I am so bad at checking my carry out orders. I went back to the restaurant twice tonight cause they kept forgetting shit. And I didn't look well enough.

Ended up jinxing myself and gotten a headache this afternoon though it’s almost gone. At least they’re not as frequent as before.

No origami king for me this evening. Maybe tomorrow

People: man the mario and luigi games were well written!

the mario and luigi games: WE R TEH SHROOB ALLIES, WE ROXOR U AND THEN ROFL THEN U AM CRY.

Dinner turned out well. One of the days where being alone feels like deliberate solitude and not isolation.

Wine and Schitt's Creek to accompany it. Woop woop.

I think my 2017 Macbook Air is on its way out. I keep missing more and more letters when typing, something that never happens on my work device.
That sucks 😕 if you're thinking about getting a new one, you should buy the M1 Macbook air while you can; the rumored design for the new Macbook Air is awful, unless you like a white keyboard and white screen boarders.

I'm quite happy with mine (i was using a gaming laptop from 2017) and the battery life on this thing is amazing.

Playing Harvest Moon on the snes and lmao, what is up with the horribly out of tune notes in the main town? I thought it was something wrong with my sd2snes but that’s just how it sounds apparently?

So sometimes some random interesting work-in-progress game gifs show up

My most anticipated one is a game called Fermata on the Pithos. Looks like it was inspired by Mega Man Legends but it has more freedom of movement, including flying

(No platforms or release dates announced AFAIK)

These clips are a bit old and it went silent for a while, but recently the dev kyu_fu shared more footage on the "birdsite" so the project is not dead

Mass Effect remaster still features glitches, it seems. Squadmates vanished when I got to an action sequence and had to do it solo. Thanks, losers.

Just had a wine and game night with my partner, now it's time for JIMMY JOOOOOOOHNS
What did you play? My son got so into Mario Kart he made us do a course draft, so we had all the courses planned out for our game time. It’s been 65 and sunny here, which is perfect so most of the weekend will be spent outside.

Just started Songs of Conquest tonight and played through the first campaign map in about an hour. Game is legit.

Very interesting what they're doing with this. So far there's some clear cherry picking from the various heroes games in terms of mechanics. Like the hero growth seems to be more involved than the early games in the series (I think it got a lot more complex in the Ubiverse) and there's also the turn order display at the bottom like in Heroes V. But then we get these glorious hexes in the combat like in 2 and 3 (see spoiler) which were absent from later games because reasons.

However! They're also doing their own thing like army composition feeding into the magic system (each unit stack generates different colors of mana and you have a finite number of slots for unit stacks) so the combat plays out like the standard HoMM tactics stuff but the magic layer is more akin to a CCG (ie. MtG / Hearthstone) now. That they're also doing things like capping the number of units in a stack makes me think they're very aware of how the original NWC design encouraged some really weird player behavior like putting all your troops in one hero and having the rest of your heroes do nothing more than ferry units to the front lines. And we have multiple levels of elevation and destructible obstacles on the battlefied and that just feels so so much like something we would've seen in Heroes IV if it had been a direct contination of the lineage instead of a complete rewrite for some reason.

The writing so far is pretty standard fantasy stuff, maybe a little more Game of Thrones and po-faced than NWC's style which was definitely standard fantasy but also a little less serious or downright goofy at times.

I don't think this is going to replace Heroes 2/3/5 for the grognards but it is a fascinating alternative and likely will become a very worthy entry in the genre. I'm absolutely happy for this team and giddy to see where this game goes with the rest of the Early Access period and beyond.

Unfortunately right now this isn't on Switch. It's available for PC/Mac on Steam/GOG (not sure about EGS) for $30 and it's largely content complete as best I can tell as far as the single player is concerned. Online multiplayer might be a different story but online TBS seems like a good exercise in frustration unless you can play asynchronously.

And if you haven't played a Heroes of Might & Magic game before, do yourself a favor and drop $10 on GOG for one of the first four games.

Running out of things to do on this Saturday. I’m down to only two choices:

-Play a vidya game
-Do literally anything else

Oh that's awesome. That sounds like such a fun time!
We played a board game we just got called Horrified, which turned out to be a blast. Made me think of Zombies Ate My Neighbors + X-Files.

That’s great. Been playing a lot of Machi Koro since that’s perfect for my son’s age. Will be excited when he can get into a few more advanced things as he gets older. I will have to check that game out since both of those things are in my wheelhouse.

The era of NWC homage indie games is upon us, rejoice.

Decided to make a fresh cocktail. Thai basil Cucumber Lime Gin Fizz.

Add the basil, cucumber and sugar (preferably simple but I didn’t have any made)

Muddle until sugar dissolved

Add lime juice and gin (or spirit of choice)

Top with crushed ice and then club soda or seltzer (get a good brand like Q or Fever Tree).

Garnish to make it look pretty.

Played some more XenoblaDE and Dunban’s finally over here. Gonna have to figure out how to juggle 4 party members now.

I recommend switching off Shulk as the lead for a while. There's definitely times where you'll need to play as Shulk since the AI for him isn't the best but while you're out and exploring, you should swap him with other party members.

Catching up on the Aus election and so happy my state, which has historically always leaned right, put in votes for the environmental party and more left-leaning candidates. Us Queenslanders are slowly shedding our bogan reputation.

This sounds glorious. I'll hopefully get around to watching it this week; there's a really good cinema with a bar where I am but it's awkward to get to by public transport (can't drive with my condition wahey), so I'll probably go to a cinema downtown on an easier bus route. Might get round to watching Dr Strange on IMAX at some point too.
I hope you get the chance to see it; it was fantastic, one of the coolest films I've seen recently!

I watched Phone Booth on HBO Max.

Fantastic performance by Colin Ferrell. Especially the scene where his character opens up to the crowd. Overall enjoyable film, tho I feel the premise could’ve had better potential if the shooter had different motives. And the rather distracting poor CG, but that’s a nitpick really. Solid Film by Joel Schumacher

Try playing as some other characters and making teams based on that. Switch characters whenever you get bored.

I'm not sure he's the BEST character in the game, but he's probably my favorite. He's a blast to play and/or to make into an evasion tank, and Blossom Dance as the final piece of a chain attack does A TON of damage

Continuing my .hack// adventures and ugh. Infection is kicking me hard. I was just levelling up enough for this boss, then the next part of the story wants me to go inside a dungeon ALONE, which means more grinding I guess. And grinding is terribly unbalanced. As soon as you're over a certain level threshold, the amount of EXP you gain from an enemy decreases drastically.

I tried 2 hours of G.U Last Recode, and I really wish that game was better than Infection. It's infinitely more playable than the PS2 games but it completely lacks the soul and mystery that makes me come back to Infection.

Gonna watch the anime soon too. I find the franchise itself to be very captivating.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the rumoured redesign of the Air either but I want an M2 chip so... choices choices...

The secret is that Sharla sucks, but I don't think the tanks are up to snuff when you first get Dunban in order for you to forgo a healer (plus I was bad enough at XCDE that I never really could manage without a healer)

As with every PC game that looks interesting :

the urge of buying it right now vs. patiently waiting for the Switch version

Im playing Odyssey for the first time and i just got to the Metro Kingdom. While i really dont like this mix of realistic and cartoony artstyles (i understand it was the intention, doesnt makes me appreciate it more tho) i absolutely love the realistic look of this.

The skyscrapers in the background look so good, the effects of the rain in the ground, its all lovely!

Ok but realistic cinematic game by the mario team and koizumi, when?

Just me chiming in again to say I’m still loving Xenoblade. I hope you all are doing well this weekend!

I hope we in the UK can join you in a few years...

...not looking likely, though. And it's not like Kier Starmer would do anything but provide a brief Tory respite..

Coffee Stain doesn't have a very good history with console, wherever it's their own games (Sanctum, Goat Simulator, Satisfactory) or published games (Valheim, Midnight Ghost Hunt, Songs of Conquest, Deep Rock Galactic) so don't count on it.

Their PR guys said flat out in a a stream 1-2 years ago that they don't care about consoles.

The most notable exception is pretty much Huntdown which is on PC, consoles and mobile, but it's a sidescroller shooter, so quite different from their usuall stuff. Even their most recent console release, Deep Rock, lags a lot behind PC with updates.

This game specifically I'm not sure how you adapt it to console easily. I know it's possible since there was a GBC port of HoMM 2 and PS2 got a re-imagining of King's Bounty, but the obvious choice of making everything direct input vs the immediacy of the mouse seems like it would be incredibly tedious. Maybe with the Switch you'd also have the touch screen as an option?
