system is really cool tho.

Yall ever have that thing happen where you spend a year pouring blood, sweat, and tears into rebuilding a car, sell it, then a few years later you find your actual car online (plate matching and all) but the new owner has twincharged it and now it makes over 1100 horsepower? That's weird when that happens, huh?

Actually no, I drive my cars until they die. So never sold one 🤪

My wife is from rural USA so she knows cars a lot better than I do, and thus gets to do all the car stuff. Which allows me to keep up my image as a snobby inner city European who doesn't know what a car is, and I love her for it.

Can I finish my second Black Eagles playthrough and do a Blue Lions one before Three Hopes hits? Or will I get distracted by a different game again?

I still can't decide whether or not I'll buy Three Hopes.
On the one hand, it's the Three Houses' cast and they seem to have integrated a lot of 3H mechanics into the game.
But on the other hand, I'm worried about how they'll handle the story after Age of Calamity. Although Three Hopes is a reimagining of the original story, I'm not sure they'll deliver anything half as good as what we had with Three Houses.

To be fair in this case it’ll likely be the same writing team as both were developed at KT. Plus wasn’t Persona 5 Strikers received well? Not to mention we do have the 3 separate timelines/endings thing depending on which house you choose mechanic confirmed back so you’ve got 3 chances.

I mean I’m in and I didn’t play 3 houses XD

Oh shit, I missed high ground talk!

Little late to the discussion, but I totally agree that it works wonders as a plot point to demonstrate Anakin's arrogance.

See I always thought it was to show that Anakin's hubris got the best of him. Obi-Wan said not to try it, he tried it, and he just didn't get quite high enough. Anakin was undone by his arrogance, which is exactly what three whole films have been building up to.

No, it doesn't hold up if you see all the Force jumpery that had been going on prior, but as a story beat it's dead-on. Yes, that explanation is just "because plot," but it wouldn't be the first time Lucas' stories because-plot'ed all over the place.

It shows Anakin's arrogance but it also show's Obi-Wan's. Based on what was happening throughout the whole fight, there was no reason for Obi-Wan to believe that it was over and that he had one right then and there.

Again, this could have been resolved if the script just had Obi-Wan injure Anakin just prior to that scene. They are evenly matched the entire time and Lucas didn't give Obi-Wan a plausible explanation as to why the balance swung in his favor.

I may be a bit pessimistic when it comes to Musou games, Age of Calamity disappointed me a bit. I just hope they had the budget to make a good story and great variety of maps.

Good morning all. It's a bad day health wise, so my carefully laid plans to go to a museum downtown are shot, but I'll find things I enjoy and potter about the apartment.

How we all doing?

That's some serious yinning and yanging. I love it.

Shouldn't have tried posting. It was over, Irene. We already had the high ground talk

What an absolute embarrassment the Monaco Grand Prix has been. Apparently race cars don’t work in the rain!
* laughs in drift *

Most of Age of Calamity’s story issues can be traced back to them wanting to make both a prequel to BotW but also a fanservice-laden game that lets you play as all of the characters and doesn’t really affect BotW (or its sequel). I’ve written down my thoughts on it before but I think it mostly succeeds at this balancing act. But it’s also no surprise that some people came away disappointed depending on how they approached it. Three Hopes should hopefully not have those restrictions.

We could be less than a month away from Nintendo finally confirming Breath of the Darkness as the title and you’re arguing about which Star Trek movie had the best Jedi battles. Think about that. Or don’t. I’m not your dad.

You see, I think you put more effort into thinking about it than George Lucas did. He probably just needed a way to end the battle so he had Obi-Wan get on the high ground because it's usually the better position to be in during the battle. I doubt he was trying to call back to the Darth Maul fight. The reason why the scene is ridiculous because you just spent the last 20 minutes watching the both of them jump really high place to place.
Also because of Obi’s surgeon-like precision in cutting off three of Anakin’s limbs with one swipe.

Also, I hate this movie. Sorry!

Hopefully you’ll find something to enjoy.

I’m alright, sinking yet another day into GBG, really on a roll. No comments yet on Reddit about my latest game, but the community is pretty much dead :/

To be honest this is the first time I have seen people complain about AoC, I thought it was quite well-liked outside of performance issues?
The story was very mixed. The demo actually put me off from buying it.

It was sold as a prequel. But it’s really not a prequel. Which is a huge shame cause the direction they went had less potential then doing a serious prequel.

I loved AoC. A one to one prequel would've been boring, imo.

My question is. How will AoC will be tied to the second? Or how will they follow up the story? A new line of HW or a new main line game?.

I do wonder how the Age of Calamity DLC did.

Never saw anyone talk about it.

I’m interested to see Three Hopes reception and DLC as well. It seems it’s getting much better reception since it’s reveal back in February. Think it can actually hit 1.5 to 2 million. It’ll be tough, but a great success to Three Houses/Three Hopes before it’s sign off.

It’s doing 3 different story lines so the player inclusion stuff is less restricted. They introduced a new character to allow for greater divergences too. Unlike AOC there’s no timeline issues to work around. Only question is will they allow a golden route this time. And will they let us kill Byleth.

I’m pretty hype

I think there are a subset of people who expected something quite different to what they actually got, plotwise - not unreasonably so, given the reveal - and therefore it didn't gel with them.

Personally I really enjoyed it. It's nothing special, but I like how they adapted the BotW mechanics into the musou framework and I liked the focus on Zelda as a character; and enjoyed the varying movesets in the game.
Hopefully you’ll find something to enjoy.

That's a shame; but keep trucking with it!

People would THRIVE if the game had an online infrastructure just as, or better than, Mario Maker. It’s such a cool little game with more potential than one might think.

Besides some complaints about the story I think it's generally pretty well received.

And like others have said, Three Hopes being under the same company means they might be able to grab some of the Three Houses writing team, which would be pretty neat, so story might end up less of an issue this time around

First time I come across this montage and my mind is blown... Seriously, this is great editing

Exhausted from a big day in the sun yesterday holding 50 lbs of baby and baby gear, now have another day of baby carrying and a wedding later.

That's what killed it for me. If it had been marketed as a "fanservice-y musou romp through the events 100 years before BOTW that will mess with the timeline and get wacky but let you have fun with lots of characters, and it'll change things, not be serious and mostly just be a fun time" kinda thing, then I wouldn't have minded (because I probably wouldn't have bought it, lol).

Instead, they kept a lot of the wackier fanservice-y stuff a secret, and so those of us that REALLY wanted a deeply tragic, depressing, let's-watch-everyone-die-as-everything-fails-and-the-world-starts-going-to-shit story were deeply disappointed. We'd still get that glorious scene of Zelda awakening her powers and then there's a small sliver of hope as the game ends and leads into BOTW-proper, too.

I'm still a little annoyed at what could have been, but I'm mostly over it now. I don't fault the game for what it is, it's just not at all what I wanted.

Honestly, while a prequel would have been cool, I think it would’ve been a significantly smaller game. I’m glad we got what we got instead.

Tbh, a Musou like what we initially expected would have been kinda shit. Should have been a "proper" action RPG if they wanted to do a story like that 🤷‍♂️

You're probably right. The musou-style of mowing down hordes of enemies and feeling like a god doesn't mesh too well with colossal failure, death, and tragedy.
