I'm going full weeb and getting ramen today AMA

That sound you hear is all the Xenoblade and Fire Emblem fans wallets crying

I'm pretty sure you're right, but that's kinda the point. Can the games still be profitable locked to a single console with a late PC port?
Yeah I don’t think a Square Enix buyout is happening to be clear. As others mentioned above, they have their hands in much more than just video games. Sony does too, but it just seems like a weird fit outside of how much Sony cares about locking down Final Fantasy which they already have deals in place for.

You can tell the media, youtubers, etc. are talking out of the side where the sun doesn't shine about SE when the only properties they mention are FF and KH. If SE made focused on these 2 franchises it would have gone bankrupt given the time between releases. And you can 100% bet that, if acquired, the smaller games are gonna disappear or frankly flop.

My senior dog is not doing so well folks. He keeps hurting his legs trying to climb up to my 1 year old's high chair. Even after we clean it he thinks there's food there, so I don't know what to do. He keeps whining throughout the night because his legs are hurting so badly. He can barely walk, and he hates going on walks now.

This sucks.

I'm so sorry :-( I hope he can pull through this.

The pizza hut I worked at in high school has a chicken club pizza that used a mayonnaise sauce. It was actually quite good.

Sorry to hear this happening, for both you and your dog. It's never easy seeing a pet go through declining health.

I had a dream that the Mario movie trailer was released, and every character had freckles. Mario, Peach, even Bowser somehow had freckles.

Oh no. 😔 Sorry to hear, it's always awful when dogs are in pain and you can't do anything about it

Interesting interview with Reggie. All part of his "book tour" but there are some cool behind-the-scenes Nintendo stories. Some of them may have already been common knowledge though.

I wonder how history would be different if Nintendo sold Wii Sports as a $40 seperate purchase. They definitely wouldn't be guaranteed a massive success like they are with the similarly content-poor Switch Ports, but I doubt they'd be hurt 'that' much either.

Thanks, all. We're taking him to the vet today, maybe they can prescribe him something a bit stronger than the gabapentin that doesn't seem to be doing much for him at the moment.

He's 14, and he's had a great life so far. I think we're getting pretty close to the end but we'll see what they say.

Probably worth looking at sales in Japan where it wasn't a pack-in?

He advocated. There's no evidence it was his idea in the first place. Still don't get the fandism about Reggie. He did marketing and obviously connected to a lot of video gamers. But more then that? He was still active when the Wii U launched. Would be interesting to find out what he advocated back then :D

This is really touching, am sure he would be better. Wishing him the best.

Reggie advocated for Nintendo fans to stop asking him about Mother 3

Reggie opening his book about Iwata on when he last saw him, on how his office looked, how he showed him prototype of the Switch and said that "Reggie this device will be critical for future of Nintendo". It's really touching.

Selling off incredibly valuable IPs at a clearance rack rate and devaluating your company significantly before selling off the rest of your company to Sony a day later is so stupid that it makes me think it’s 100% true because this is Square we are talking about.

Rumours are all wrong.

Sony is looking to buy some squares, as in nerds, so that they can better understand the hard-core super nerd weeb market that Nintendo and Square Enix cater to with JRPGs and visual novels.
Or maybe Squares the crisps. They still around?

Very sorry to hear this. Crossing my fingers that you can get your dog the help he needs and that his remaining time can be as painless as possible.

To be clear, I Yeah’d! This in a “man I’m sorry, that really sucks” way. Having a pet getting old is one of the worst feelings. Like you said, you know they’ve had a long good life and all, but that doesn’t make it any easier.

I am on strike for the first time in my life.

It's not as exciting as I thought it would be, but at least we've got some demonstrations planned and did my enforcer duty today. (We have 100% union staff so no one actually tried to come to work).

Ugh feeling like crap. Should see if I can just get sucked into a low input game like Digimon cyberslueth or Ryza. Haven’t gotten in some focused gaming for a bit

Debunked by the fact that I'm still unemployed

Please Nintendo save Team Asano and DQ from this bullshit
Even that is not a believable rumor. I don't think they could find a buyer that would leave the company intact the way it is right now. They have very diverse divisions. Super rich ones like Tencent might be the only option.

Not just that, there would be much more than that to be saved. I don't wanna imagine all those Taito franchises rotting in the corner along with other Sony legacy names. Bubble Bobble, Bust-a-move, Space Invaders, awful lot of stuff to be disappear completely.

Also Team Asano and Team DQ would not be the only divisions that Nintendo would save: Team Kawazu (SaGa), Team Mana, Remaster Team, Tokyo RPG Factory they all would have no future under Sony. Maybe even Nomura himself too, he's been assisting Xenoblade designs for Monolith. In fact, main FF teams might be the only ones Sony would end up with after the exodus.
I was about to bring up Team SaGa and Team Mana myself; there's no way they would survive under Sony management and I could definitely see them jumping ship along with Team Asano and Team DQ in a hypothetical Sony acquisition.
If Sony buys Square, does that mean they'll rerelease games that people actually like instead of every SaGa game and warped versions of classic Final Fantasy?
I could see Sony putting classic SE titles on their new PS+ subscription, but that's about it. Everything new from then on would be Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

Also SaGa is great, we wouldn't be seeing so many remasters of older entries if people didn't like the series.

Can Enix sell Square and just keep Enix? Saying this as a DQ fan lol

But seriously this would be terrible news. Not so much FF as that series left be behind after 12, but all the mid tier games I love.

Also on another note, does SE actually own DQ? I always assumed the DQ team owned all the rights and Enix was just the publisher?

Speaking of SaGa, we'll definitely get some news this year about the three games that Kawazu teased. I guess we will get Saga Frontier 2 HD, Saga Unlimited Remake and Romancing Saga 4 in the coming years.

You do realize the SaGa games are actually popular outside of the West? And have a growing fan base here? Right?
Also SaGa is great, we wouldn't be seeing so many remasters of older entries if people didn't like the series.

I'm being sarcastic. I know it has a fanbase! It's just not on the level of something like Chrono Trigger which is MIA on most platforms.

They could but nowadays even if there is still a difference between how teams work all is mixed so it would be really hard to do so, it's like if Bamco had to sell Namco when both Bandai/Namco stuff is done by BNS.

DQ is a rights fuckery to be honest, the best way to explain the situation it's by dividing DQ rights in five parts : music, designs, games themselves, trademark and publishing rights.
Designs are owned by Akira Toriyama company Bird Studio
Everything related to DQ that isn't music/designs Armor Project (Horii company)
Music was owned by Koichi Sugiyama I guess now it's owned by his family
(Square) Enix only owns the trademark (so the name Dragon Quest) and it has an exclusive publishing contract with Armor Project.

(this gets even more complex when you consider a lot of games were done by companies outside of Enix/SE so they may have some rights related to the particular games they worked with)

Would Square being bought out allow for a contract revision since it would change the initial deal?

Company that buys Square retains the exclusivity if it follows the same logic that Enix into SE did. But this is a private contract that has never been public so we don't know if there is any clause that could cause a revision or what would happen if a non-SE company buys the rights and to be fair we don't know even if that's possible there may even be a clause that gives SE rights to buy DQ rights over other parties.

Supreme court leak has me feeling super disappointed. I've always done my part (what I can do at least i.e. voting, donating, etc.) but I guess it was not enough. And I fear overturning Roe v Wade is just the beginning.

But beforehand, Enix had full publishing rights when they brought Square into the fold and saved them from going up in flames, so that is why I am curious. DQ is big in Japan only really, and not sure how that goes with modern Sony's philosophy these days

Gonna try to offset my doomposting from last night (hint: turn volume on):

Sony is still really focused on Japan , it's only SIE that's focused on the West, so maybe it could fit better in other branches like Aniplex (they already publish games in Japan). DQ in Japan it's like Pokemon worldwide a lot more than console videogames it's a multimedia franchise with it's own anime, merch, theme park, restaurants, cafes and really big mobile games like DQ Walk, so it could fit well with Aniplex. But as I said it's all we can do it's speculation due to not knowing what are the conditions of the contract between Armor Project (and also Bird Studio) and Square Enix.

CT is supposedly wrapped up in all sorts of rights hell which makes it hard to action anything relating to it

Even as a non-American, what’s going on there right now has me feeling pretty down. I have a hard time seeing things getting better anytime soon in the years ahead.

Double post but F AB

I don’t wanna post the whole article but this quote essentially sums it up
It also stresses that even if shareholders do vote for the proposal, it won't necessarily commit to making the report anyway.
