Planet Robobot badly needs a port off 3DS. It is excellent, up there with Super Star and Forgotten Land as the best of the series. If you want to play at least one or two other games exclusive to the 3DS, it's worth getting a 3DS to play it/them.
I think a Return to Dream Land - Triple Deluxe - Planet Robobot collection is very likely, sooner or later.

I'm very happy to see Robobot getting the recognition it deserves. It got released in 2016, Nintendo's annus horribilis, and for a lot of people, it was just a run-of-the-mill Kirby game. In a way, it's Kirby's Tropical Freeze - the best game in the series that was released at the wrong time.

they've been stealthily having vanpool update a lot of assets from all three games for a while now with super kirby clash and kirby fighters 2. i wouldn't be surprised to see a dream collection 2 pop up with them in it

At the least, the fandom knew what was up from the very beginning. I'd love to see a new Dream Collection for Switch as you describe it. Hell, if they released it this year for the 30th, I'd go wild.

Finally got to sit down with it for an extended period of time today. Finished the last level of World 2, 100%'d World 1 and the entirety of World 3. The game is nothing short of delightful. Bar-none the best Kirby game.

EDIT: Since I’m the most recent post I won’t double post. Just wanted to share some of the OST that really stuck out to me.

I mean come on, this soundtrack is pretty excellent

now that I think about it this would be a very cohesive and reasonable collection, and would be an instant buy holy shit

Those three games could even be called a trilogy if they wanted to go that route

A RTDL/TD/RB collection would be a great value, almost too good to be true. Would snatch it up instantly though.

Just beat the true arena :

HAL once again managed to get away with showing blood like substance in their game lol. Now I wonder how many people will associate the phrase "And here we are!" with being sucked into a black hole after that final boss..

Just beat World 3 and yikes, some of those level missions are ramping up. The World 3 boss is fast, and one of the missions is to beat her without taking damage. Fuck. Also, legit first time I had to remember that I can dodge in this game and actually had to use it for bullet time lol I still got hit twice throughout the fight.

Time to go again.

Also, did the first arena cup.... Time Crash helmet is OP lol

The level 3 boss was one where I saved the "without taking damage" task for later, when I got more OP upgrades.

world 3's boss is actually very predictable (moreso than world 2's boss i think), so the no damage accomplishment is pretty doable once you know how to avoid damage on all the individual attacks

but that's definitely the point where things ramp up

So after assaulting me with bazillions of questions on all things Kirby, my kids have found out that there were Kirby cartoons, and have began watching Kirby right back at ya.

For some reason their absolute favourite character is this guy, and they crack up whenever he appears:

I reached 100% completion the other day (including clearing the target times for every Treasure Road and Tilt-and-Roll Kirby in Extra Hard difficulty, which I don’t think count towards completion percent), and I gotta say, this game is absolutely up there as one of my top Kirby games. It probably has my favorite gameplay of the traditional Kirby games, though I think Planet Robobot narrowly beats it out in terms of story, and it can’t touch Star Allies in terms of co-op and overall content (the Dream Friends are just so good). I loved how HAL perfectly retained the feel of 2D Kirby in 3D, though—but I expect as much from them; I was similarly extremely impressed with how well Return to Dream Land captured the feel of the 2D sprite-based Kirby games (well, specifically Super Star) but with 3D models. And, of course, the bosses were great and the finale was fantastic as usual. I also really like (final boss spoiler) Fecto/Chaos Elfilis; they’re easily my favorite final boss design yet! And there are some very interesting lore implications with this game that I can’t stop speculating about… I only wish there was more of the game to play! And that co-op wasn’t limited to just Bandana Waddle Dee for the second player, though I don’t think the game lends itself as well to co-op as the 2D games anyway so it’s probably just best to think of it as a bonus “assist” mode like in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Odyssey. But yeah, I really hope the game gets some kind of DLC, because I want to spend even more time with it!

I can't remember, but did Gooey get copy abilities like Kirby does?

If so I think they should bring Gooey back(or just bring back the multi-color Kirbys I guess) for the next game so player two can have fun with the copy abilities also. They are just too good in this game that it feels unfair not to share them lol.

Got ‘em. Now that I’m not as salty, I can say that was an amazing final boss. I felt that a little something was missing at the end of the main story in terms of Kirby finales, and this was exactly that.

I’m basically 100% now - just got to grind a bit for a few more figurines & band donations and I’ll be all done. I really, REALLY hope to see some DLC for this someday. There is so much that can still be done with the foundations they have created here, and it’s a world I’d gladly hop back into anytime.

Anyway, I’m going to take my time going through a couple levels to get the coins for the gacha. I’m not quite ready yet to put the game down.

Question about the post-game:

I can now upgrade abilities even further. Got Meta Knight +1 for example. Do we know what the maximum for these is?

For the gun, after +1 I got a +★ which gives it 5 rainbow bars of power. So I think you can just upgrade them until they hit 5 bars, and then one more for the rainbow/full effect.

I just love how casually elegant the level design in this game is.

The way levels are paced and structured, the way secrets and side objectives are interwoven into the fabric of each course, it's honestly 3D Mario levels of effortless brilliance in my opinion. The way it all fits and flows together just feels so graceful and ingenious, it beggars belief that this is their 3D series debut.

I can already tell the game is going to have incredible replay value.

Yeah with some of these power ups and the speed up consumable it’s gonna be really interesting to watch how speed runners tackle this one…

I saw someone beat the world 5 boss in 9 seconds and it suddenly made me wonder the same thing.

Can’t wait to see the advanced tricks to this game.

Truly the best Kirby game yet and a paradigm shift for the series. I almost can’t believe I’m contemplating if Forgotten Lands is a more enjoyable game to me than Elden Ring.

I have to say that for me personally there is massive difference between the worlds on how interesting or beautiful they are. Some are most beautiful and fun worlds I have seen in video games altogether. Then there are, for me personally last few worlds that are more on the "meh" side. They still have enough variation on gameplay and level design to not be bad, but the overall theming is really going ups and downs.
Yeah unfortunately, this is kind of where I'm at?

Like don't get me wrong, the game is great. Just finished it and it's honestly one of the most impressive games on the Switch in my opinion. But it sort of falls into that weird category of a game that doesn't have enough ideas holding it together, while simultaneously also being fairly short. It's an odd combo and one that's really unfortunate. The last two worlds are probably the worst in the game and I really struggle to think of any levels that have the sort of elegant design you saw even as early as the first world (the only one that is comparable in my mind is the first level of world 5). Cool meta-narrative gameplay moments like making a turtle bite down on a pipe, then destroying the pipe to go above the turtle, then using your abilities to crush it's back just isn't really in that last stretch of the game. And if it, it's pretty much just a repeat of stuff you did earlier.

I'd say that out of the six worlds in the game, three or four of them are masterpiece tier stuff. But the other half/final third of the game just isn't up to par. The low amount of copy abilities is really a detriment, but more than that I also got tired of how some upgrades straight up feel worse than prior stages in the copy ability tree. I also really don't like how few mouthful mode captures there are, not only is it repetitive from a gameplay perspective but it starts to get weird when a game that places this much importance on its presentation starts just putting mouthful mode captures in the final world that make no sense being in the level at all.

That being said, even with all of these complaints, I did really enjoy the game. Truthfully I've been kind of down in the dumps lately and its possible that on top of that I'm just having some gaming burn-out, so maybe it's more my fault than anything. The first few worlds in the game made me feel like a kid again, the last couple worlds were just kind of there. As a first Kirby game, I think it was a great and I'm now really interested to go back and play the other games in the series. This game might even have my favorite ending in all of videogames ... the only ending I can think of that is that awesome is maybe the original Mass Effect.

I actually thought world 5 had really strong worldbuilding. It felt like it really embraced the post-apocalyptic vibe more than any of the other worlds, except maybe 1. I agree about the last world though, just felt a like generic "last world in a platformer" kind of thing.

Overall though I felt Robobot used its "theme" better. Robobot's sci-fi theme effortlessly weaves through the level design and aesthetic and part of why I have Robobot at my #2 in the series.

World 5 is really good. It does reuse some ideas but in clever ways, like how the mall is basically a "backrooms" of the mall from earlier in the game and the first part of Moonlight Canyon taking the World 3 dark room concept and upping the ante. The boss is also excellent.

World 6 did feel kind of underwhelming. Still fun because the gameplay is inherently fun, but it's a lava world like your average NSMB game and the concepts don't wow you like the previous areas. They should have just made the
Lab Discovera
into the sixth world instead, it was a cool place and we only got a taste of it.

See, I feel like World 5 did that best by... just copying World 1 with the mall.

I don't think it's as strong as World 4 in terms of embracing the post-apocalyptic theme either, personally. That was the best use of the theme imo. You're basically roaming around frozen London. There's a Breath of the Wild aspect to how World 1 and World 4 embrace the post apocalyptic theme that I feel like World 5 misses, too, where the apocalypse has a duality of being peaceful and serene and contemplative despite being built on presumed tragedy. World 5 has that a bit, too, but its mostly just a depressing desert.

As you get further in the game starts to show some cracks. Like, mouthful mode was a really good idea but you’ve seen all the captures by the middle of world 2, and they don’t really come up with more interesting ways to use them. Just the same types of puzzles and mechanics.

Also I think they made maybe four mini bosses? And just keep re-using them over and over. I don’t think they even add any additional mechanics to the fights.

Still a lovely game but into worlds 4-6 it’s starting to feel like going through the motions.

I wrapped up the post game except for getting all of the figurines. Not really interested in that. The true arena was an incredible finale. I don’t think any Kirby could ever overtake Super Star for me since I have way too much love for that game across countless playthroughs, but Kirby and the Forgotten Land dethroned Air Ride for my second favorite Kirby game ever. It’s just awesome from top to bottom.

Edit: Forgot I had pulled up a bunch of articles to read today so I just mashed A for the gacha to get 100% while I read on my phone. I had 2,000 coins left over so I cut it close.
